Taken from speedwayGB site

teams and groups have been announced for the Premier League play-offs.

As follows:

GROUP 1

Newcastle

Leicester

Somerset

GROUP 2

Edinburgh

Scunthorpe

Workington

The teams in each group will ride against each other home and away (total 4 meetings). The winners of each group will then contest the Grand Final over two legs. The winner of the Grand Final will be declared 2012 Premier League Champions.

Providing Somerset have a full and fit team, they have a great chance.

I still can not grasp why the hell we picked leicester and somerset/

Leicester and Somerset must rate as the best chance of away points....assuming we win at home, we are crap at Armadale and worky are good at Brough...plus the chance to do double headers v Somerset I suppose...time will tell but it's going to be a massive ask with using r/r in double headers....one injury and it's bye bye

But if they do it like that it will mean the last 2 meetings will be meaningless as the monarchs will be through by then :)

After the meeting had finished on friday, i went to the pits to voice my concerns over the play-offs. I mentioned that if Newcastle picked Leicester, we picked Edinburgh, they picked Workington & that left Somerset - 3 friday teams with longest to travel. He said we needed to finish top to pick Leicester for travel & away support but if Newcastle picked Leicester, which he expected, we would go for Worky. All meetings against any in the top 6 would be hard, irrespective wether injured riders were getting back to fitness, ie; Howarth, Roynon, Cook & Tabaka.

Just noticed that the Edinburgh v Workington play-off match is on Friday, October 19th.

Surely this is too late for a group match?

I notice Somerest have October 19th as their reserved date for the final if they get through. Surely there needs to be a deadline before October 19th for the group matches?

I wish I shared your faith in the British weather ;)

It is risky, though. If group matches are still being staged on the weekend of Oct 19th-21st, the earliest the finals will take place is the following weekend i.e the last weekend of the season. Depending on the tracks involved in the final, some of which have other use / planning resrictions, it may be one and only one shot to stage their leg of the final.

All the best

Rob
