Mr. Clemens
Possibly in 2006, I was at Belle Vue, walking towards the pits, with my nephew. As I walked around, out of the corner of my eye, to my right, I saw a kid sat on a wall. Just as I was in line with the kid, he got up and dashed across right in front of me. There was no doubt he'd done this intentionally. I said to my nephew, 'Did you see what that pig ignorant little beresford did just then?'. My nephew smiled and said, 'do you know who that pig ignorant little beresford is?' 'No,' said I. 'It's Tai Woffinden', said he. 'I don't care who he is,' said I, 'he's still a pig ignorant little beresford'. He was hailed as the new wonder kid in those days, one who could do no wrong. Having followed the sport for 40 years I have seen wonder kids come and go without making the mark they were expected to do. After that episode at Belle Vue, at the time and since I have never written a word about him. I thought I would wait and see what he could and would do as time went by Since then, of course, the lad has gone through trauma, trial and tribulations, which mould the character and temper the personality of those who endure these experiences. The fact the lad won the world championship last night, and elevated himself 'amongst the gods', indicates he has got to grips with his temprement, come to terms with the flaws in his character, overcome them all. As such he will have made his family proud non more so than his father, who no doubt is smiling down on him as we speak Well done lad, there is nothing like redemption and such a trophy, as you have now, is the living embodiment of that redemption. BigE
From the Aussie (Perth) side of the fence, no one more deserving than Tai to win this year. From the moment in practice at Auckland he looked so focused and proved all the nah sayers wrong. WELL DONE
PHILIPRISING
DECENT piece in the Sunday Times, smaller one in the Sun on Sunday ... obviously will depend of what edition you get in your particular area
Brummie Kev
Really glad Tai got it wrapped so early, and truely deserves it. The desire and grit he has showed this year has been amazing, when you consider the injury setbacks he has had with his collerbone. Despite the doom and gloom surrounding the sport in this country at times, its just great to have a British rider top of the world. You have done the sport and country proud Tai Woffinden!!

paulboy
BBC Radio 2 (Chris Evans show) made a huge effort to hunt Tai down in Poland this morning and believe he was on at sometime ... Yes, interviewed live at about 8.55, maybe 3 mintutes, they'd clearly got him out of bed :-)
Gavan
MJJ is a far better rider. Putting TW in the gps is like throwing a gold fish into the pacific ocean not like pinstripe to be wide of the mark again! Well done Tai

Guest
“It is what it is. It has been a long old season and you’ve heard a lot of national anthems. But the last national anthem you hear is the one that counts. In a fortnight’s time, you’re going to hear mine.” Love That! Waltzing Matilda? Advance Australia Fair actually. Shame it's a dirge. Hampel will not get 16 points in Torun. Woffinden is a very deserved World Champion. He is part of the new breed that is set to dominate world speedway. Tai Woofinden is without doubt, the best West Australian speedway rider since Chum Taylor. Tai Woffinden was born in Scunthorpe.
Star Lady
I'm more and more impressed by Tai. I admit I wasn't keen a few years back but the change this season has been amazing. His on track exploits are obvious but what's impressed me more is his off track activities. His charity bike ride - goes without saying. More amazing than anything has been the publicity he has generated on winning the title. He has got more column inches, mentions on TV and radio in less than a week that the BSPA have managed in a decade. OK he hasn't done it all personally but he has chosen his team well and they like him have performed. What's more he hasn't let them down, he has come across as a well-mannered, likeable, articulate, unassuming and caring young man. He'a a credit to his Mum and Dad. Well done Tai, thoroughly deserved .
Chalkie
Yes, interviewed live at about 8.55, maybe 3 mintutes, they'd clearly got him out of bed :-) Go to The Chris Evans Show and listen at 2 hrs 21mins & 42 secs, for a not half bad interview with a young man who thoroughly deserves his World Championship. mickthemuppet
Daily Telegraph had a bigger write up on Saturday than today's DT. There was about 8 lines today. Sunday Telegraph yesterday had nothing. GOOD INTERVIEW ON THE Chris Evans show. How he has improved his image and media skills this year. Well done Tai Edited October 7, 2013 by mickthemuppet
PHILIPRISING
POSTED elsewhere that DT requested 300 words and that's what they got ... just illustrates how far speedway has slipped down the pecking order even when we have the World Champion.
