Sheffield 2013

Recommended Posts

Hi OdsalBoy, i'm fairly new too.

Just looking at your team above. I had Ricky Ashworth as my number 1 in my first choice team but i think he will be back at Berwick. Not sure what the situation is with Ben wilson but i doubt he will be back in the team after this years poor team and especially after a year out. I think Sanchez is a better rider.

I also think Skiddy, Hall and Haines will be back along with Wells if the rules don't change. Along with a new number 1, could be Stead after a few posts on Twitter. I'd love young James Sarjeant to be given a chance as it would be great to have a local Sheffield lad to support. We may even uncover a new jem once he's had a few meetings in the team, and he looked fantastic at the under 19s.

As far as the 'if they all click' i think we need to get away from this idea as it showed this season that it very rarely happens there's usually at least one that has an off night. I think we need a strong home team, like the few seasons before 2012. Aim to win all our home meetings and pick up points where we can away.

So your team was a 'what you expect next season team'. If you were building with 42.5 points limit who would you like to see in Tigers colours?

Neil machin needs to make a major announcement this winter in order to try and get the lost fans back and simon stead leading the side would certainly do that.

Simon Stead is a rider that would capture the imagination of the Sheffield Speedway fans, and kind of get the feeling that if its not Simon then we might see a rider of that reputation or standard joining the club.

I think that the club gambled last season releasing Ricky Ashworth, but one I think was necessary for both club and rider, I think Ricky had got a bit stale at Sheffield and the move has given his career a massive boost, the big problem is that he now probably wants to stay with the Bandits.

Will be interesting to see what the Promotion comes up with for next season, but the signing of Joe Haines is a decent start to the team building.

Hi and welcome odsalboy, regarding your choice of riders I would have Both Rickys, Joe and James. Hugh needs a change, Ben cant see him riding again and Richard PLEASE PLEASE NO , he`s fine at home but away lets us down big time

Couldnt agree more about Richard Hall... If he is announced i have said i am not going...

Good start with Joe..

Does anyone know what average Steady would come in on ??

Would like to Think it will be something like Steady, Pepe (If they can sort his foreign commitments out) Ricky Wells, Adam Roynon,,Joe Haines & Tom Perry Or Joe Jacobs

The above without steady and without any british reduction(not sure if this still applies) and using Tom Perry's average is 29.09 so gives us 13.44 to play with for Steady and last rider

Great to have Joe Haines back for 2013! If we could start him at reserve again would be a massive boost, especially if we have a new 3 point rider so Joe can cover if he's struggling. And it would free up more points for 3 genuine heat leaders.

With Joe's average just over 5 I don't think that we will see him riding at reserve next season especially if we are going to bring in three genuine heatleaders.

SHEFFIELD could be looking at a dramatic change of race night as they look to bounce back from a difficult season.

Club co-promoter David Hoggart has admitted the Premier League in general is struggling after a tough season at the turnstiles coupled with spiralling costs.

Tigers have been no different and Hoggart says the priority now has to be winning back the fans who stayed away after a combination of poor performances and the dreadful weather.

He said: “We may even look at the Thursday race night because we realise it may no longer be the best night for everyone.

“We want to encourage youngsters to come and support the Tigers every week and we have a meeting with our landlords very soon to discuss many aspects of the business.

“There are also a lot of Premier League riders who double up with Elite League clubs and Thursday night is busy in the Elite League. We are looking at keeping costs under control and that includes rider wages, so if we can look at avoiding clashes with Elite League dates it may help us in our talks.

“This is only something we are looking at and we may take it a stage further but it’s very early stages for us right now.

“We also noticed when Redcar opened on a Thursday we lost a hefty number of supporters from north of the M62, so a change of race night may just allow fans to go to both tracks.

“We’re open minded on everything.

“The Premier League has a major issue to deal with right now because it’s been a bad year financially for most clubs and now is the time to be proactive to try and change things, turn things around."

I'm grateful to Machin and Hoggy for the time and effort they put in to run Sheffield, but I honestly feel there losing the plot this year. I'd see it as they'd loose more fans if they changed the regular race night from Thursday. Surely they isn't much choice in this because of greyhound nights.

They want to bring in more young fans but put the price up for kids this season.

I feel all promoters need to get away from trying to get the old fans back and concentrate on getting fresh new fans through the turnstiles. Then when the atmosphere changes the old fans will return.

Or could they be thinking of striking up a deal with the stadium owners to switch race nights with the greyhounds on Tuesday.

No other Premier League track runs on a Tuesday so no fixture classes, and no Elite club rides on a Tuesday.

Also running on a Thursday clashes with Swindon, so running on a Tuesday would free up a Sheffield born rider to sign for the club and double up with Swindon.

Simon Stead appears to be the fans popular choice to lead the club next.

But then again new Workington Promoter Tony Mole is about to bring Simon back to Workington.

If Sheffield are wanting to encourage more youngsters, I would have thought either Friday or Saturday as no school the following day, but then that clashes with most of the Premier League race nights. I can't see Tuesday encouraging more people to attend either. Personally, I'd keep it on a Thursday.
