Chris Holder World Champion

Recommended Posts

Take it from me, the vastly expensive and super thin Speedway Star stopped stopped "mattering" in manys speedway fans lives years ago ... you get more info from Twitter & Facebook plus the clubs/riders website than you do out of that overpriced toilet paper :approve:

Er, I think the point was that Chris Holder is World Champion, not that Speedway Star matters.

Good decision by the ref in my opinion. It wasn't neccesary to make an exclusion and he took the best option. Bottling it? I suppose some people could see it that way, but it made a lot more sense to have the title decided on track - and the differeing poinions on here show that it was far from a clear cut thing over who was at fault.

As to whose fault it was - well if Holder had been excluded it would have been understandable and if Pedersen had been excluded then it wouldn't have been so I guess I'd say it was more Holder's fault. But all 4 back was the best call and, in any other race or any other meeting, there wouldn't have even been a debate about it.

Craig Ackroyd clearly didn't want to be remembered in the same way as Tore Kittleson either. Can't say I blame him.

Doesn't the nature of a Grand Prix series mean that this race was as important as the 3rd race of the 4th GP, Or the first race of the first GP? I'm not sure as a fan I would be happy that decisions werent being made in all races (or even specific) so riders could decide it for themselves on track........ (but werent they on track already anyway?)

All 4 Back is a very nice 'rule' for a ref to fall back on...... i'm sure refs of other sports are very envious of such a nice cushion....... but it still needs to be a bonafide situation to use it.....

I've said elsewhere that no one likes to get in the way during a title battle .....but in his efforts to not be involved and be remembered for getting involved in the title run in ...the ref still managed to do just that

Taken from Chris's own website ...

Both Holder and Pedersen were up against each other in the second semi-final, and in a tight first bend, the Dane fell after being nudged off his bike by the Australian

So thats solved the arguments ... Chris SHOULD have been excluded :approve:

No it hasn't. Nobody really is disputing Chris nudged Nicki. It's whether there should have been an exclusion or not.

THANKS for those kind words

Philip ... the Star has been going downhill for years now, not ALL the SS fault the sport itself has not helped. The content is poor and as stated can be found via many sources online for free with the odd exception. Its being going thru the motions for a few years now. Sorry if that hurts but thats how I see it and I was a full time subscriber for around 15 years but in the end it was more out of duty than anything, indeed there were some issues I did not even read.

YOU are quite entitled to your opinion but fortunately thousands don't agree and vote as such every week.

However, what I do object to is your choice of words. Overpriced toilet paper, vastly expensive and super thin. I doubt very much that you have any idea how much ut costs to produce magazines these days, we don't use toilet paper and, for the record, by December the 52 issues of Speedway Star published in 2012 will have included a record number of pages.

There is far too much vitriol displayed on this forum, which is why so many treat it with such disdain. And what on earth has this go9t to do with Chris Holder being World Champion?

So, back on topic, I think he will be a great World Champion. He has matured enormously on and off the track, is young, has personality, is photogenic and a real racer.

The Speedway Star is no different than any other publication, people buy it for the "habit, ease, comfort, tradition, portability" etc

Most magazine sales, especially specialist niche titles are all in the same situation.

Traditional magazine circulation of most types are dwindling, thats why publishers launch magazines run them for 12 months and knock them on the head!

Look at the circulation figures of magazines over the last 25 years amazing deduction in figures!

Radio Times, Tv Times deregulated and massive drop in circulation

Dandy, Beano (Dandy has ceased!)

Lady, Punch, Private Eye even Viz comic has dropped.

Tastes change, Internet coverage, 24 hour TV, computer games etc has all had an impact.

I am suprised how some Magazines keep going!

Good luck Speedway Star its a tough market (As can be seen by this forum) I read mine in Tesco if I go in there! lol sorry!

Just thank your lucky stars you're not Australian, Philip. We put up with it on a daily basis on here, but we're determined not to let the antics of a small but extremely vociferous and misguided minority get in the way of our mutual enjoyment of Speedway.

Oh give it a rest.. FFS. You get grief on here because of the rubbish you spout, not because you're an Aussie (although I thought I read from others you were Welsh).

congrats again to Chris Holder, but does anyone know what perks he gets for being world champion?IF he gets the chance to spread the speedway word on chat shows, opening of varoius buildings,or even represent speedway at globel motorsport shows i think hes the man to do speedway proud, because he doesnt speak like a normal Aussie,he even puts himself down sometimes, thats unheard of in an aussie!!!! and speaks well .So in general hes a breath of fresh air for the sport, but will speedway make the most of him to promote the sport i wonder!!!

GOOD point. When Gollob won he was feted right across Poland, appeared on all the top TV chat shows, etc, and raised the profile of speedway considerably even in a country where it is already upscale. He transcended the boundaries of sport.

Contrast that with Greg Hancock whose victory didn't even register on the Richter scale outside of the speedway community in a small pocket of Southern California.

Probably a good chance that Chris Holder will get some recognition back home. Motorcycle racing is popular in Oz but doubt that it will be nationwide. Won't cause many waves here, though. Speedway would have to be an Olympic sport and GB to win gold for that to happen. Pinch me, I'm dreaming ...
