mrcts
I cannot believe that safety is questioned, you say practice/training sessions is not racing, I have witnessed a number of major crashes at these events around the country before the air fence days and seen some bad injuries, I just think they have an air fence at leicester so why not inflate it in case a rider takes off and gets badly hurt. Speedway is an inherently dangerous sport, the riders know the risks and its up to them if they choose to practice without an air fence,if they don't fancy it they won't ride....simples.
montie
Quite right. It's a practice/training session and insured as such - it's certainly not racing, The cost of repairing a damaged air fence is way more than you could imagine, it's not just an Elastoplast job, My guess is that it's use for such sessions would make the cost to riders way over the £40 mark, Scunny always have air fence up and i think its £35 a session

Shows your stupidity, So if its dangerous then why not make it safer for the riders, Everyone connected in running speedway should make sure the safety of everyone is paramount, Why can scunny put theres up and leicester cant be bothered. jim the whipper
Scunny always have air fence up and i think its £35 a session scunny don't have any choice , because there is no wire fence behind it's armco , they also have a touch if you must pay if you bust policy £100 if you burst a panel .. kings lynn dont have their air fence up . the only place i have seen an airfence for practise is Stoke .

Again shows you don't go to the sessions. I've been to them all at some part of the days and nobody has connected with the fence when I've been there, because they are not 'racing' so are riding where they want to ride, rather than where they are forced to ride by the other riders in the race. So the risks are NOT the same. Scunthorpe maybe leave there's up as they have Amateur RACE Meetings in the Winter, which for the reasons stated above is very different to practice sessions with no RACING that take place at Leicester, plus the excellent point Jim made about the Armco Edited January 28, 2013 by hurricanes

That is not true, practice is 35 and there is no cost if you bust an air fence bag When is track rented out to a group, they pay a fixed rate of i think 300 between them then pay for air bag repairs So your wrong, during open practice there is no charge for busting a bag!! If one rider went out wide and hit the air fence during a practice session and it saved them serious injury it was worth the effort to put the air fence up. I have seen a world class rider slide off on his own and break his back practising,i have seen a kid nearly lose his head when he hit the fence practising, I have seen a rider who couldnt hardly slide a bike and the next thing he took off full throttle and went straight into the fence and smashed both legs (no air fence back then) he had screws type frame sticking out for months,he never rode again, list goes on to the crashes i have seen at training sessions,I just think if you have an air fence use it in case its needed. Well Leicester has a 'safer' type of mesh fence than in th past as its got 'give' in it with the chains that keep it away from the poles, creating a slight cushion effect, so again, times have moved on from the years gone by since those crashes may have happened. But in any event I give the specific Leicester track evidence that riders have slid off and not reached the fence in virtlually all cases in these practice sessions
Nobblytriers
Robert72, can I suggest that, instead of asking your question on here, and not accepting anyones answer, why don't you write or phone DH to ask him? If you'd have gone down on Sunday you could have shouted to him while he was with everyone else getting stuck in trying to get the track in a rideable condition ... and a good job they all did too!
lionking
So Leicester are going to open the season with a challenge on Sat 16th March vs COVENTRY Thats completely stupid yeah great local rivalry & see KK & Nicholls at BP. BUT with both teams billed to be at full strength Coventry will absolutely thrash Leicester . Coventry's no 5 is a top premier league heat leader. The polish brothers vs Lewis Blackbird . The sides are so mismatched. Strikes me its all about making money off this fixture & not about preparing the team for a title challenging season. Great to start the season with a loss at home then a 2 week break. Edited January 29, 2013 by lionking

Are you serious, the chance to see Nicholls,Kasprazak etc round Leicester is sure to bring out a big crowd,so well done to the Leicester promotion for doing so. Better to give an EL team a challenge than to give a PL team free practice.

robert72
If both teams were equal then this would be appealing but this is far from eqaul, just money making, bring on the premier league season
