dukes
In a 1965 article in the Speedway Star it was mentioned that 9 additional track licences were issued, besides the existing British League members. Cowdenbeath, Middlesborough, Sunderland, Ipswich, Rayleigh, Rye House, Weymouth, Gloucester and Kings Lynn. Can anyone shed any light on this name or track location as I have not heard any mention about it previously? Thanks.
Mike.Butler
I remember a Dr Foster was involved at the time but heard it rained too much there to consider it seriously..very wise in light of flooding affecting the city in recent years.. mickthemuppet
It was going to be at the old Gloucester City football ground in Horton Road but to my knowledge no Speedway track was ever built there or and meetings held. It was something to do with the multi track owner Mike Parker
gbr7037
Gloucester Royal Infirmary is very near to Horton Road. If I remember correctly the hospital authorities exprrssed concerns about noise. Saw a few football matches there, I think the basic shape of a track was created, there was plenty of space, but never finished.
