Andrew
http://www.thestar.c...group-1-5065795 SUNDAY could be the day for speedway next year as Sheffield attempt to win back fans after a troubled season both on and off the track. As reported on Tuesday, club bosses are considering a change of race night after a season of poor crowds, with the Thursday race night possibly playing a part. And it isn’t just the Tigers who have struggled this season, with as many six Premier League clubs saying they are open to selling to new owners. Although Sheffield aren’t in that situation, they are still keen to have a more fruitful 2013 and bounce back. “Like just about everyone else, it has been a difficult year and we have to find ways of attracting supporters to speedway,” said Tigers chief Neil Machin. “We are looking at admission prices and other ways to get people to come along. One is obviously developing a winning team and that has been a major part of this season’s problems but the other is our race day. “Thursday’s are not ideal with all the other fixtures around Europe and it has caused us problems, undoubtedly. Sunday is one of the days we are looking at, but we are thinking about everything. “There are no Elite League fixtures on a Sunday because they run in Poland so that would make things an awful lot easier, so of course it’s under consideration. We have a lot of discussions ahead with our landlords and a change of race day is on the agenda. I must stress that this is only something we are looking at and although we may take it a stage further, it’s very early stages for us right now.” Premier League bosses are facing up to the biggest and most important AGM for years next month with most of the league losing money. DAVEK
Strange how a certain team in Scotland is trying to move away from Sunday racing to improve crowds. Whoever new supporters the club attracts will surely be negated by the ones they may lose.
graz gp
Get the team right , and Thursday will be ok like it as been for years. If it's Sunday no thank's.
Pantherite
Indeed Get the team right , and Thursday will be ok like it as been for years. If it's Sunday no thank's. Indeed. Get rid of the Longtrack GP'ers (Hall and Franc)!
squall
If Sheffield run on Sunday's then that's me screwed unless I quit my job! Moving to Sunday's could gain 300 new fans, but lose 350...
graz gp
Totaly agree. We lost alot of fan's because the team wasn't good enough. Tiger's fan's are not used to finishing next to the bottom of the league. The internet warrior's were not far wrong about the make up of the 2012 team. Joe being the exeption.

Hel'n'Back
To me, it's a strange idea at the possibility of moving race day to a Sunday. People have existing commitments at weekends, me included! This could be financial suicide...
ROAD CLOSED
i think it could be the best thing thats happend at sheffield speedway because they will get more fans from different areas, including manchester for sure!, a sunday is a day out for people!... i bet there is alot of people fed up at bell vue that would make the small journey over the hills to sheffield, to get the speedway fix instead of the sh*te they serve up every monday at bell vue!

Friddy75
Instead of guessing and speculating, why don't the promotion make a survey up and put it on the website for the fans to fill in. There's 1542 people like the website through Facebook. the majority will be Sheffield fans and a few just general speedway fans, they'd get an opinion from fans who go every week and ones that only come with there travelling teams. If they have us put what age group we're in they could find out what different age groups want, finding out why the 'younger ones' don't come. People could add there opinion what could be done to promote the club, what they'd like to see, what day they would prefere. They could have fans select there choice of team for next season, they don't have to follow it but it would give them an idea what riders the fans want to see and why. Seems a no brainer to me. And I'd expect it would add to the people following the site just by allowing the fans to be more involved, so extra promotion for the club. If they mention it as a post on here and mention it in the Sheffield star section I'm sure the website following would certainly grow.

MD
Strange how a certain team in Scotland is trying to move away from Sunday racing to improve crowds. Whoever new supporters the club attracts will surely be negated by the ones they may lose. Indeed, Glasgow are trying to move to Friday nights so that speedway is not competing with football on a Sunday and its traffic. By doing so it will allow fans to still see the speedway and have a free Sunday, as the 4pm start time wastes most of the day. Provided planning permission comes through it should be excellent, though you won't be able to please all of the people all of the time as obviously there are some that it won't suit. MWC
seems a great idea to have a vote, No matter what day or night it is someone is going to be upset. In Sat`s Star looks like Simon is wanting to join sheffield so is this why they are trying to change the night ????? Time will tell

psycho3a
I think Sunday would be ridiculous as people have family commitments, sporting activities etc, whereas a Thursday night is easier to swing .. I totally agree about the idea of a survey .. Ask the people who matter.. The supporters.. Like others before it was not the day that stopped people attending it was the ridiculous increase in prices especially kids and the shocking team that was constructed.. Leave on a Thursday and build a strong team with a out and out number 1 reduce the prices slightly and watch the crowds return on a Thursday... If its a Sunday 2 more deffo not coming we at workuington would like richard hall and ricky wells. I would gladly drive Richard hall to Workington to sign his contract if it meant he was not signing for Sheffield

Cue Ball
So.... 4 new riders and 3 to be retained (including Haines) with negotiations already underway. Its been said that given long track commitments it wouldn't be ideal to have both Hall and Franc in the same team, which would suggest one of them will be staying and given comments about Franc's attendance this year, you would guess that Hall would be the preferred choice. Wells has come out and said that he would like to do another year - so is that the 3?
