Edinburgh V Workington (play-offs) - Friday, October 19th (7.30pm)

Recommended Posts

Crikey, fiddled their averages to strengthen more than their rivals mid-season and now they want awarded a final place to avoid the chance of Workington beating Edinburgh! Some clubs are beyond desperate.

Where have you been all season. Nearly all the teams have changed their line ups due to injuries or lack of form. We made ours through an injury to Tom Armstrong Plus 1 other to accomadate 2 incoming riders. IF you have been reading the forums or Speedway Star, you would know it was going to be Tom & M P Toft but their CMA's changed so we could not bring in the 2 riders we wanted. Therefore, we had to let Tero go with Tom. At that point, MPT was still strugling for form with his bikes not performing so he had an engine tuned by a top bloke & has never looked back.

Fiddling-don't think so, Manipulating-again, i don't think so just a bit of tweeking to the team personnel.

Crazy, not a bit of wonder the sport is a laughing stock

The play-offs in the PL and EL have turned into a shambles thanks to the weather, this is probably the least worst decision.

Anyway I consider Newcastle Diamonds to be Champions, they finished top with the most points, what more do you need to know.

Lots of sympathy for the Workington fans, but going by the results of the matches completed, this is the correct decision.

Let's hope the weather now gives us everyone a clear run until the end of the season. I've not known a season since 1986 like this for the weather.

And good luck to Workington for tonight.

All the best

Rob

Did Edinburgh offer another date? Did the Comets refuse? It should have been rerun but if not possible it wouldn't have been fair on Scunny to award us 3 pts. Very unsatisfactory end to the season.

I am reliably informed that Edinburgh did not offer another date so the Comets were not in a position to accept or refuse another date.

I am also told that the Comets management didn't even get a phone call from the BSPA to say what was happening and the first they heard about the decision was when the BSPA Press Office issued a statement late this morning to say that the decision had already been made to put Scunthorpe into the final!

The weather has played a big part in procedings throughout the year so there will not be rules to account for the decisions made this last 10 days in the EL & PL. When there have been individual meetings & riders are tied the result of the race when they faced each other denotes the top rider. Obviously, similar in the team events. Edinburgh could not finish top of the group so it boiled down to the results of Scunthorpe & Workington. A win apiece but Scunthorpe has the greater aggregate score so go through. It, also, sets the stall out for future, similar occasions.

Common sense has prevailed towards the end of a rain affected season. Let us hope it does not happen again.

No offence to Somerset of Scunthorpe but it just a farce now.

Why does the season have to end on that day ? I have always found it confusing . Surely special dispensation should be granted in these circumstances if needed ? The elite KOC cup has been reduced to farce also , if the poole / panthers fixtures are not run the toss of a coin to decide the finalists perhaps !!!! Racing in november would be fine by me !

From here I see this as an exceptional circumstance.

On TV, etc, we are told this has been the wettest year since 1830. That's 182 years!

How can we complain if what was a sensible, logical way to culminate a season has been washed away by rain the like of which me shouldn't expect to see in such quantity again until 2194?

Give credit to BSPA, etc, for moving things along. If we have the same league system and multiple play-offs next year (and I hope we do) it'll be home and hosed in September.

Not for Somerset, we earned our way there.

Scunthorpe completed our fixtures as well, and scored 7 match points, despite being without 2 riders in one match, 3 riders in a further match, and 4 riders in the two remaining matches.

Our riders (plus guests) battled their way to get into a very healthy position.

Nothing farcical about that.

All the best

As i said nothing to do with the two teams involved in the final, just the way the end of season has finished, the weather and too many comps crammed in to the last month of the season.

What happens if Worky beat Newcastle today in the semi and only one weekend left to fulfil the fixture, oh and a PL match against Berwick......

This sport is an absolute joke...not a worky fan but to be denied the chance of one cup final and a chance to be league champions is nothing short of ludicrous.....you ride all season, battle injurys and weather to compete for silverware yet lose out because of it.....total disgrace!!!

Come on Somerset, beat both Ippo and Scunny....who are there by default, not by actually winning the by the set out formula....effin pathetic no wonder fans stay away!!!
