oldtimer
That's because you've pitched it wrongly. I would say its more like 2hrs of socialising with friends and a great way to spend an evening (especially at the Oak Tree with its good food and facilities). I agree Nick it's also about socialising with friends. Speedway folk have a good sense of humour and I have a good laugh and a chat before, during and after racing. However I can go to my local pub and have a good social evening in good facilities, I don't have to pay to park my car, there is no admission charge, I don't need a programme, the menu is free and it's warm. You never stop moaning, if you don’t like it at the speedway then go to the pub then you can moan about the price of your drinks and how much tax the government take out of you for your drink. What you never seem to get through that geriatric skull of yours is that it costs a lot of money to stage a speedway meeting before a wheel gets onto the track and a lot of these costs can never be recouped and what about the costs to the management for rained off meetings, I think that is in the region of £1000 per rain off. So OT it’s time to make your mind up Speedway where you can have a laugh and meet friends or the pub where again you can meet some friends and it could cost you your license or worse still your liver The choice is yours
oldtimer
But no speedway, smell and noise. Unfortunately, unless there is something wrong with my nose, the smell no longer exists. I remember when the methanol smell was very strong, also bikes are a lot less noisy than "the good old days." Which brings me back to my original point, £18-50 for 15 heats? Starshooter says it costs a lot to stage a meeting, and even though, like he says, I am geriatric, I do realise that, which is why the powers that be need to reduce the cost of maintaining a current speedway bike, instead of thinking of ways to make it more expensive for riders. Cheaper equipment, less rider expense, has the knock on effect all the way down the line to cheaper admission. Not knocking Somerset, at least you get top drawer racing, but if the people who run the sport want new people to come to speedway they need to get back to basics. I mentioned in my original post that speedway needs to cut it's cost or improve entertainment, so on the latter point, any ideas? I Agree the Smell and the Noise have Dissapeard, I am Also geriatric in My Views, Speed is not the essance ,Close Racing, Skill and Passing ability ,Should Br Paramount 2 Valve jawa's ,generate Excitement, Forget Laydowns For Domestic Use ,They are are Fine for GP riders who have the money , But for Bread and Butter league racing lets get Back to basics, Sadley No speedway At Newport again But Still a Fan
Willowman
A good show by Josh on Saturday. Roughly finished where we would have expected him to, so a promising start.

oldtimer
No suggestions yet on improving entertainment. I was watching Rugby yesterday and a rousing fanfare played whenever anyone scored. How about this for a 5-1, or even better music during the evening? A good show by Josh on Saturday. Roughly finished where we would have expected him to, so a promising start. Also well done Claus Vissing second in Ben Fund ahead of Hans, a tragedy we couldn't keep him! The fanfare stuff is cringeworthy to say the least, but I hope they sort the music presentation out at Somerset this season as it's been nothing short of awful for the past few seasons. Blaring the boys are back in town and the final countdown just doesn't cut it anymore.

Najjer
Why don't you come up with a suggestion then?? Not a problem - I always use Swindon and formally Reading as their presentation and music choice was superb before they sadly closed. They play modern up to date music from the charts of today, as oppose to the 1970s that actually have something about them and can create a great atmosphere around the track. Obviously there is exceptions to this, but anything would be better than listening to the Beetles in segments in between races all night long. drew2
Plenty of things have been going on at the OTA in the last couple of weeks with the main rhyne behind the terracing and clubhouse being piped, the lights finished on the driveway, main entrance tidied up and the new admission booths being constructed. It will all be looking good for the new season.

Normally stand on home straight banking where you can't hear the music just a tick tick like you are standing next to someone with earphones. Better music and the loudspeaker on judges box turned to the right would be great, so home straight banking customers don't stand in silence.
