Leicester Lions 2013

Recommended Posts

Nice to read your comments too Glyn. It's a shame that some people just can't accept that other people have different views to theirs and resort to sarcastic and sometimes insulting responses to well meaning posts.

Many people put leicester down last season, saying we had a weak team and four reserves. Well, we made the play offs with that team. Now some are saying we have a long tail again. I think we will prove them wrong again. Well done Glyn, I'll enjoy watching the Lions this season and there's nothing wrong with pushing for your boys to make improvements. Some on here just don't have your belief.

To try and get the subject back on Lions 2013. It will be interesting to see if our away performances and attitude towards some of the grippier tracks is better with this squad. We seemed to have lost before we started at quite a few tracks last year, Sheffield and Newcastle spring to mind. Doolan, Roynon and Kerr all seem triers and maybe this was in Glyn's mind when putting the squad together as he was clearly exacerbated at times last year with some of the away performances we put in.

Interstingly, it's almost as though the team has been put together with the intent that we are able to perform at just the kind of tracks we failed so dismally at last year.

Volty Correct 100%

Does this mean the soon to be new shaped BP track will be grippier next season ?

All corners will be getting changed. Work will start sooner with the planning working out the drains ect.

The date of the 16th is the latest that work will start. We may start earlier than that. Time is not a problem.

It will take 3/4 days to do the work.

So it now seems things have changed from what you said above a few days ago ? so the track work will now start after the 17th feb

Training days

Dec 30th

Jan 13th and 27th

Feb 3rd and 17th. Then we are changing the track.

We open again on the 3rd of March.

Wow! So he got it 1 day out. Does it really matter? Can't you please buy Oxford stadium so you can show the rest of the world how good you could promote a speedway team?

Glyn, It is appreciated that you can add a bit to the debate and take the guessing and speculation out of the equation whilst also providing an interesting insight to the line up and thought process. The subsequent moaning is utterly staggering.

I wouldn't let the idiots get to you Glyn - don't let them have the satisfaction!

I have just put a genuine question about Chris Holder on the Speedway Discussions sub-forum and it didn't take long to get a childish reply. I do wonder sometimes.....

Exactly. And I see what you mean TR.m

It has been really good to see Glyn on here, but due to the complete lack of respect shown by the MINORITY on here, I wouldn't blame Glyn if he never made another comment on here.

It's one thing having reasoned debate and well worded respectful disagreement, but its quite another just taking the pi*s continuously at every post Glyn makes, which just shows a complete lack of respect and quite frankly a lack of interlect.

to be fair on us Lions fans, the 'minority' was pretty much 1 newcastle fan with a penchant for trying to wind people teams fans up (which he clearly succeeded in doing).

Keyboard warriors on here infuriate me. Come on to try and wind people up so sad!

no??.... I think the idea of 2 rookies averaging say 5 by mid season is outlandish...it's a public forum, so surely you can reply as you see fit?? I couldn't give a monkeys who the poster is and wasnt lacking respect or winding anyone up...it's my opinion...that's all...it's not a crime to disagree or not be a brown nose is it, just because of whom I replied too.??

I agree. that was the point of my post. My point being that Glyn would have been better ignoring your wind ups and you, being a Newcastle fan, would probably head off somewhere else, and life would carry on. I'm with Gemini in that i didn't see too much to get too pissed off by but then i'm not Glyn and you clearly pissed him off! I think everyone is going a bit over the top in some of their replies.

wasnt a wind up though?? There are loads of riders, many seasoned pros who struggled to ave over 5, to say they will do it and by mid season is very speculative....that's all I meant, no malice, no wind up...just an opinion!! Hey I hope I'm wrong, wont be the first time, but it's an opinion not life or death...if the poster can give an opinion, then so can everyone else ...not my fault all and sundry feel you can't disagree with anyone connected with speedway management or promotion...it was light hearted anyway...what's the problem??

Your never going to get the perfect team.

I think it's never easy to get a really good reserve pairing but, I think we have done pretty well in that department. Certainly as good as some other teams. With the riders we now have we are always going to be top heavy.

I think our top end will blow most of the opposition away and I can see a few away wins coming our way.

totally agree nightshift. I'm really looking forward to seeing some more convincing form away from home and getting some big away wins over the next year. The top 4 may not fire all together at the same time every meeting but out of that top 4 we look to have a couple of track specialists at most of the away tracks.

I think your too four are decent, no doubt. But blow away, I remain to be convinced. I think Doolan is great, but can he get back to being the rider he was 2 years ago? I think you need guys who will dominate away from home. Like Craig Cook did for monarchs, but with no back up,

I think your top 4 is good, no doubt but I am not convinced they will dominate. I think the lions team is more of an all round one. A good 1-7 really.

You could be right, the simple answer is nobody really knows what will happen..

It looks a good solid team to me and I think it will do very well.................Only time will tell.

It’s certainly an interesting Lions line up for 2013, and despite being seen on here as a true dissenter, I shall appease the wishes of the true supporters by only speaking of the team. Here’s what I think is an objective view...

Doolan has been on a slight downward curve for the last 2-3 seasons and his scores at Leicester have never been that great so I was surprised to see him in there. I like Kevin though. He's one of the speedway’s good guys and I really do hope he turns things around. Hopefully not being the number 1 will mean he can ride without pressure and produce the goods. His spell at Redcar after being released by Ipswich augurs well but it was a season of two halves for him in 2012. Let's hope we get the latter form at Leicester.

Roynan is a super rider to watch but the way he rides leaves him always likely to get injured, particularly as he also seems cursed with bad luck too! He scares me! I can't imagine how he'll get on with Leicester's track week in week out either as he likes to ride wide and there's not much to be had at BP out there. (The track debate is a separate argument so I'll leave it there)

Niemenen and Bjerre will no doubt produce what they did last year so that's a decent platform and Graversen will likely score good points at BP so they should be ok at home. However, the bottom end still looks quite weak, especially away from home. I can't see any of those guys performing to double figures and taking 6/7 rides away etc. Regular good scores from reserve are a massive bonus to any team and Lions don't appear to have any so I can see a change at reserve by May as neither of the Lewis' will score the points to keep DH happy.

Simon Neilsen is still unproven. It’s going to be a big learning year for him not having done a full season in this country yet and it will be interesting to see how, or if, his long lay off affects him. As we all know, every title winning team needs to pick up points away and that's going to be hard to do on a regular basis if they're struggling at reserve. Maybe the inevitable change will help achieve that. We'll see.

It’s not a title winning side I don't think but I would expect a similar season to last. The Lions are definitely capable of staying unbeaten at home with maybe enough points collected away to make the top 6.

Steady mate, you'll start caring again if you're not careful! Decent team review though just a shame you'll never see them in action or the new track shape.

I'm keen to see Lewis move up a gear (excuse the expression) again and for rider of 2012, Jan to continue his progress. From what I've been told about the track changes by your nemesis there will be plenty of room for Adam in 2013.

I think we have a fantastic chance of winning the 4's next season.

Teams always perform differently to how they look on paper. I expected Ipswich to do far better last season.

It's noticeable that the money is now there to pay the likes of Doolan because he was unaffordable in 2011.

Although there is now some sort of pay structure that has been put in place after the AGM in Nov.

Leicester are also to trial a track cover next year for the BSPA....Gould knows what that's going to be but has to be something to do with all the rain offs in 2012.
