Swindon 2013

Going back in time, speedway was always about affordability. Back in the early 70's it cost £1.70 adult admission to watch the Stars and a 8 page program (16 sides of information) cost 10 pence. So the cost of watching the sport was 17 times more then the program. Now, the Program is £3.00 and admission is £17.00, are we saying the program is more important then the racing?. Soon , at this rate, it'll cost most to buy a program then it is to watch the racing........

Wages in the 70s were a lot lower than they are today . Think I was on about £25.00 befor tax just out of my apprentership

Went to the Bob Kilby meeting tonight and it will take a while for me to thaw out. It may just be me, as I was wrapped up like Nanook of the North, but do the bikes sounds different this year? The definitely sounded muffled to me with my hat and scarf on so can't be sure

Did you hang around long enough to see Scott climb on the rostrum? :D

Not so poor as you would have us believe, is he?

TBF, Steve never claimed Scott was poor. What he claimed is he was taking the piss and not doing as well as he should have done. This result may suggest he was right but last seasons average would suggest thats just his level now.

I thought that and wasn't wearing a hat. Track looked good, but very poor crowd, probably the worst I've seen there. I reckon it's only the diehards that can afford to attend every week now. Think I'll be selective in meetings I attend this year. Those 2 in July/August when the suns shining :t:

Good to see the Kilby family. Should have been a lot more fans there with that strong line-up, and no Elite trophy presentation?

Bikes did sound quieter than last year, or it may have been memories of the noise level of 2011.

Most races a bit processional, then came heat 15, the best of the night with NKI and N Pedersen continually passing each other.

Hans, Mads, Scotty and NKI all raced well and Hans was unlucky to get pushed out on the first bend in the final.

Now waiting for the turn out of the whole team next week against the Brits.

Just to clarify - it was too cold to wait for the rostrum. Scott actually rode very well - winning his first three rides quite easily. You have to remember though that this was a season opener and most were just blowing the cobwebs away so not truly representative. I agree with AO - very processional apart from heat 15 which was great. Zengi looked very poor though - so hopefully he is just getting dialled in and will do well this year. Batch had his usual start to the season too - a string of thirds.

That's a fair comment. It was just intended as a bit of a wind up as i know how much Steve loves Scott. :D

B**ger wasn't that cold last night! Not a bad meeting, poor crowd. I have to say that I can't get too excited about individual meetings but agree re Heat 15. No-one has mentioned Heat 10 when, from where I was standing, Nicki gave Tai a shove as they went over the line to start the last lap and caused him to fall nastily but got away with it because the meeting had to be whipped along due to the curfew (a blessing in disguise bearing in mind the temperature!)

However, I do want to start a debate about the increase in car parking charges! I admit that it appears that entry prices have been pegged at £17 this year (despite the inflated price for last night's meeting) but with 50p extra for a programme and a 50% increase in the price of car parking there has still been an increase at a time when other businesses are having to be very price sensitive in difficult markets. But back to the car parking! Can anyone justify to me why I have to pay to have a bunch of numpties direct me to a space which at any other time is free (i.e. Greyhounds and Market-so forget the health and safety rationalisation) and then disappear as soon as we are all settled, so that there is not one numpty at the end of the meeting available to help deal with the carnage of exiting all at the same moment?

I know that the Speedway Club says that it is nothing to do with them but I would be interested to hear from anyone who knows who is responsible for the stewards, as I would, seriously, like to contact them to air my views. Is it SBC, if so any contact details would be welcome. With things like this on top of the removal of Simon Stead, who on last night's showing would have done no worse in this year's team than Edward Kennett, I seriously begin to fall out with the management!!!
