Fromafar
Whilst I understand that the meeting presentation is important, and in Berwicks case it does need up-dating,IMO what happens during the 15 heats is the most important thing by far on a saturday evening, and that comes down to track prep.I want to come out of Shielfield most saturdays and cant wait to go back having watched a cracking meeting, this season that happened only on a few occasions. If that means I have to put up with not such good presentation then so be it,Id even put up with our centre green presenter wittering on and on and and......... I agree the racing is really the most important factor if you want the fans to return, after all thats what you turning up to watch.
Backless
And there we have it, "put up with" (twice) "not so good" and "whittering on". All the reasons why speedway is dying on its ass, as fewer and fewer people think its a good idea to pay out more each year only to have things that have to be "put up with". What problems does speedway have? It seems perfectly tailored to suit some of its supporters.

Give the riders a good track, have lots of passing and overtaking, and by word of mouth the crowds will come back IMO.Part of the reason some supporters stopped going during 2012 was they were seeing a decent enough meeting for their money. Presentation is important, but surely we dont go to see the presenter, even if that presenter is Dick Barrie.
bigeddiechek
Some might not make much of Teal's suggestions, but they are actually very good - in my opinion - and could sow the seeds of increasing a new support base. One thing not mentioned about the younger part of the population is that they are not as restricted as us older folk. Generally, no family commitments, less financial commitments, although lower income. Good ideas, from a different perspective. Backless makes a point that is the root of the problem: existing attitudes. The amount of times I get bored of listening to folk complaining about track preparation (home and away) is phenomenal. It really is very, very boring: and a bit sad.

No one has suggested that anyone would turn out to listen to the centre green presenter, the music, the pies or anything else other than the racing. The reason for stopping off at a country pub would be a pint and a meal. The preparation of the food needs to be right, but even if it was, people will be discouraged from returning by the stench of festering sewage. The current centre green presenter adds to the evenings entertainment what a rancid, festering latrine brings to a Sunday lunch. In my opinion. There's been a number of good suggestions to freshen up the approach to both Saturday nights and beyond. Hopefully they'll be explored. I have not been to Berwick for a number of years now, watching Speedway in Midlands or South. Can I tell all whittering fans up North it is no better anywhere else. There are very few if any tracks where speedway is presented well away from the racing itself. Speedway needs to look at how the likes of Basketball, Rugby League and even Ice Hockey now has gone into glitz and glamour.
msc1874
Berwick is a lovely town. Great racing track, great pr from owners, best burgers ever! I love my trips to Berwick. How about tie ups with local B and B s to encourage more visiting speedway fans! I think if you can just get the product out there the Berwick experience sells itself. Very family friendly. My only gripe and annoyance dick Barrie. But honestly think the Andersons are great! Butchers in north Berwick is magic!

msc1874
Can see Dick being on the 1st flight out of Argentina to sort the Forum Fannies out. Couple of points. 1. Your post is neither clever, constructive of funny. This is a forum and I take exception to being labelled a fanny by you. 2. The stupid wee smiley icon doesn't make your post light hearted either I actually find it quite offensive. And if you really are looking for forum fannys why not just look at the reflection on your computer screen.....

Which kind of sums Dick on the 'centre green' up, by wanting him replaced by a bloke who's been dead for 10 years! Got to hope Berwick announce their intention to run in 2013, otherwise all the great hype concerning the Ben Fund Bonanza will all be a bit of a waste of time.
