might go to this but only if buxton are at full strenght i e is wrighty riding and preisty could be a away win for us in what could be buxtons last away meeting ever or is there hope for next year

Buxton should be at full strength apart from r/r for Rob Branford. The weather forecast doesn't look too good though but there is still time for the forecasters to change their minds!!

Tapes up at 7.45pm on the dot and meeting closed at 9.00pm........now that's the way to run a speedway meeting in my opinion.

Considering it was a bottom of the league clash on what was a fairly cold night, there was some really entertaining racing, with Heat 14 being the best race of the meeting.

Credit to Buxton for making a real fight of it, especially as Adam McKinna suffered a breakdown (vehicle, not him) en-route, and had to be replaced by local junior Adam Portwood, who quite understandfailedably failed to score. What a pity there weren't more people in attendance to watch proceedings.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank EVERYBODY involved at King's Lynn in keeping the National League team running again in 2012, which has produced as much entertainment if not more than the Elite League side. Thanks also to all the other clubs that have kept operating in this league, which is vital to British youngsters if they are to have any chance of progressing up the ladder to stardom.

Mimmo, how many people have been showing up for the stand alone NL meetings?

No where enough sadly, which is such a shame, because the standard of racing is generally very entertaining, and worthy of public support.

I thought with the EL over and still some NL meeting to run that the team may have got the benefit of folk wanting speedway until end of season and the young stars may be rewarded with some healthy crowds, such a shame as as you say the standard of some of the NL speedway is brilliant

Im not sure what the future holds for the dual clubs

For me the NL suffers as a competition because of the lack of investment and infrastructure in under 15 racing. Certainly not knocking what Morris, Vatcher et al do as they work hard with what they have but we need something like they have in Scandinavia so that riders are far more developed when they reach fifteen and there are more of them. Without being rude the NL has too many riders who have reached their level and ride in the third division every year and not enough riders like Josh Bates, Stefan Nielsen, Adam Ellis, Lewi Kerr etc who develop quickly and are exciting to watch. The balance needs to shift. I usually go to three or four third division meetings a season and in the eighteen (?) odd years since the third tier was launched I can probably count the number of thoroughly enjoyable matches I've seen in that time on one hand, although beauty is of course in the eye of the beholder. Not really sure what the answer is short term but the NL is desperately needed for the few promising youngsters we have got.

I also would have thought more people would have turned up on a Wednesday evening now that the Elite League is over for The Stars. It seems many people only want to watch the top riders (If you can call the Elite League this!) and have no interest in the youngsters. I know of people who will not come to watch racing at this level because "they are always falling off". This is a sad state of affairs and if this level is not supported where will the future British riders come from? Admittedly there are riders in this league who are not likely to progress further and may be taking places younger riders could occupy. It remains to be seen what form this league takes in 2013.We have been supporting third tier speedway since 2000 and, hopefully, will continue to do so.

while this is a harsh statement, it is also true. some of the riders are inexperienced, and the meeting drags because of constant falls and delays.

Glad that you enjoyed it. Mimmo enjoyed it as well and put in a similar report to yours and it is just a pity that more spectators didn't go and watch. Not sure what these boys have to do to gain more support. Two falls only last night and both riders cleared the track early enough to prevent a race stoppage occurring - EL/PL boys please note. Thought the referee, officials and riders did well to keep it moving in good time and heat 14 was an absolute cracker. Yes they weren't going as fast as the EL riders but who cares when all 4 riders were in the mix for 4 laps.

Pity Adam Mc didn't make it since Buxton may well have turned KL over last night but well done to Adam Portwood. Got the call to ride at 4.30 in the afternoon and turned up on time. Tough task for Adam to get anything out of the meeting since he hasn't had that much racing this year and whilst he does 2nd halves and amateur racing there is quite a bridge to cross to get up to speed even at NL level.

Mike, excellent post again and how you just love your speedway at this level. It is a pity that more don't feel the same way. I looked for you last night but you must have been hiding!!! I hope that you weren't up in that warm ref's box again whilst we were freezing at ground zero.

Hopefully the gloom and doom existing in speedway right now will evaporate over the winter and NL racing will bounce back a bit next year.

i was there last night and thought heat 14 was the best race involving all 4 riders I have seen live all season..

That is what woud bring some pounters back if repeated regularly.; four riders of equal ability and not knowing who would come where with passing on every lap....

Last October I saw the October KL DH vs Buxton and after 27 heats an end was called at 11.45 p.m.

This year i was home in Sussex by that time!

You're quite right TMW, it was forecast and it did happen, so why don't officials take heed of this sort of thing at all meetings when there is the probability of rain.

Last Sunday at Mildenhall just to quote one case, rain was forecast, and one could see by looking at the sky that it wasn't far away, yet still a parade was held instead of getting straight into racing? In this particular case, they probably wouldn't have got through to complete 12-heats, so it would still have been abandoned, but there again they might.

Why do we really need rider parades, because a lot of the time, the riders have their helmets on away, surely a quick circuit on the parade truck would suffice.

Just my opinion, and as normal, I'm probably in the minority....oh dear!!

The parade at mildenhall was actually 10 mins early and the first race started at the stated 4.30 time :)

I doubt they would have got through it all anyway.Poxy weather hey.
