Midland Development League Agm 2012

Recommended Posts

The first AGM for the MDL will take place on Saturday 1st December 2012 where proposed rule changes will be discussed towards next season. It is hoped a senior member of the SCB will attend.

We will also be discussing possible league expansion with an application from the Castleford Kings already on the table, and also what form next years play offs will take.

Details of the final outcome from this meeting will be posted in due time but in the meantime I would like to hear some feedback from the fans about their thoughts on how this years competition has gone and how we could improve it.

Thanks in advance

It s been a great year Kelv . but then I would say that , more time needed between races to give the riders time to make changes and possibly 8 races with a high scorers and low scorers heat

..... more time needed between races.....

Blimey! At a time when we're all cheesed off at the delays between races and that things should be speeded up you say that.

I wish it would be allowed to hold two races after say heat 8 , two after heat 14 and then if a curfew is a problem a result can be reached ..if not carry on after heat 15 to complete the meeting. I have asked several referees what they thought if this and the majority supported it ...but would the tracks ??

These lads ride for nothing , travel hundreds of miles and sometimes end up not even getting on track ....and that is not fair as well as making them wonder if it is all worth it ...then we start to lose young British riders who given full track time and opportunities could well go on to higher things in the sport.

I must admit I wonder sometimes if those who have made it to EL and PL remember when they were starting out as the kids seem to be the poor relations who do not matter. Some tracks need to tidy up their meetings with fewer delays and long drawn out meetings that leave the kids no time to ride.

Without blowing our own trumpet we did 23 races plus 4 demos at Leicester in the MDLRC and despite losing 15 mins we didn't expect or need and doing a final where the lads went out to choose gates --we did all this in 2 hours 15 mins. Doesn't take much to organise but needs the riders to co-operate and a strong influence in the pits to make it work. It can be done --so why isn't it happening ??

Lads who came through the under 15 set-up when I was involved in organising them for races got to know what was expected and the routine and it all ran like clockwork and after a few chase ups were out ready for next heat without being even asked whilst the previous race was going out.

I think promotions/referees are finally getting the message that fans hate long delays between heats, especially when riders return to the pits after travelling about 20 yards after a false start. I don't know about other tracks but the last few meetings at Coventry have been a lot quicker and I understand those at Leicester were speeded up as well, with far less grading of the track than there used to be.

Can't say I would be in favour of holding junior racing between E.L. heats though because it would disrupt the flow of the match. There is also the added possibility of the air fence being damaged, or heaven forbid a young rider having a crash and delaying the main meeting even further. It's just a sad fact that the majority of fans are not that interested in watching the youngsters.

I take your point --but this could happen anyway?? If you were at the Dudley v Mildenhall Play off Final Tuesday at Monmore the fence on turn one looked completely destroyed with air bags punctured and posts knocked out after Tom Perry and Dan Halsey crashed ..but after a bit of work all was back up and working!!

Yes, but that didn't happen in the middle of a Wolverhampton Elite League match, although I know you are referring to National League in your example. If it had I can't see the Wolves fans being very patient waiting for their league match to resume. Sorry but I just don't think it would work holding youngsters races during an E.L. match.

I cant see it ever being allowed during the main match . Just like to add to the poor relation train of thought . I have traveled a 260 mile round trip to have a main team rider waste the remaining time before curfew "testing" Doing wheelies and generally pissing about , and the last time we rode at Coventry witnessed another main team rider harassing the clerk of the course to cancel the last 2 MDL races or hold them up so that he could go out on track to try something , on both occasions the riders who caused or tried to cause the cancellations by their selfishness were of Course arrogant Australians .

On the continent it is quite normal to have junior etc heats throughout the meeting. In Germany they have 125 + 250 cc heats,in Denmark i have seen 50cc + 80cc heats in between and a few weeks back in Pardubice there were some Longtrack trial heats between the 500cc heats.Just needs proper organisation, but then every meeting should be organised properly so that people aren't standing around for 15 minutes waiting.I heard from Dutchgrasstrack that during one meeting recently track prep was going on after every two heats for no good reason other than dragging the meeting out. That isn't acceptable

Me and Laurence were talking about this last night, and you are right. The main team riders sometimes forget that they were once second half riders who were trying to make thier way in the sport and should have a little consideration for the next generation. What I would like to see in the future is a main team rider coming over to the MDL riders after he has finished with his riders and offering the juniors some track advise ect, Just little things like that can go a long way in improving these lads.

Is there anyway that you can run some of the heats before the league meeting. I doubt the will want you to run during the meeting as if there is an accident that damages the fence or need an ambulance it would delay the main meeting. If you could run 4 heats starting at 6pm it would allow plenty of time if there is a delay and then run the final 2 heats after the main program

Both Australians? That only leaves Rory and Aaron as we haven't had any other Aussies riding for us. Could be wrong and no doubt am.
