fullockracingwa
Opening Night wrap up.. After weekends of hard work by the dedicated Speedway Motorcycle Club WA members & helpers the Pinjar Park venue was transformed into something completely different from previous seasons. Pinjar took on a new look with the removal of all centre green lights poles and what a difference its made, its given the whole venue a bigger image. New track lights on the outer area's have totally enhanced the excitement of motorcycle speedway racing at Pinjar Park and the positive feedback received has been fantastic to say the least. The biggest opening night crowd ever at Pinjar witnessed a great show, it had the lot from start to finish and the new track surface proved there's more than one way around the ultra excting 142mtr track. It was the experience of current WA solo Champion Frank Smart that showed when it mattered as he held out young Kale Ballantyne, the hard charging Dan Winchester and Pinjar regular Glen Gordon in the final of the 2012 Chum Taylor Foundation Cup. Smarty didn't get things all his own way going down to Winchester in an earlier heat to set up an exciting final. It must be said Kale Ballantyne would surely rate as the most improved solo rider in Perth going on his great display on Saturday night and you can never count out Winchester nor Gordon at the ring. Young Doug Scoble took out the Consolation Final with a tidy ride showing he's also another rider on the up. Solo ranks at Pinjar Park will be strengthened further next month with the long awaited arrival of the featured Resident Riders in Swedish international Ricky Kling, young English star Joe Jacobs, Victorian racer Ryan Sedgmen & WA international wizz kid Cameron Heeps. The biggest nominated field of sidecars ever at Pinjar Park was on hand for the running of the Dennis Nash Foundation Cup, and boy they didn't disappoint the punters. There were some heavy hitters in the mix but when the dust settled former Aussie #1 Russell Mitchell & Josh O'Bryan took the honours with a polished display of riding. If it looked 'rough n tough' from the terraces' it was, just ask John Lowe & Andy Gajek who both took a heavy roll. From memory a couple of passengers lost their grip mid race as did the new paint job on the fence panels. One things for sure these guys are value for money and how good was it when the Beagle's took on Mitchell/ O'Bryan for a 3 lap handle bar to handle bar no holes barred trip around Pinjar, awesome stuff. With the sport on the up junior rider numbers are at an all time high. Just check out the amount of Pee Wee's, junior solo's, the exciting 85cc FIM bikes and the Carter Class 250cc solo's that are now all on the program. The SMCWA can boast the largest number of Pee Wee kids riding in WA at any one club, that's a healthy sign and the smiles on the kids (& parents) faces tells the story. There's no doubting the introduction of some new junior divisions will all add to the steady growth of future senior riders in Perth over the next few years. Just take a look at the exciting group of talented young riders on display at Pinjar last Saturday night. It wasn't that long ago a young Tai Woffinden & Cameron Heeps were both racing around and look how far those boys have gone, exciting times ahead for motorcycle speedway racing in WA.
