Berwick Survival.

Recommended Posts

Ok fine, two pages on modifying speedway in general. About which there are loads of threads.

Now let's get back to Berwick's survival. At the dance tonight, it couldn't have been emphasised harder that the Bandits need a major sponsor to survive, despite the promotion being so well thought of in the corridors of power that they allocate the BenFund and World Finals to the club.

So how can we (all) help?

Any Berwick fans work in PR who could drum up sponsors on a commission only basis?

Berwicks survival also depends on the fans turning to watch the speedway(if it runs)the average fan can't find a major sponsor, people like the promotion who are business men and the club's PR are more likely to have the contacts regarding this matter. If the club are looking for fans to donate towards a fund to help them out then perhaps they should put something to that effect on the website .I realise that might be a last resort though Fans views for Modifying the sport and providing value for money is just as important an issue,as we need more fans through the turnstiles and entertain them enough to come back.

Possibly asking key questions on Facebook/ twitter would get a better spread of opinion? it's very much a select minority post on here(mostly arses, including me :) ) and it's easy to hide behind a screen name ( not for all, some).

Maybe a 10/20 questionnaire with votes/likes on areas of "where we can improve" (as this can allow logical and realistic options) encourages a wider spread of the fan base? And gets a better general feel rather than a "my opinion is all that matters" as you maybe get on here.

Encouraged on the site, local media you get a decent number and it gives the majority a chance to voice their opinion and feel like they are being heard?

Possibly another for Speedway in general rather than Berwick specific

FWIW, I dont know for sure how often this site is used for a source of is a meeting on/off, it is something Berwick deal with well on their site they are active, but possibly s BSPA encouraged app ( i appreciate I don't know how dear this is to implement) with real time it's on/off updates may work better than the "it's raining in Edinburgh" for a meeting at Newcastle updates you get on here.

Alot only glance/ read through hear rather than post due to the somewhat hostile nature of forums.

I think this is the first time that I have agreed with you WJM.

A short survey would show what most fans think (if they replied), rather than a vociferous dozen or so. The local paper seems to follow Facebook campaigns for news stories, so maybe that is the place to start.

That's because I said I am an arse aye ;)

I am unsure how they do but how about offers in conjunction with merchandise/DVDs?

You attend 5 meetings you get a discount on a jacket/DVD ( just examples) a points rewards scheme as such, win/win for both parties? Maybe, maybe not.

Working in a customer relations environment you do find people in modern society want a reward, again, not brown nosing, but something Berwick have embraced, centre green experience, discounted travel for supporters club etc.

I feel for Berwick, they are doing all they can to maximise the experience for fans and the club, something slot of companies fail to do.

The attending 5 meetings idea wouldnt be much use for you would it.

Breath-taking intellect, once again. You are the comedy gift that just keeps giving :)

Now, back to more serious matters. I actually agree with WJM, the social media sites have far more active people that on here.

There must be a real opportunity to canvas opinion via polls and questionnaires to find out what a much larger number want.

This is full of lunatics, so probably not the best place to get opinion.

:D

No not really, because I have my reasons for not attending, but I am prepared to invest in a season ticket for next year to offer my support (despite not being able to attend on a regular basis) that's my choice, and my reason being is I back the current promotion, and speedway in Berwick.

Not being able to attend regularly due to circumstance, doesn't mean I dont want to see meetings (and the club suceed) another opertunity to promote offers in conjuncition with DVDs, for a win/win?

I appreciate I differ from others, like you. I do "back the club" in the way I can (irespective of owner, be it Wait, Hepburn, Hope or Anderson) and will do my bit to see it succeed.

My suggestion to you would be this, if you have nothing better to say, say nothing, and you rarely have anything better to contribute, so don't.

My suggestions aren't for my own intrest, they are to see Berwick Speedway succeed for your DRK, scoobies, Warm & Cosy, Goldmembers, Penchevs, mythmans, chequredflag B4E, B4L,falkirikbandit, tweedcider, Neil (and a member of track staff who wrote the Last Lough and I wish for the life of me I could mind what he posted as ), spittalbandit and plenty others( many of whom I have had my differences and disagreements with) BUT, decent people who give a sh*t and deserve a club to support, that, as much a the promotion, is reason for adding possibly positive contributions to this thread.

I hold my hands up and admit I argue with people over Berwick, the reason being, is because, they, like me, give a sh*t.

Key questions on other media outlets is a good idea, but I do not see what it will achieve as in IMO most things have been covered regarding key issues already it is just a case of what the various Promotions want to take onboard and what they think is viable and the way forward .A questionaire at every track before the season ended might have been a good idea to get a local perspective though unfortunately that did not happen.I am sure the AGM will be an interesting meeting this year.

A general speedway questionnaire to fans, would have been a good idea, however, there is little to stop individual clubs doing it, this thread suggests Berwick are open to ideas of inprobment, the floor is very much the fans in this instance, we might not be able to improve the sport as a whole, but Berwick fans are being given the chance to improve what affects then which is their Saturday nights entertainment.

If things are as bad as we are told, (and it isn't the first Winter that we have faced "there'll be no Speedway next year unless the Fans put money in), and there is no National sponsor in the wings, As fans our priority must be to generate interest in the mainstream press in the club, and it's precarious position.

But remember the boy who cried Wolf!

As Devils Advocate - if the club folds, what becomes of the fence that was paid for largely by supporters and riders giving their services?

I have posted my last comments on how to inprove the product and our Sat entertainment. What is obvious to me is the complex rules and regulations are dragging the sport down and must be extremely frustrating for forward thinking clubs which I include Berwick in that category. It is also a sport where luck plays a huge part and again Berwick have not had much in that respect.I dont think I am being negitive but there is a lot a hard work to be done to get the crowds back to decent levels at most tracks in the country.

you + screm should go and start your own speedway team you do not support berwick

its time to help I think

Dont know if this would work, but what about a share issue, this was done once before at berrington and it raised some money which helped build the track.

I agree with WJM ordinary fans wont have the contacts to find a sponsor for the team but we can help keep things going if a new main sponsor is found,I like the idea of a reward card getting a stamp on a card everytime you come to the speedway, maybe it could be like coffe shops certain number of stamps = 1 free entry.

Also why not try and get a team of volenteers together and take a stand at all the local shows and promote the Bandits at these.

Just reading the pages of this thread tells me that that is simply not true.

You have a terrific little club and a promoter who has tried very hard to improve the product andattract knew supporters (in my view, more than anyone else in the country).

Perhaps you lot would be better forgetting personal differences (whatever they maybe) and uniting behind your club. Pathetic squabbles over old issues aren't going to help in the slightest.

Well said that man

I know we all have different ideas and views, hell the world would be boring if we didnt, but I think we all agree on ONE thing and that is we all want speedway at Berwick in 2013 and for tears after that.

So come on lets stop this blooming points scoring and get behind the promotion and see if we can save Berwick Bandits,

I would suggest put some dirt on the track and that will make for much better racing once the riders adjust their style and bikes to suit conditions.

Completely agree with you on that one

It's all very well coming up with ideas for reward schemes and the like- but it needs new fans! More people coming through the gates each week- IMO this can only be achieved if the whole presentation of the entertainment at Berwick is changed, given a re vamp, made more appealing to younger people! Who wants to listen to bewitched in 2012?????

This way has to be the ONLY way forward. :t::approve: :approve:

Best wishes to ALL at Berwick Speedway - I was gutted when I heard about your problems - I sincerely hope that everything gets sorted out in a satisafactory manner.
