Leicester Lions 2013

Recommended Posts

What makes it worse is the fact that the one we let slip through our fingers, Lewis Kerr, has had a flying start to his Newcastle career, topped off with a paid maximum yesterday, how we could do with him at reserve now.

There will be a few people with egg on their faces I imagine. I can remember reading a thread last year where Lewis was guesting for Somerset I think and people were refusing to travel because they were watering down the product by getting 'NL guests' in. This can only be good for young brits although, it doesn't mean all brits will achieve this but it shows the talent is out there if they are given a chance. Us Lions fans now need to get behind our team as this can't be good for morale as lets not forget Lewis wasn't Newcastles first choice either. I believe he came in to replace Jason King !!!!

Well done Lewis lets hope you have set the precenden, Well done KL/Leicester for getting him out there and Well done Newcastle for taking the punt t!!!!!! I'm sure Scunthorpe are due a well done there somewhere but I can't think of a reason at this present time

Everyone is a winner :-)

The Newcastle promotion waited for broken arm victim Jason to have a ride on a dryish track to test his recovery. In outings at Northside he declared that his rebroken arm had still not healed, and was unable to take the ride offered.

Blackburn and Kerr were selected to be double uppers at reserve for Leicester, but Kerr jumped at the chance of a full team place on offer at Newcastle, despite the extra travel. He looked great last night and could have been offered heat 15, but he ended up with a paid max in only his third meeting.

Nothing wrong with any of that I was just making the point that Kerr wasn't the first choice for the Diamonds either if it hadn't been for King declaring himself unfit he would still be sharing with Blackbird now :t: even though he is probably perfroming better than S Worrall at present

What are you on about ? the reason the team is not performing is the loss of Adam Roynon, it's hit them a lot harder then they are letting on  in 2 hours at Scunthorpe he became such an integral part of the lions set-up and without him the others just cannot perform ? they needed Adams help and encouragement because they are all inexperienced at the sport especially Doolan and Nieminen , I just hope they can manage until he returns In a couple of weeks

I have seen on facebook Adam Lowe has come out of retirement & was invited by the promotion to practising at Leicester on sunday to see how he goes.

So it looks like its Adam Lowe to replace Simon Nielsen & then get rid of Kevin Doolan & it leaves us with 8.37 to bring in a 3rd no 1

At the weekend DH in his notes described the performance at Edinburgh as 'at best inept' and that the Glyn and the promoters will be looking at what is available over the next few weeks to make us stronger. We were poor last year away but very strong at home and have generally carried that on this year it will be interesting to see what changes will be made.

Before our next home meeting, we have 3 away meetings so for some riders who will not have the chance to fall back on home form in between, these 3 meetings could be very important. You can make a case for all riders to stay and I think Doolan and Bjerre are OK (especially as Glyn exonerated them from inept Edinburgh performance) , but the rest could all be looking over their shoulders.

  • 3 weeks later...

Looks like it could be time for a major reworking of the team. We have far too many riders who can only gate and are found out time and time again away from home. They might be fine at home where if you can drop in front of the opposition you can generally stay there but it doesn't work away. We are hapless. The team was built around a 7.00 rider we expected to be a 9-9.50 point rider (Roynon) and he's been replaced by a 7.00 rider who to all intents and prurposes has been a 6.00 rider for the last two seasons (Karlsson). As much as i like him he's still not living up to his average. Same with Graversen. He's a good rider to have in the team and would be a good 4.00-4.50 point reserve but his average is 5.00. Same to a lesser extent with Nielsen.

You probably hate me for bringing it around to this again but it really is time to take away our ridiculous home track advantage and make a fairer track that gives our riders averages that actually reflect their ability. Either that or we need to make sure we lose all the riders who end up with false averages each year. It's like County Ground syndrome all over but without the excitement. When most of the team have averages far in excess of what they would be capable of in any other team what chance have we of building a team to a standard that will have us competing home and away.

Mick.

Can't disagree with anything you say there Volty. Roynon's absence ruined the balance and we generally are left with the side who were dreadful away from BP last year. We all like Graverson but he beat 2 riders tonight, Starke and Sarjeant. Karlsson is riding at 6, the reserves are weak and we have Bjerre absent most of the time. Doolan is performing well and Nemo is on par but that is it.

Why did they sign a rider like bjerre who was likely to miss so many matches ?

Will he be there tomorrow at BP

Bjerre is due to be at Leicester Sunday and has only qualified as reserve for U21 finals so not likely to miss more meetings now.

I think the revolving door at Leicester will be opening again this week with only Doolan and Bjerre safe I know it would not be popular but maybe Nemo and Karlson will go

We should be sitting here now with a team of nieminen doolan roynon bjerre graversen Kerr and blackbird all able to race, not just ride, on a track newly altered by the top track curator they had available to them I.e Glyn Taylor (as opposed to comedy Dave Darcy) that allowed racers to race and overtake and want to ride for the Lions. The reality has turned out slightly different and, with the exception of Roynon, its time the promotion finally realised the errors they have made and made amends before its too late.

Not sure Nemo will go. He is doing well enough to be retained with Bjerre and Doolan and the testimonial is likely to see him here for the season. I think too many changes would see natives become restless and Karlsson and Jan are underperforming. Depends who is out there though.

Did you not go to the youth championship last week when Roynon was interviewed on the centre green?

No, i was on holiday down Somerset way so didn't make it. What did he say or was it just for the ears of the real fans like you and Great Central (as opposed to us internet whinging, armchair types who put the future of the sport in Leicester in doubt).

Sorry to crash a 'who should be signed' topic, but I've yet to visit Leicester. Looking at coming over for a meeting this year - can Leicester fans suggest any meetings that are looking particularly good for a neutral to visit?
