Comets In Trouble

Derwent

Recommended Posts

Whilst this may be good news, we all know what happens when fathers of ex-riders take over their local track (newport..)

lets hope this time things work out for the better.

The only thing in common between the Branneys and the Malletts is a**eholes.

The Branneys each HAVE one, both of the Malletts ARE ones of the highest order.

Hopefully something positive will come out of it.

Apart from noting the ridiculously early naming of new prospective owners (I guess it gives Denham someone else to point at, if the inevitable happens) before they've even met & discussed money, I see the article states "Denham this week revealed he was pulling out of the club at the end of the season and was looking for somebody to take it over".

Strange, as all the other articles this week and reports of his speech last Saturday were "get to the end of the season & see where we are".

harry and craig have turned the northside training track around and saved it from closure and maybe they can do the same for the comets but lets just see how much keith denham wants the comets to continue if he is asking too much for a club hes said hes gonna close then just like the mallets he dosnt want anybody else running "his club"

keiths hart was in it but his atitude was all wrong for it to succed

Agree he put a lot of money into it.Seemed too get upset with riders and fans all to easily from what you read.

To be fair, I think Harry gave an interview before the whole takeover had been talked through with all concerned, and their agreed decision formulated.

Possibly their possible involvement was leaked too early.

I understand Lady S has said Moss Bay Metals are not taking over and she will know :-)

I have to say when I read the story I truely thought this is fantastic news for Workington Comets and thats not just saying because anyone keeping it going would be welcome. I say it because I belive they Branney's/Roper's would be fantastic for the Comets. They love there speedway and are very very nice people who would run the club the way it should be.

The deal would have to be right for any new owner to step in but I feel that Mr Denham will be asking far far to much money for a club on its knees.

Come on Susan you know you wanna

my personal opinion is that a deal will not happen because keith denham will not sell the club unless its a very high price

after all what is for sale a couple off tractors some track grading equipment starting tapes but as for assets lets face it who is contracted to workington nermark, ingalls ,charles wright the 2 branneys ? stoney not sure if theres any others maybe kyle howarth became a asset aswell

but if keith shuts shop before selling all the assets become the property of the bspa so theres not any real value there is there

Poor, poor meeting, with a very poor crowd, which it has been for most of this season. The aast two meetings the track preperation had been a lot better, but last night, my feeling was, it had slipped back to that familiar gate and go track, the outside becoming very loose, hence the amount of riders coming off looking for a way around on the outside line.

The decision in the reduced entrance fee really does not make sound financial sense, the idea that the decline in the gate is due to a shortage of money is solely the problem is a nonsense. I fear the main problem started with an unbalanced team at the beginning of the season, combined with bad track preperation for most of season resulted in the fan base becoming disengaged with the support. Whatever the break even crowd is, probably about 700, if you reduce the entry fee by one third then the crowd has to increase by a third to around 900 and they must be paying fans. I doubt that the excersise has worked as the increased crowd has been achieved by under 16s getting in free, resulting in a decrease of income at the gate by one third. in essence the paying crowd remains the same but they pay less and the club is further out of pocket. If I put together a financial package together like this for my employers, I fear I would soon be in the ranks of the unemployed. My advice to the promotion is have a chat to someone who understands finances.

Post taken from theBerwick thread, goes to show that we are not the only one's struggling for numbers and reducing entry fees to £10 alone does not solve the problem indeed this approach may only accelerate a clubs decline. Lets hope that some solution can be found during the closed season. The BSPA need to stop trying to get one over on each other and start to work together for the good of the sport
