New Year Classic Speedway

Recommended Posts

My thoughts exactly. On a Friday night too, when many will be back at work. Very strange decision if you ask me.

One of the other advantages of this being on a Sunday afternoon meant that many people from all over could travel to this without worrying about work commitments etc.

If the line up is decent then I will go, but I'm not working that week.

sorry but how many people work friday night especially during a bank holiday week, (apologies to those that do), as for 7pm, obviously it may be due to what times somerset are permitted to run, but for me personally this a good time, after the family get together of xmas and before the mayhem/celebration :drink: of new year, hope it works for somerset as has been said before, anyone can apply to run this event, they have and i for sure will be there, straight down the m5 easy access. what is also good is 16 rider 20 hts, unlike the 12 rider dross that newport ran. may even look at b+b for the night, :drink:

Who the hell thought a 7pm start in December was a good idea? 2pm starts are bad enough.

7pm and 1pm no good , so what do you think, 9am possibly

Confirmed tonight the Christmas Cracker meeting will be on Friday 28th December at the Oak Tree Arena, Somerset. 7pm start 16 riders 20 heats. Should be a good night but bring a coat!

Sod that... My boycott of Somerset Speedway continues

Yeah. We get the message - your personal choice. No need to bring it up on every thread linked to Somerset - they deserve better. Now give it a rest, hey?

Hey,Shadders is entitled to his rant...

And he was treated rather ineptly by one of the stewards, who shall remain nameless,it was the one who lords it by the sponsors area outside the bar....clueless really as to what was happening.

Shane you won`t be there Shadds,I probably won`t be there either though, stupid o`clock alarm call the following day.

It's not about who works during the night, it's about who works during the day but can't get to Somerset as a result.

Your average office worker in the midlands who finishes at half five on Friday is not going to get to Somerset by 7pm.

I appreciate that many are off that week as it's bank holiday week, but many more are off at the weekend!

I wouldn't usually presume to answer for him but I suggest SCB was saying that it's bad enough standing around in the cold on a winter's afternoon, never mind a winter's evening. Let's face it, once the night draws in it's quite conceivable we could be standing around in zero degree conditions!

Like I said, I'm probably going to go anyway but I feel sorry for those that would have loved to have gone but are prevented from doing so because they can't get to Somerset for a 7pm evening start. Perhaps there will be another winter meeting elsewhere, as stated earlier on this thread.

Agree with everything you say about the 20 ht, 16 riders format. I attended every NYC at Newport, and the one at Poole, from 2004 until Newport's last staging and felt the Poole one was the best of the lot, partly because it followed the 16 rider format. I didn't bother with the 2012 NYC because I felt the lineup was poor. I was told by 'Main Man' on this forum that this was simply due to rider availability, despite the fact that Poole put together a cracking line up in 2009. It will be interesting to see what type of line-up Somerset can put together.

In my opinion, to maximise the chance of a good crowd at Somerset, they need to get some riders to tempt fans down from the Midlands. Some Coventry, Birmingham, Wolves or Dudley riders would be a good idea. The likes of Ben Barker, Scott Nicholls or Danny King. What a shame Adam Roynon is injured because you have both Dudley and Bees fans who would have travelled to have supported him.

No, I don't think you do get the message.

Done this to death Youngy, but briefly:

Threatened with violence by a Rebels supporter because I had the balls to ask him not to take photographs of Luke Bowen screaming in agony on the track with a smashed up leg... Harassed by a steward who tried to eject me from the stadium for being threatened by said Rebels fan... Email to Somerset promoter was met with a couldn't care less reply.

Cheers for putting me in the picture :t: Oh dear.. not a good night to say the least then!Sounds like said photographer is one of those kinda people who rubberneck accidents etc..saddos  Thankfully these people and the charming geezer who threatened you are well in the minority in speedway when alls said and done. I dare say i would've objected to that behaviour with a few choice Gaelic expletives myself tbh Shads.. Anyhoo best of luck to the souls who brave the elements to attend the Chrimbo meeting and that it's a success
