Lakeside 2013

Recommended Posts

Oh yes, I remember that too. The night when Poole's 'golden boy' was unbelievably let back into the re-run, and then undeservedly won it.

Not to mention his previous race of course when he decided to side-swipe AJ - which could have resulted in an awful injury.

Unfortunately, Darcy Ward only cares about one thing........himself.

I think the last line is a little harsh. Let's not forget that Darcy was the only rider to ride in the Rico Memorial meetings in both Poland and the UK , all at his own time and expense. Every body else did one or the other (not that I am criticising them) but to me that is not the actions of someone who only cares about himself, and whatever else Darcy does we have to give credit where it's due, and clearly Emma appreciated it so that should be good enough for the rest us.

With regard to the incident you are referring to I think at any other meeting Darcy would have been excluded but given the type of meeting it was i.e. the Rico Memorial at Lakeside it was really about good speedway more than anything else. Darcy had been the star performer in a star studded field so personally I think the ref did the right thing on that particular occasion in bending the rules a little to have Darcy back in the Final. Personal opinion of course but in memory of Lee it was IMO the right thing to do to have 4 class acts in the final and not 3.

Well done to the Lakeside Promotion for securing a 2-year deal in this current economic recession and with TV coverage in some doubt for next year!! Great news for the club. :t:

I agree and think the 2 year deal is great and shows great faith in the club.I am just not keen on the new name.

New sponsorship deal for Hammers.

http://www.lakesidehammers.co/

Perhaps this explains why the website is suddenly saying how happy the club is about having early season Sky broadcasts from Lakeside now there is a new major sponsor to have TV exposure, when in the recent past Sky has always been a bit of a pain because of the way it hits attendances on a Monday.

Anyway, great news for the club especially as Ruggles and Jeffery have just been announced as Community Partners working with the club in schools etc.

I wonder whether this latest sponsorship is an encouraging sign that the Sky contract will continue next year. Anyone putting a lot of money into a club on a two year deal would need to be reasonably confident of continuing T.V exposure.

I think also, that coming on top of Swindon's announcement of a new major sponsor it is good news for the whole sport that commercial sponsors. can still be found in these tough economic times.. Maybe this so-called "joke sport" has a bit more credibility in the wider commercial world than some of the BSF doom and gloom merchants would have us believe. Lets all hope Wolves can follow suit and get a new major sponsor sorted.

Talking to Lewis the other day and he says mentally and physically he is in the best shape he has ever been in so hoping this to be a big season for him at Lakeside.

It would be good to see him realise his undoubted potential. I hope he does.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just in from a freezing cold Lakeside! My Cousin was have a spin at a training day so I popped along. Along with all The Dragons Bridger, Watt, Nilsson and Mear were blowing away the cobwebs.

The track looks much different up close doesn't look half as tight as it does from the top of the bowl. Very bumpy along the back straight though.

Just good to hear and smell the bikes again!

Swidders was there as well! Bridger certainly looked on the gas. I thought it was very good of Jon Cook to invite the Peterborough boys to practice at Lakeside and nice to see Bjerre and Sundstrom take him up on the offer.

The Lakeside website has just announced new associate sponsors Skidmarques, tyre and alignment specialists in addition to new main sponsors Vortex, announced a couple of weeks ago. Before that Ruggles and Jeffrey were announced as community partners and Hagon shocks as training partners so despite the economy and question mark over Sky the club has been fortunate on the sponsorship front.

I heard that Skidmarques came as guest at the Wolves meeting last year and between them donated a tidy sum to the Lee Richardson fund and were so impressed with PK's 18-point maximum that night they apparently donated about £2000 worth of tyres for his car (that must be some car!). Encouraging news for Lakeside fans after a disappointing week.
