Pere Ubon
This "exciting" end of season competition is set to start next week. Assuming (and hoping) that the Comets don't fall by the wayside, Ipswich will get the first pick. Given that they can't pick eighth place Glasgow, they will presumably want to avoid fellow Thursday tracks Redcar and Sheffied, which means a group of Ipswich, Berwick and Rye House or Plymouth. The other group is therefore Glasgow, Redcar and Sheffield. Seems like a real money spinner???!!!!!!

Berwick yesterday had already announced PLCT fixtures v Redcar and Glasgow so Berwick won't be in Ipswich's group! Will be Ipswich, Sheffield and either Rye House or Plymouth. Agree, a nonsense competition to see who comes 7.8.9.10.11,&12. To finish off the season and help- the clubs finances, a series of local derbies, up here Berwick,Glasgow,Newcastle & Edinburgh. It could be called 'The Northern Wooden Spoon'.
crescent girl
Let's be positive! Let's look on it as two or three nights of speedway entertainment. Let's enjoy two or three 'bonus' evenings of watching racing in the company of our friends before five cold dark months without speedway. I have a feeling we will have longer than 5 months without speedway up here in Glasgow , hope i am wrong though.

Ipswich dont have 3 free dates if they progress in either cup. Also what chance of no rain in October?

Thats why i would go for a local derby competition, we get speedway, and because it is local the clubs get a bonus with better crowds. squall
Here's a thought. Instead of calling for the competition to be scrapped, and talk doom and gloom, how about we take notice of what's currently happening to our sport, get down to our local track, and support our teams? I'd rather watch a meaningless 9th vs 11th end of season meeting than have no speedway at all.
Mr Snackette
Lets face it, it's no more or less exciting / relevant than any of the other meaningless challenges that litter the season....Anglian Cup, War of the Roses,Tyne Tweed Trophy et all!! As someone else has already commented.....perhaps less really is more!!
arnieg
I don't know whether to be relieved that the name of Jack Young is no longer associated with such a half-hearted end of season competition OR disappointed that the memory of Jack Young has been so casually disregarded in the re-vamping of what was the Young Shield

crescent girl
Glasgow roll into Shielfield Park on Saturday, September 29th. Come one, come all........... Return fixture is the following day at Ashfield -- although some out-dated sites are showing that Sunday being the Ashfield Classic. Be assured, the Bandits will be trying very hard to make both matches Classics!
