EnglishRoundabout
Totally disagree ER. Bomber has gone downhill for the last 2 years, at Belle Vue , Coventry this year and the G.P.s. Can't even win the British Championship. Think if we signed him, we would have a 2011 situation on our hands. In fact someone on the Poole 2013 thread (post 394) on here has said he is way behind when everyone else is at the first corner. Even Coventry fans have been complaining about him this year. I don't share your enthusiasm. Fair enough Red Robin, although i think Bomber's average did improve on last year. Without the GP's as a distraction and the big fast Blunsdon track to race on, he would be a fine replacement for Hans i reckon. Didn't do so bad in the ELRC whilst missing the gate in every race! orion
What, like he had in the GPs?? Rather win league titles that worry about how Riders get on in Gp's like this year

BuzzCagney
Hans is, in fact, only 31! Still plenty of life, and clearly spoken English, in him yet ER. Thou i have my doubts about Harris thre are some plus factors ...No Gp's, a track he can race on and also the mighty Rosco to help out . Harris has had massive downs in his speedway life but a move away from Cov might just give him the spark he needs to be decent if not great . Rosco didn't exactly help him in the GP's did he. Still, i suppose Alun did get the Adver talking about Harris. Not that any of its readership was interested.
SPEEDY69
Harris did have better results in the GP this year than Andersen though - I think 2 semi-finals including 1 final whereas Andersen just made the one semi-final.
thecoombdog
Really can't understand that Red Robin. Harris is a fantastic racer who would be 100% for the club. Great potential to improve at Blunsdon, English, totally committed and would provide great entertainment both home and away. Without his GP commitments i reckon he has the ability to reach an 8 .5 to 9 point average. Don't get me wrong, Hans was brilliant for us this year, but he is around 36 years old and probably seen his best days now. Bomber on the other hand is reaching his peak. He just needs to get some gating lessons from Zengi!! I honestly don't see how you think he can average 9 points a meeting! His average is always around 7.50-8. Never improves. Thats just him. Great entertainment in his 2-3 Blunsdon appearances each season but so is Mads! Wouldn't want him back though. He would be a terrible signing as a number 1 and even if we could fit him in the team at 5, I would rather have Batch than him.

Fair point, well made, but my preference remains very much with Hans. Both as a rider and as a person. EDIT- just taken a look at the final GP standings and Hans finished above Farmer Harris. So your point wasn't actually that good at all, just selective. Edited November 6, 2012 by BuzzCagney
theblueboy
I think people are too quick to castigate on this forum. People had reservations about Hans being in our team this time last year making exactly the same points about Hans as some are re Harris. As I stated earlier, Bomber has lacked confidence and speed this year. That is not in question. He has no added distractions this year as Orion has stated and if comments made by riders such as Doyle as 'being the best move he's made' then we could be saying the same about Bomber. Better riders than Bomber have suffered downturns in form and average but it doesn't necessarily mean that they can't get it back.
dabbsjoe
thing is though Hans (for all the rolling at the gate) is a great captain and a number 1 in an Elite League team. the same can't be said for Harris.

Who said Harris is going to be our number 1 or captain ? . Harris in most people's eyes has had a poor season, and thou Hans has been a great Captain he's only just ahead of Harris on this year's figures so given that with no Gp's and a new track he is almost to pass the mark that Hans got this year . BuzzCagney
I wouldn't say thats a certainty, Orion. And to your point Blueboy many Swindon fans wanted Hans at Swindon for many years and were delighted with his signing. Who'd have thought that a team basically thrown together would go on to be Champions! Anyway, i've made my last comment on Harris. I just hope these rumours prove to be false. Exactly the point I am trying to make! There is a lot of symmetry between Hans and Harris. I was one of those who wanted Hans here and would like to see him as no 1 again next year. Harris is more than good enough to up his average - if he is here - I wouldn't be disappointed with him at 5.
Hobnob Smith
the difference is that Hans is a better captain and can team ride and i think a cleverer rider than Harris who is not so good at team riding and using his noggin

If the rumour is true that Beefykeefy has mentioned, i would be chuffed to have Bomber on board. Not as a number one, granted. But riding at five, predominantly with the reserves, he would be terrific. I wouldn't bet against Chris having his best ever Elite league season in the colours of the Elite League Champions. stratton
If the silly double points rule is not changed, surely it will be (wouldn't hold my breath) would Swindon consider a top heavy side. What I mean if they had 3 and a half heat leaders we will always be good at home or would fans not want that.?By saying this this years side was a terrific 1 to 7 even Robin was really good and later Frank.Just think to do that again with a 1 to 7 solid is a big ask and relying on no injuries. adam74
Harris is a certainty for Swindon IMO. It's clearly obvious with his links to Rosco etc. Might not be a bad thing, solid second heat leader. I'm not sure... It's funny someone mentioned Hans and money. Someone said to him after the match at Poole ask for a pay rise next year, and his instant comeback was its not about the money. How true I have no idea. Going by his antics in the bar after winning the title, and his posts on Twitter - he wants to be a Robin next year.
