Gemini
Not really because those teams will be local derbies - Coventry, Wolverhampton, Birmingham......and I'd better include Peterborough this time. I don't think any Leicester fan would get sick of seeing Lions v Bees either. Incidentally Coventry only met Poole once on April 9th and that would have been the only time all season if both clubs hadn't met in the K.O. Cup Final at the end of October. barrow boy
Didn't want to start a new topic for this so I hope that you will forgive me for using it to make a comment on Jan Graversen's award at the club's annual dinner dance and presentation night for the 2012 team's most improved rider when he ended the season with a small average increase of just 6.97% compared to Linus Eklof's massive 58.37%. Jan started the season on 4.59 and finished it on 4.91. Linus' most current stint prior to joining Leicester was for Belle Vue in the Elite League where he scored 24 points from 39 rides which is an average of 2.46 which when increased by the mandatory 60% meant that he started with Leicester on a real average of 3.94. He achieved an average of 6.24 with the Lions which I felt should have got him more than just 1% of the vote for most improved rider. Jan is by a mile the team's most popular and is no doubt many people's favourite but not the most improved. Incidentally captain Kauko Nieminen up his average by more also. There would have been no point asking for fans to vote for most improved rider if it was purely based on points average. Maybe people were also taking into account on track effort and attitude? Jan certainly put a lot of effort into his racing this season with some good passes.

Just shows how averages dont paint the whole picture. Jan's average may only have increased a little but you would not have to have watched him all season not to seen the improvement in his riding over the previous season. I don't recall him getting close to overtaking anyone at BP in his first year and yet this year he was the man most likely to outside of Lasse and Kauko. He's moved his game on. Also, can't help but point out that Linus didn't improve his average on the previous year. without checking It was actually down slightly i think. Linus is what he is. It would be a stretch of imagination to say he's improved for Leicester on what we know he could do or what was expected. Nobblytriers
We have definately applied to join the EL. I'm reliably led to believe we find out on Wednesday. I think if we are pl then Nemo will ride for us and if we go Elite then its Lakesides decision. Thanks for the clarification, I was beginining to think I'd missed out on some important news. Looking forward to see the Lions again next season, whichever league they decide to ride in, and it would be nice to see some of this years team riding for us too. I'd like to think that there's room for Lasse, Nemo and Magnuss if we go EL and if we stay PL, I'd hope to see pretty much the same team as we finished with, with maybe Neilson included if possible. justathought
Sheffield prompter Hoggart also moved to quash internet rumours that the Tigers have struck a deal with Leicester’s Finnish international Kauko Nieminen. I thought someone on here said this was a nailed on deal...................can't believe that everything you read on internet forums aren't true. Mike.Butler
well i'd rather see leicester in the elite league than a club who only want to run 14 meetings in a whole season..this is going back to the 70's when new promoters had to pay a very substantial fee to join the top table......can't be right that a team who cannot complete fixtures has priority eihther just because they are already in...if this was Rugby League they would seriously be looking at revoking a licence I'd have thjought..maybe this is the prob..run a porr show and short change the fans but never mind....we'll still get the money and be here next year.. Gemini
I'm sure it does. I fully expect Ryan to be at Leicester next season but it's a shame the news was probably released a bit earlier than the boss wanted.
jim the whipper
sad if a forward thinking, financially stable and ambitious club are kept out because of short sightedness at the top but speedway being speedway i guess it wouldnt be unexpected if short sighted short term gain wins out. What club is this then ? Can't be Leicester because they are so forward thinking that they have not invested the small amount to alter their appalling track that would have kept a significant amount of support thereby securing the clubs future . the only short sightedness about Leicesters application to Join the Elite league is their own .blinded by a non existent pot of gold and too short sighted to see that the extra expense and the disruption to their fixture list will further alienate the supporters ,

jim the whipper
The track's being altered in a few weeks according to the promotion after a few more practice events have been held and before the bloke doing it migrates for the winter. Find some facts before posting your usual braindead rant. Heres some facts for you !!!. The leicester promotion have known for 2 seasons that support has been drifting away because of the tracks reputation for crap racing and has done nothing about it , that is not forward thinking .........Fact .. The elite league is struggling because of the Gps ruining the continuity of their fixture list and the expense of trying to employ the top riders ....Fact.. there is no pot of gold from the Sky money . by the time the crooked gospeed have taken their cut from it it barely covers the losses generated by stay at home and watch on TV supporters ...fact ... Wie-Ja is blinded by his defensiveness of Leicester speedway and too thick to see what has actually been posted ..........Fact oh and while we are about it fails to read posts and take on board what they actually say before posting his usual Braindead rant !!! neb
has the thought crossed your mind that maybe just maybe they couldn't afford to change the track last year but now are in a better position to sort it in readiness for the 2013 season.support maybe has drifted away a little but many tracks including some in the elite would be in ore of the crowds leicester still get despite the racing not being the best.there is plenty of forward thinking at leicester dont worry about that just look at what they have accomplished after 2 years back from a disused bit of waste land to what they have now.i take my hat off to david hemsley for putting his money where his mouth is and bringing speedway back i agree it does need some fine tuning but be patient i am sure he is well aware of the problems and when funds are available he will get it right.cut the guy a bit of slack and give him ,his team and leicester speedway a bit of credit for a change.

That thought had not really crossed my mind so much as the one that said changing the track would pay for itself and they couldn't afford not to change it . my original reply was to Volty's suggestion that Leicester are a forward thinking club. IMO they are not. if the were they would have looked to the future and provided a sound footing for the clubs future by creating a track that provides entertainment and keeps not only it's own supporters coming through the gate but also crossover support from other teams . just like many other Posters who are Leicester supporters you choose to bolster your arguments with untruths . it was not wasteland or disused at all it was a piece of level parkland and Leicester speedway started with a very nice blank canvas and have turned it into a wasteland . never mind cut the guy a bit of slack if no-one had made mention of the crap track would Dave Hemsley be proposing to change it now . so it's a good job that some people made him aware of their displeasure instead of cutting him slack and allowing him to fiddle while Rome burned . Time you and a good few more stopped coming the we're a new club plea and look how well St David has done it's well past it sell by and is no substitute for reasoned and factual debate !! Skodaman
support has been drifting away because of the tracks reputation for crap racing and has done nothing about it , that is not forward thinking ......... Last season the racing was generally better especially after the shale from Scunthorpe was put on the track. You may also have noticed that only one meeting was cancelled during the season which is a lot less than most other clubs; this on a crap track.
