dantodan
just checked the weather forecast for the return legs at Newcastle on sunday. Its looking like an overcast but DRY day so we might just get all 4 matches completed. I will be interested to hear what size the crowd is tonight
Arson fire
Two defeats, work cut out on Sunday....no disrespect to Johnson but surely there is better out there we could have used, never going to win anywhere with a 5 man team really...well done the rebels. NJC71
Battling effort from the Diamonds against a full strength Somerset side. Ultimately the 5-1's conceded in heat 15 could be crucial in terms of points difference and any chance of pulling the deficit back in the cup match. Huge respect to Ned for taking 14 rides and scoring in all but a couple of them. Tremendous effort. Unfortunately as harsh as it sounds after a tough double header we have yet again lacked points from the heat leaders in the big heats and that will probably cost us along with of course the injuries to Richie & Steve. We've done amazingly well to be so competitive without those two. Had neither been injured I'm convinced we would have won a bagful of trophies this season but I guess others could say the same. Still, we've done just enough to give us a fighting chance on Sunday. We'll need all 3 points from the PL match. Got to say this business of a mini-league must be scrapped. Takes too much of the drama away. We could be awaiting the result of a match we're not involved in to find out if we make the final.

As for the other (PL PLay-off) Somerset got 3 points in the Mini League and we got none. I would expect it to be roles reversed (i.e. Newc 3 Som 0) on Sunday. So we need to win the Playoff match by 7 or more and by 11 or more to win on aggregate on the KO Cup. Not impossible if we ride like we usually do at Brough. As you say, we need a decent number 6 and that could be Starke for me as he is getting stronger at home each week. Suppose it depends if he has an IOW booking. Boris might come into it as well as he was the only heat winner at Somerset when it was called off. Best of luck to the team on Sunday and hope the weather is OK. can we use any NL rider to replace Steve or just those who average less than him in NL?? I think it is a NL rider. I O W at Mildenhall on Sunday (another double header!!!). NL Rider who hasn't got a PL average over 3.00, is how I believe the rules read regarding NL guests, but I could be wrong! NJC71
For a one off match why not go for Adam? Know's the track like the back of his hand and if he gates is capable of getting points. It's not the future but I would sooner have him for such a big couple of meetings than an NL novice who doesn't know the track and won't score. We are talking about Kyle who can fly around Brough and Perry who is no mug either. We need someone who can hit the ground running.
scarletrider
For once the Diamonds three heat leaders all fell below their usual standard of points scoring - it could be costly! So all three need to dig deep on Sunday at Brough ....... they can do it, but there will be some frazzled and worried fans among the crowd at Newcastle. Come on Diamonds, dig deep and turn up the gas for the fans. "The Mackem" For a one off match why not go for Adam? oldtimer
As an OAP I thought £20 for two cracking matches on a well prepared track was excellent value for money and well done the Somerset management. In front of a bumper crowd, the track was slick but with 30 races and unreliable weather that was the right prep, and it produced passing inside and on the wide outside line, close racing and plenty of passing, a tribute to the track staff. Somerset had Cory Gathercole and James Holder standing by to cover any first match injuries, I assume they did not do this for free and how many other promotions would have been smart enough to have made this provision. In the Play Off match Rebels threw away some points early on, with Jesper and Claus tape offences, as judging by there subsequent performance in this match they would probably have won their races. Tom unfortunately got in the way of Claus (off 15m) in heat 4, but Tom looked on the pace all night and deserved more than he scored. In the Prem Trophy match Jesper and Claus couldn't get out of the starts and were totally different riders to the first encounter, fortunately Alex came to the rescue with three wins. James won a race in each match but acted angrily with himself after every defeat. Jason and Alex were awarded riders of the night for the respective matches, Jason deseved it for his team riding alone. Apart from Johnson all the Diamonds rode well and Nedermark scored 21 plus 5 bonus from 14 rides. I thought his form was tailing off at the end of the first match but he bounced back winning his first two races in the second match. Thought Alex was lucky in heat 8 as he went for a narrow gap and clipped Nedermark who fell but Nedermark excluded. On the food front, I had the pastie mash and gravy even though it is still crossed off the menu, so if you like your pastie just ask. With a large crowd it makes you wonder why it is not like that every week, with people queuing outside at start time. Even in a recession, people were willing to pay more than the usual Friday night price, because in return it was better value for money with 30 races and on paper the Diamonds would be entertaining opposition. The conclusion is, get the price and VFM verses entertainment ratio correct and people will come. I also think speedway under floodlights is always more exciting. Interesting opinion pablo! For what it's worth-Robson is top points scorer over all meetings including topping the away scores. Second is Lemon again including away meetings. Nedermark was trailing well in last place (excluding the reserves).. Only since moving to no 7 has he hit big scores on a regular basis - thanks to taking six or seven rides. Even so he is still in last place among the top five Diamonds. So I dont see how he has been the saviour in most away meetings. I'm not knocking any of the riders, but the facts are there if you care to add up the points per rider. "The Mackem"
Starman2006
Stupid way to run a play off system if you ask me. So i am assuming its run on the same line as as a league meeting and Somerset can gain a point at Newcastle? IF, that is the case then they have a dam good chance. IMO the league is more important than the Cup, but need to go up their in a positive frame of mind, to win the meeting. They just want trophies although the League is the big one.
