drew2
Heat 14 was the turning point at the Oak Tree Arena last Friday. A 5-1 from Wrighty and Kyle and we would have been 13 ahead and comfortable but i certainly didn't expect Birks and Toft to do what they did to reduce it back to 5 points. I'm afraid to say the Rebels have missed their number one much more than Scunny did in the Final(ok Howe wasn't at number one tonight but he was when he was injured). So, not only do the Somerset Management/Promotion book two useless guests for the final in Hall and Kerr - they then put one of them out in Heat 15 in a championship winning race - in front of the likes of Davies and Vissing. Absolute ludicrous and a disgrace. I would be disgusted if I were one of the full time Rebels. Well done to Davies and Monberg who can hold their heads up high. Unlucky on Doyle who was simply sensational all year...James Wright no comment. And last of all, well done Scunthorpe who deserved the title after their first leg performance. I would have thought they discussed it and maybe Hall was up for it more than Alex, Claus or Wrighty? Difficult to say whether it was right or wrong as we weren't in the pits when it was decided though. Ok it turned out wrong in the end but i can't believe from Bish and Garry it would have been a decision without major thought.
Tsunami
Congrats to Scunny for winning the PL with their late burst in the season. I can sympathize with their fans and riders, but the Somerset management lost this title for you in a couple of ways. Best club won.
phillwhitewasmad
Well done scunny comming through a tough night Anyone criticising hall wasn't there heat 15 was close and could of gone either way he tried and failed mainly due to the team riding efforts of the scunny

Tsunami
Care to elaborate on which two ways? As others have already said Drew, Gary refused the TR withdrawal offer, and he picked Hall both as a guest and then heat 15.
PremierRebel
Before people make assumptions I think they should think about the reasons behind decisions. Anybody who have spoken to our management team would know they are complete and utter professionals! They did what they thought was best. Congratulations Scunny, We'll be back next year!
manchesterpaul
going by how close it was at the end its a pitty this match was not on sky really great how it went to last heat as a neutral Going by the updates site with 'FTG' tagged on to the majority of heats (including at least 8 of the first 10!), and the possibility of the few changes in position being due to engine failures or falls, i think it would have put newcomers off going to speedway. Great to hear of a good crowd though.

Well done to both teams , 30 nail biting heats and down to a last heat clincher-classic play off again.

Having been to Scunny I agree that FTG there can still be a tremendous race due to the close racing the cicuit produces. eric i
A great fighting display by the 5 Rebels but up against it with two passengers in Hall and Kerr and a Scunthorpe tactical, a rule that makes a mockery of the whole affair. Would it have been different if Wrighty kept still at the tapes? Somersets team managers May and Bishop made two blunders, the first was changing reserves in heat 11 at the Oak Tree and putting Kerr in against the Scunny tactical, and secondly putting Hall in heat 15 tonight. Alex Davies 8 points, Claus Vissing 7 points, so you put in Hall who had only scored 5, unbelievable. Would love to know the reason for this as it defies all common sense, and at the moment I feel very angry. . Well done Scunthorpe. Richard Hall thoroughly deserved his place in heat 15, he was the fastest somerset rider, and was unlucky not to score more points. He was very close to overtaking both Auty and Morris in heat 15, as you would have seen had you been watching. EC Rides Again
Congratulationd to Scunthorpe, commiserationsto Somerset. A big crowd was enthralled more by the drama of the to-and-fro in the scores than by the action on the track. Too many heats were follow-my-leader, but this was a result of the need to virtually re-lay a new track after all the rain. A gamble to put Hall in Heat 15, and it didn't pay off. Do the Rebels wish they could re-think their decision to turn down Rob Godfrey's amnesty on Tacticals offer ?
Lewis
Suprised at the updates comment "FTG", there seemed to be a lot of passing, maybe not as much as normal but there were definitely a few passes from both teams. Somerset put up a great fight. Congratulations Scorps, you did great
frostylion
any half wit having a pop at hall or the rebels management for putting him in heat 15 clearly wasnt there..if u can tell me of a rider who rode his nuts off for a point like he did im all ears well done Scunthorpe
Albert
Well Done Scunny...Fantastic effort all season. Chuffed to bits for all involved. Commisserations to Somerset, that was one hell of a battle you put up. I've read alot of adverse comments with reference to Richard Hall, what I will say...He threw everything at Morris and Auty in heat 15, was up with them, made several attempted passes, very nearly got the Rebels the point they required....he would be a Somerset hero if it wasnt for some desparate scunny team riding. And finally...the Rebels supporters that were in attendance....class act... friendly banter as it should be. Well done. I don't doubt Hall did try hard and the decision to put him in in Heat 15 seems to me to a reasonable one. Davies had not beaten Morris or Auty and while Vissing had beaten Morris, Hall had beaten Auty. Closer decision than some have made out I'd say and the actual points scored in the meeting aren't a fair yardstick to judge the decision on. You have to question Somerset's use of him as a guest, though. His average is no less than 2.25 points below Doyle's so effectively you are replacing one of the league's top riders with someone who is a third heat leader at best, and its difficult to believe that he was the best choice avilable. Many congratulations to Scunthorpe.
June
The worst decision that Somerset made was turning down Scunthorpe's request for no tactical rides to be used in the final. If they had agreed, then Somerset would be the League Champions !! I like your post because I hate tacticals but there are many " ifs " If Scunny hadn't had 3 chains go we could have won at Somerset. thats speedway!. Tonight must have been a nervy night for all riders (both teams) The huge crowd, very noisy, atmosphere electric, you could sense tension at the start line. There was some very good races with fast times, Although we had some rain during the meeting all riders put in maximum effort and thats all we can expect, only one team could win and I'm thrilled that it was Scunny but I feel for Somerset missing out. After the meeting Mr. Godfrey said in conversation that the top 3 teams in the league had won cups. ( Somerset, Newcastle and Scunny ) so can't be so bad!
