Baldy
Was that 3 or 4 votes, depends if the guy with his dog both voted!!!!!!!! Whilst mildly amusing and true. Do other tracks have that many more spectators compared to Stoke?. I hear talk of Dudley having 1500-2000 at home matches which is very good but in comparison with other sports is not much really. What do other tracks get?. In fact what do Stoke get as I'm hopeless at guessing crowds.
ChubbyChesgire
I'd say we get a couple of hundred on a bad night, perhaps a thousand on a good night (not often that many in last two seasons), and double when Dudley visit ? However, I don't know how many would bother to vote on Signal 2 !
Craftman
The rye house home fixture last season must have been no more than 100 . Even with the visit of the mighty Dudley there were no where near 1000 last season .

I think that you may not be far off with your guess, although everyone would say that their crowds at their tracks would be down over the last 10-15 years; or would they?. My mum, who is now 86 remembers crowds of 20 odd thousand at the Sun Street stadium. I'll be happy to remember anything at that age!! I just hope that enough of us; at all tracks; keep going to continue the sport. I was in two minds about this year but expect I will make it again. seanmuffe
STOKE Easy Rider Potters have confirmed that they will have a new regular start time for the 2013 season. The Potters will start at 7pm after a poll on local radio station Signal 2 was over ninety per cent in favour of a change of start time by the clubs supporters. Was that 3 or 4 votes, depends if the guy with his dog both voted!!!!!!!! Nice to see the power of the people has been exercised on Signal 2. Lets all hope this generates the extra crowds needed at the Loomer Road circuit for the Potters to survive. Hopefully there will be no resistance from the local punters as the speedway will be transformed for the better.

21st century heathen
I hear talk of Dudley having 1500-2000 at home... Someone has been exaggerating I think. The crowd has been consistent, within normal slight fluctuations you'd expect throughout a season, since we joined the NL. We were told back at the end of '10 that the average had been just over a thousand. I've no reason to suspect that's changed. Apparently the last season at Dudley Wood saw weekly crowds just over two thousand. There's no way that near that number are packing the short home straight at Monmore each Tuesday. It would be great to have actual numbers published, but I doubt that will ever happen.

In the past few years I've not travelled to too many tracks but having called in at Somerset on way back from hols and seen Wolves and Dudley on occasion it does seem that we need more through the gate at the majority of tracks. ChubbyChesgire
We appear to be against ourselves on 21 April (SGB says this is Buxton away) but not against Dudley at home at all ! That would put a serious dent in our takings ! Thanks Chubby; I thought we are starting at 7.00pm. Shows 7.30pm on the fixtures? Yes assume they haven't got round to correcting that yet ! ChubbyChesgire
That has been noted. Running scared already? Will let you know when I have seen both teams ride ! Edited February 14, 2013 by ChubbyCheshire
21st century heathen
I wouldn't be surprised to see the Stoke boys bang in some results but there's a lot of 'ifs' in the team. A bit too much so for my liking (well, if I were a Stoke fan anyway). I think we have the legs on you over the course of the season. We're going to have two good reserves all season I think/hope. They could prove worth their weight in gold. IOW are still the stand-out team for me though.
ChubbyChesgire
Ifs can work one of two ways ! You're right about reserves, our 2011 team did well because we were strong at reserve.
Main Man
any idea what the 40th anniversary meeting format is ? I hope it will also involve some of the riders who graced the Chesterton Potters colours back in 1973

There are a load of ? about the Stoke team that's for sure but in a good way that has encouraged me for the new season to go along and see how it develops. I remember last year that my concerns were with other riders than Jamie Pickard as he was sure to get better from his 2011 showing. It did not quite happen for him which is a pity with such talent and it's good to see that he still wants to go on. So it shows that all riders can be ? at this stage because we haven't started yet. IOW do look good and I'm sure we have our first match as a challenge against them. Lets get those wheels turning and have a good competitive season for all teams. Swift Saint
Thanks Chubby; I thought we are starting at 7.00pm. Shows 7.30pm on the fixtures? Is definitely 7.00pm a most sensible move in order to give proper attention to the Midland Development League matches. The website will be altered very soon. Well if you've got something to say you might as well make sure you're heard. That has been noted. Running scared already? Only last weekend we agreed a date with Dudley which was subsequently used for the National League Pairs. It was a Sunday so that both teams would be at full strength. We had hoped to put on an outstanding National League fixture that day in warm sunshine for all to enjoy. We are currently looking at new options. We are scared of no-one. Make no mistake about that.
