Leicester Lions 2013

Recommended Posts

When we went to Sheffield last season you actually couldn't hear what the centre green presenter was saying from 60% of the stadium the PA is that bad. I think they just had 2 or 3 boom box speakers sitting on the greyhound track that you could only hear if you were positioned within a 30 foot radius of them. When i was in range the centre green presenter appeared to be almost obsessed with making cheap jibes at the expense of Popple. It was almost as if they were trying to show us how things were not as bad as they could be, Popple or not!

Is the Sheffield PA always like that because it really did feel like something makeshift was in place?

One thing i would like to see Hemsley look into is some sort of LCD score and time board on the centre green or maybe better on top of the 3rd bend VIP portacabins. I wouldn't have thought it would be that expensive to install though i may be wide of the mark.

The PA is a bit hit and missed at Sheffield, but the meeting against Leicester it was okay I remember been able to hearing what was said okay, and I stand at the back of the stadium on the 1st bend.

I don't know what it is about Sheffield and Leicester fixtures, but they seem to be full of needle, in fact I would say that there is not another speedway team in the Premier League that creates that sort of atmosphere. But its fun and for the atmosphere the Leicester fixture last season was the most enjoyable than any other last season.

Yes, if they are doing it for free what do you really expect, maybe DH should invest in a decent PA man and pay a good wage if thats what the fans want, for me its the racing and not the chit chat.

Come off it. You would complain either way according them getting paid or not. You only ask so you know which way you were going to be critical.

You are too easy to see through.

Like i said i dont go to speedway to listen to the center green chit chat, i go for the racing,so to be honest i wouldnt care if anyone was in the middle but if these guys are doing it for the love of leicester speedway how can lions fan knock them.

... Or perhaps it's better when people do something for the love rather than for the money, when you consider that most travelling fans say Leicester is just about the friendliest track they come to as regards stewarding etc and Riders appear to say its like a family at Leicester too. Maybe because its a passion not a job to the people who work there?

try a few different places. You'll get a seat in the grandstand or a place against the fence anywhere around the track if you get there by 7pm or a bit after. Different people like different places as you know. I like either first bend or middle of back straight myself

Thanks for the reply. :t:

do they really ? well it must just be the 2 factions of lions fans who create a tense atmosphere , Leicester Folk have a reputation thoughout the uk for being friendly and welcoming all the other teams tigers and foxes are renowned for their friendly nature , just like the leicester folk on these threads

I have thought long and hard about the following response about me being one of the rose tinted ones on this forum.

I feel that my responses are generally fair and when possible factual. I am not blinkered in any way. Indeed I have said before that I feel the track at Leicester is not right and I have told DH this. Nevertheless, there are several factors which can create good or bad racing - the shape of the track, the racing surface, the weather and the riders themselves. During the 2011 season the racing was poor for most of the season but there was some improvement towards the end due to Glyn preparing the surface with the track slick on the inside and grippier on the outside and into the bends. I along with others expected the track to be altered during the close season in accordance with the recommendations made by Colin Meredith and Doc Bridgett; but this was not done. Glyn was sacked and Gareth was brought in. The first three meetings of last season produced woeful racing and although I do not know why Gareth left, I think it may have something to do with the track preparation. DH agreed with me when I metioned how bad the racing had been in those meetings. Glyn came back and I feel that the racing improved and once the Scunthorpe shale was used on the track the racing improved a lot more when the weather allowed. As an example, the late season match against Sheffield produced passes in 11 races after the first two bends and in two other races riders finished less than a wheel diameter apart.

I feel that we are already getting positive comments from independant observers from other tracks who have been to Leicester during the latter part of last season.

I feel that once the work has been done on the track and in the right hands we should, I hope, lose the "gaters track" tag.

And so you see, Robert and Jim, I do agree with you on some matters but I dont like repetition and I am possibly too trusting in saying lets give them a chance to do the changes before we comment further.

I'm not sure why you needed to think long and hard about your response as most people who follow the Leicester threads will already know your views for what they are, well balanced and thought out. As someone else who also gets accused of wearing 'rose tinted' just because i think Leicester's promotion does most things very well, even though i'm very vociferous in my views of Leicester's actual track, i have come to the conclusion long ago that all it basically shows is the ignorance of the couple of people who constantly make these accusations. In that they can't be bothered to actually read anyone else's post bar their own in order to understand and differentiate the views of other people that post in the forums they participate in.

Mick.

I think we may have conflicting views on the racing because you are watching at a different Leicester speedway to everyone else , Is there another Beaumont park in a 4th dimension somewhere that I can't see because I only have 3d vision . that would be the place where you saw eleven great races in one meeting I assume

Are these 'gangs' easily identified or can I start my own gang?

they don't wear a sign round their necks or a particular piece of jewellery or brand of trainers , but they usually stand around in groups of about 20 and largely make a point of ignoring each other .. you can start your own gang if you wish although there is already a large choice so you will need your own agenda that has mass appeal if you are to gain a reasonable size group , I take it from your avatar that you are a Bees fan , so you could try starting the I'm about as welcome as a dose of clap group .

you forgot the chip on shoulder brigade...easily spotted by their one eye, dribbling mouth, flat cap and pungent aroma, invariably they stand alone unloved and ridiculed by the rest of us loyal fans who don't have an agenda and have a balanced view of Leicester Speedway.

also you can normally spot them because they will be sat between races (well at least two of them will) on fishing type chairs with their tupperware boxes full of butties, apple and a yoggie, not forgetting the flask of tea.
