Mildenhall V I.o.w 23rd Sept ....off

Was about to suggest they might do what clubs have done before in the past and instead of a double header have a single match count for both competitions. However, as i logged in the press officer's statement appeared.

Hopefully the fact that Mildenhall are prepared to stage two seperate meetings (not sure how much interest riders or fans have in the National Trophy?) is a heartwarming sign that the club are doing well, very much bucking the national trend.

A double header would beg the question which match comes first the important play-off semi-final (in case rain arrives) or the 'trophy' match. If the latter that would mean forcing fans to watch a match they may prefer not too lol. Pretty much joking to a fair extent on that last comment and also of course National League clubs stage far fewer meetings than the higher leagues so therefore have an appetite for as many matches they can get?.

I planned to give today's meet a miss anyway in preference to next week , even more so after I saw the weather forecast for today !

Would make a great deal of sense to make it a double header on the 30th with the play off meet 1st as originally planned .

Why would anybody in their right mind make IOW come back a yet again when today has been cancelled and 2 meetings need to be completed against them asap ?

Lets hope common sense reigns , although unlikely as this is speedway after all !

Sounds like a good idea mp, what other clubs have done this before? I can't recall any!

I know one example, and it was a Cup Final..!

Went to Arlington in, gulp, late October 1974 for Eastbourne vs. Birmingham, which as well as being the first leg of the KOC Final doubled also as a BL Div 2 match!!!!

In THIS case though, can't see why the NT match couldn't be re-arranged after the play-offs & Cup Final..? Could - if things go well for the FTs - be a celebration type meeting AND quite possibly a decider for the Trophy too... Which IF things had gone less well be a piece of silverware to finish the season with..

1st September 2005 - Peterborough v Eastbourne ELA followed by Peterborough v Eastbourne ELB!

Yes that's a double header as was Boston vs. Cleveland x 2 at the NA in '07... The question was (I think) about classifying a single match as TWO different fixtures... I suspect that's happened far less frequently...

As i was typing the post i was trying to think of specific fixtures. I'm thinking particularly of the 70's! I was a child when i used to watch Belle Vue at Hyde Road. I've got a vague memory of something like a 'Northern Trophy' match also counting as a League fixture, or some similar combination. I was more thinking on the lines more recent times not involving Belle Vue. Speedway wouldn't be alone in doing this as international football has done it too.

Cheers i was just about to point that out.
