Pinjar Park, Perth Wa Opening Night Oct 6th.

Recommended Posts

An early start to season 2012 with Saturday night October 6th the chosen date to get your first methanol fix for the summer. As in past seasons the opening night will once again feature the popular DOUBLE HEADER event featuring the Chum Taylor & Dennis Nash Foundation Cups for their respective divisions of Solo’s & Sidecars.

Big fields of both sidecars and solos are expected after the winter break comes to an end. Current WA solo champion Frank Smart will start favourite for the Chum Taylor Cup but will face some strong attention from the hard charging Dan Winchester, evergreen veterans Trevor Williams & Glen Gordon, Kale Ballantyne, the Bunbury flyer Bob King & the ever improving youngsters in Doug Scoble & Joey Furfaro.

At the time of print some 10 sidecar crews have nominated for the Dennis Nash Foundation Cup event with defending 2011 cup champion Scott Charsley taking on local riders Rod Brown, Ricky Wright, John Lowe, Ralph McQueen & Vince Giannocelli all in the mix in what promises to be an absolute cracker event. What a start to the new season with a record 10 of the states best speedway sidecars nominating for the season opener. When you talk about success stories in sport the local Perth sidecar boys are right up there. Two seasons back they were on the ropes with 2 or 3 outfits at best circulating around Pinjar, now two years down the track they've regrouped and coming back at a rapid rate.

Other racing divisions featuring on the night will be the junior & master Carter Class 250 solos, some of the state’s best young junior speedway riders and the biggest group of Pee Wee stars this side of the Nullarbor Plain.

All proceeds from the Chum Taylor & Dennis Nash Foundation Cup meetings go to eligible SMCWA riders toward their travel costs for interstate title meetings. This has enabled some very talented young West Australian riders complete at the highest national level since the Foundation first started some years back.
