Dave_minall
I know it not the end of the season and that Newport have closed down but do you think Swindon will run the New Years Classic meeting. Poole ran it one year, Ben Barker won I believe. I will miss this meeting, I always used to enjoy the brisk trip to Newport to see old friends
Blazeaway
It's at Slough this year
ShadowCaptain
It's at Slough this year Unfortunately, Slough will not be able to promote the Classic meeting. The total lack of rail transport, as Network Rail closes down the entire network, the anticipated closure of most of the local roads for maintenance work, the gigantic B&Q sale at the adjoining warehouse, and the departure of the promoters to Spain with the gate money for the season, have ensured that the meeting would not be viable. The Millennium Stadium is a possibility to host the meeting, as there is no transport system in Cardiff normally, and the inflated hotel prices for the festive season would be the same as the inflated hotel prices for the GP. greyhoundp
It would be nice if the New Year Classic could be staged at somewhere like Coventry or Leicester, central for most of us.

Ray Stadia
I know the last one was Newport, but was it well attended, can anyone say? The reason I ask is, is it worth it?. Speedway will have issues in the close season to deal with, therefore, a winter one off perhaps is not 'central focus'.

The new year classic at newport was always well attended, which is a shame because it was probably their biggest money spinner.

andrewrunagall
And the rest is history. It's true, the New Years Classic and the day after the Cardiff GP were the only thing that really kept Newport going.
barncooseboy
I believe a track close to Newport has applied to run it this coming winter, they should do monster business with hot mulled cider, my only catering complaint their bags of chips are too big to finish

Not after the shameful treatment I received last time.

G the Bee
My thoughts exactly. On a Friday night too, when many will be back at work. Very strange decision if you ask me. One of the other advantages of this being on a Sunday afternoon meant that many people from all over could travel to this without worrying about work commitments etc. If the line up is decent then I will go, but I'm not working that week.
