scarletrider
I think it was a team performance that got Newcastle to the top of the league. The WK is correct, Lemo and Robson were the top points scorers - which is commendable given the injuries and knocks they both carried, both have been consistent over the season. Lindgren has yo-yo'd all season from being very good to very disappointing, while Nedemark took half the season before clicking into gear (most frustrating rider) - and yes both have done well overall. Christian Henry for me has been rider of the season - very consistent and better than I expected. Steve Worrall looked to have made good progress until his injury, while Richie was a sensation until once again injury struck - such a pity! So credit where credit is due, the lads took them to the top of the league, and as the WK says that makes them champions as far as I'm concened. They fell at the last hurdle under the bloody play-off system ( what's the point of having a league if the Champs arn't the team at the top) Well done Diamonds. Pinny
It goes without saying that had lemon and robson rode to their averages then newcastle would of topped the table by some distance Altho if my aunty had a love length she would be my uncle! "The Mackem" And what would you be saying if you finished sixth and won the playoffs ,it wouldnt this crap ,everyone knew the rules before the season and you can say what you like the 2012 premier league champions will be the team that win the playoff ,like it or not
ShadowCaptain
If they had had the sense to call the winners of the play-offs the Premier Champions and the team that finished top of the league the Premier League Winners, there would not have been this problem. You make a good point there SC. Ref frostylion - so everyone knew the rules at the start of the season, what you going to do for anyone not agreeing with it - drop out of speedway, another track gone? Speedway can't afford it! "The Mackem" In answer to frostylion:- If we had won the the title after finishing sixth in the league, then I would feel genuinely sorry for the team that finished top - that they had been robbed. My position on this is unchanged ...... the team at the tiop of any league are the champions, otherwise what is the point of having a season long battle for points? Because it's the rules doesn't make it right or acceptable to a hell of a lot of fans who believe in fairness. Or maybe there is no such thing as fairness in life today! Chewbacca
Surely it is a miracle that Newcastle could finish top as they have to ride 'Rough Park' every week !! A massive disadvantage compared to Scunthorpe who get to ride a billiard smooth, grippy track every week.

Any League Winning Team having lost in the 'Play Offs' has been robbed, be it Newcastle, Redcar, Plymouth or whoever. Saying that they knew the Rules at the start of the Season simply does not wash. It does not make those Rules morally or ethically RIGHT!!

comet49
I think it should be a different trophy, Grand Final, maybe. Putting the league leaders straight into the final deprives them of income. Workington 's rugby league team finished 3rd in their division and beat Whitehaven who finished 4th. Barrow, 2nd beat Doncaster who finished top, but because they finished top (or in the top 2, I think) Doncaster got another chance, and beat Workington at Doncaster. They then played Barrow in the Final. These aren't two leg of course but it does give the higher placed teams a better chance. The top 4 were promoted but that's another thing ain't it. Hopefully Rene can be a Comet next year, never been to Newcastle yet so won't comment on track. "2 outta 3 ain't bad"
