Sheffield 2013

Recommended Posts

I just don't like the way some people seem to be crowing about the fact that they boycotted Owlerton last year and are promising to do the same next season as this will somehow "show" the promoters.

It won't benefit anyone.

It will benefit the stayaway by having 15 quid plus refreshments in thier pocket every week that hasn't been wasted on another boring nights speedway !

Look at Somersets team ... then Sheffields projected team , says it all !

Why can they sign that quality of riders and Sheffield cant ?

Evidently they can, its only a couple of seasons since they finished 4th and 2nd tracking guys like Parker, Auty and Ashworth, the line between a good season, and a poor one is pretty fine in speedway, it isnt like football where you have an established order based on club size.

And the crowds were almost twice the size ... which tells me that if you bring in quality signings the people will come to watch them !

Got to agree with oilyrag, I'm not picking and choosing or considering going elsewhere to spite the promotion or because I haven't got my 'fantasy' team. I just want £15 worth of good speedway. And going off last season compared to what this season looks like I feel I'd rather spend my money either somewhere else or pick when entertaining riders will be visiting or keep the money on my pocket.

Twice the size of last season, but half the size of 10 years ago and a club that doesn’t sign quality riders anymore yet built a side of quality, and a team that produced some superb racing on a track that hasn’t produced good racing since Wilson?

I would have prefered a reply in English but ... you said a team of quality and named 3 riders !

Sean Wilson time about 800-1000

Shane Parker time with a poor racing track 500-600

Pepe Franc time with a poor track and team 300-400

What team do you support anyway WJM ? , cant be a Tiger if you are supporting this excuse for team building !

Berwick.

The side with Ashworth, Auty and Parker was a good side though yes?

That the crowds have tailed off from 10 years ago isn’t solely a Machin or Hoggy, or even Sheffield issue, it’s a problem for most tracks and it runs a lot deeper than that.

I have bought the Sheffield highlights from GRT the last 4 years (excellent and well worth buying IMO) and I have to say I have found the standard of racing and entertainment more often than not excellent, admittedly I haven’t watched last year’s yet, but I have it and will give it a watch when I get the time.

Guys like Hall, Auty, Parker, Ashworth even Skidmore had his moments when he is an entertaining rider.

I am not defending the side currently being built or last season’s effort, I am simply not as black and white on things as some there are always certain grey areas.

I am the same with Berwick, same with most things Speedway, its easy to state I want, this, that and the other, but looking at the bigger picture and understanding why things happen, and why clubs make certain decisions, or in some instances need to make certain decisions is a bit harder.

Well the signing of Hall does it for me.. I missed 50% of meetings last year which was more than I missed in the previous 12 years .. I really think this could be the end of Sheffield .. Some teams already have strengthened and they were top end of table last season.. I think we are weaker and will go backwards and win the wooded spoon by a comfortable margin .. We might win the odd home meeting but will certainly be very lucky to pick up more than half a dozen away points and will get some major embarrassing hammerings..

I think Mr Machin should take a good luck at were it all went wrong.. The addition of his Co Promoter

I don't think it now matters what day they run as I have lost all interest with the potential re/signing of Hall

I think your crowd estimates are a little on the low side, if they were only 300-400 last season, I dont think they would have seen the season out, let alone run in 2013.

I have never been a Fan Of Richard Hall and I dont think I ever will be. He is entertaining to watch I totally agree but like i said before that dosent win Meetings. What I would like to know is the following . Why after a number of chances and seeing no improvement are Neil and Hoggy even thinking of bringing him back next year ????? Myself i would rather give Ricky wells another chance . PLEASE PLEASE dont give Hall another chance. I went to every meeting last year but not sure about Next year I hope the team prove me wrong .

well thats it for this season as well, 5 riders signed who will all have lower averages at the end of the season than the begining.

the last two need to be the most inspired signings in the history of speedway to get any of last years missing supporters back, so no doubt the next two will be sanchez and then his argentinian mate so they can keep each other company, that should be the final nail.

If that comes true it will be by by from me too.

We get a number 1, and what do we do dont back him up with any quality rider's. May be Haynes, but he as moved up a level from last year, and he as got to do the buisness. Maybe the last two rider's will shock everybody. I hope.
