Comets In Trouble

.... and watch the fans completely dissappear....

In other words have meaningless challenge matches and individual events, which supporters don't want.

Mix it with sidecars and/or short track.... that'll be like Australia then.

Speedway DOES need to change, but for heavens sake, change it for the better.

Why would an individual event need to be meaningless? I am sure there are many people on this forum that just want to see 4 speedway bikes go round a speedway track, with some good close racing and they will be entertained. The alternative could be no speedway if things do not alter. It would appear from what people are saying on many threads, is league racing is not doing it for them and for many reasons. How would you make league racing cheaper? Reduce the number of meetings? Reduce riders pay? Regionalise all tracks to reduce travelling costs?

It is a big deal and needs a lot of thought, but let's hope it isn't swept under the carpet and next season doesn't open on a wing and a prayer.

Regarding Australia, my understanding is a lot of the tracks are prepared for midget cars and they mix midget cars with speedway. The tracks are a clay type material which speedway riders find difficult to ride, especially after the cars have been on. For me, I would be happy to see short track and/or sidecars as an added attraction. However, I accept time could be an issue with some tracks.

Any other mix of motorsport with speedway would turn me right off.

I've no interest in motorsports. Speedway is a very stark exception.

I'm not too fussed about where we finish in the league, as long as it is not bottom.

Clearly I would love us to win it, and that is a great dream/aim to have.

Having no league to contest would signal the death of any sport.

We do need drastic change, but one that is going to progress, not regress.

well how i read the centre green interview, thats it for the comets unless someone steps in and takes us over..

Keith said if we could get 1000 every week he's happily make it £10 entry but can't afford to make a loss every week, was stated only around 700 there tonight.

1000 @ £10 is not as good as 700 @ £15 so surely if this new, higher attendance can be maintained it'll be ok.

Berwick website has Berwick at Glasgow next Sunday the 29th ? unless things have changed and they are doing 2meetings in 1day which seems unlikely but not impossible if start times were altered

1000 x 10 = 10,000

700 x 15 = 10,500

The speedwaygb site only gives Workington v Ipswich for next weekend and no other home fixtures for that period.

1000 x 10 = 10,000

700 x 15 = 10,500

But the 1000 is 300 more or programmes, food and drink etc assuming worky get money from them (and taking into account not everyone will buy something there). I know few tracks make nothin outta bar and burger van. Question is would the extra 300 ppl spend over 500 to make it worth while.

Is it all just desperate measures of a desperate man?

I think reducing admission will make little difference, if it looks a good match you will attend, if it's poor opposition and r/r and guests you may not. There was a match at Somerset this season where one rider was injured and 3 were at an under 21 competion which left the home team with just 3 of their signed riders, I would not have attended if it was free admission as it was not worth the petrol cost. Give the fans good racing and they will attend. Never been to Worky but what's the match night presentation (music, interviews etc) like at Worky, so many tracks ignore this and it's 2 hours boredom and track grading broken up by 15 minutes racing.
