DutchGrasstrack
29.09 6PM RZESZOW FINAL 4 LIVE ON EUROSPORT !! ----- The calendar for the European championship for 2013 has been annouced. The speedway championship is taken much more serious next year and they are trying to invite big riders as wildcards. Early reports suggest that Andreas Jonsson and Emil Sayfutdinov will ride next year in this championship. The four finals will also be on Polish TV and also the prize money has been upgraded to 50.000 euro per final. The format remains the same as this year, the top 8 (not sure about the numbers) from this year will automatically qualify for the Finals and the rest will come through via the semi finals and the challenge in Slovakia. f-s-p
HERE The other side of the story is that this new venture by FIM Europe will die up on it's ar'se after year one, since the deal from the promoter for the organising clubs is bollocks. This was a 99% direct quote from a TRC member. EDIT: Added the word organising Edited November 23, 2012 by f-s-p
Humphrey Appleby
Does anyone know what the actual point of the European Championships are? The World Championships are dying on their a**es, and time is being spent on this distraction...

There's already a Junior World Championship that's struggling for riders, is it not? And surely a SGP qualifying competition as well? There's maybe no equivalence of the pairs at world championship level, so it could be seen as a second tier SWC, but a lot of the other competitions replicate what already exists at a world level (although in practice they're really only at European level too). DutchGrasstrack
Looks like the British federation (ACU) doesn't care about the UEM meetings either as there won't be any ACU riders riding in both senior and junior (U21) championships.... Junior: 01.06 - Semifinal 1 (Pila, Poland) Austria - 1, Hungary - 1, Germany - 1, Latvia - 2, Poland - 4, Russia - 1, Slovenia - 1, Ukraine - 2, Croatia - 1, Czech Republic - 2. 08.06 - Semifinal 2 (Malilla, Sweden) Denmark - 6, Norway - 4, Sweden - 6. 16.06 - Semifinal 3 (Macon, France) Germany - 3, Holland - 1, Italy - 2, Latvia - 1, Russia - 1, Romania - 1, Slovenia - 1, France - 2, Croatia - 1, Czech Republic - 3. manchesterpaul
Probably my only off-season post but on the subject of TV coverage it's great to see EUROSPORT giving LIVE coverage to the revamped Speedway European Championship meetings. Nicki Pedersen, Tomasz Gollob, Emil Sayfutdinov and Andreas Jonsson already signed up for the series. http://speedwayeuro.com/index.php Hope not counting chickens before they have hatched mind as maybe we should keep fingers crossed, as 'Eurosport UK' can often differ in it's live broadcasting deals and hopefully they will receive the live transmissions? Part of press release... "One Sport Ltd. as the exclusive organiser of SEC ensures great promotion of the competition, mainly thanks to contract signed with Eurosport, which will be official LIVE broadcaster to 59 countries. DutchGrasstrack
Calendar of the finals: 27/07 Zielona Gora 10/08 Togliatti 14/09 Gorican 29/09 Rzeszow Divisov was asked to also run a final (before they switched to Gorican), but they had to say no because they couldn't affort it. Apperently 'One Sport' wanted 150.000 euros from the club and thats a 'little bit' over their budget (source: http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=cs&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=nl&ie=UTF-8&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.speedwaya-z.cz%2Fview.php%3Fcisloclanku%3D2012122105). ciderman
On a positive note its reported in this weeks Speedway Star that Eurosport will cover the 4 Round Final Series Live, at last a major channel taking interest in the sport to give Sky a run for their money. Would be interesting to see if they would cover the GP's should Sky decline. It has a prize fund of £50,000 It's reported as Nicki states "Wage wise it it's equivalent to a Polish League Match So am I reading correctly that Nicki Pedersen earns 50,000 Euros per Polish League Match! Or is it 12,500 Euros over the four meetings, either way thats good money! No wonder everyone wants to ride in Poland if thats the case! THE DEAN MACHINE
If this series is shown on live tv .has all the top riders and pays big money and the gp is not on tv dosent it devalue the gp somewhat. The general floating fan will think this is the gp. Apart from being world champion why would any rider let alone fan prefer the gp to this series. If its a sucess it will expand to more countrys and surely bsi must be worried about this

Its for each of the 4 meetings. . .
michaelcroucher
Does anyone know what the actual point of the European Championships are? The World Championships are dying on their a**es, and time is being spent on this distraction... Dont know what this guys problem is but most speedway is good. GP are not dying. Last year it was great to see another new SGP champion. It went down to the last 3 riders. The first 7 races with 7 differant GP wins. Also with European speedway you see some riders you would not normaly see.

It's the European Championships of Eastern Europe! Or just the East European Championships... What chance that we are going to see this sport heading the way of Boxing? Boxing has the WBA, WBC, BWO, IBF etc etc Or Wrestling with the WWE and WCW?...Speedway has BSI (of SGP fame) and now One Sport...I wonder how long before riders have to sign "exclusivity deals" with one or the other? Mama
Mureck and Gorican are situated in Eastern Europe? It's not the UEM or One Sport problem that another countries are not interested in organizing European Championships meetings!
