AD1974
I didn't go to a meeting at all last season - looking forward to bringing the young 'un down to a few this year but have lost touch with it all a bit so would be good to know what you regulars think to this side? Stead looks like a good addition at the top end and I guess Albin is a bit of a wild card for everyone - good to see them taking a chance on someone though. I suspect Richard Hall is the same rider as he was when I was coming down before - i.e. great entertainment at home but not much away? On the others... You all saw Haines last year - he looks good value to me on that average. Would you mostly expect him to raise his figure if he can stay injury free? What did anybody see of Koppe last season as I believe he rode some second halves? Who was he racing against in those, and I guess more importantly who was he beating/losing to? Any predictions on how he can do? What do we know about Knight? On the numbers alone he looks one hell of a risk - lowest of all the 3 pointers. Does anybody believe he can make big strides forwards this year or would you generally have preferred someone else? Why is James Sarjeant not riding PL - wouldn't he have been a more obvious shout on NL form? I know they've had chances and not taken them but Branford & Bekker averaged more in the NL, and I think would be on 3s - safer options surely although not sure you'd expect improvement from them? Given it looks like there will be points to play with once the 7th rider is confirmed would it be harsh to change the side and use the extra to boost the number 7 spot? Might not set the world alight but Charles Wright, Chris Mills, Lee Smart, Jerran Hart, Nicki Glanz or James Holder would certainly give them a stronger tail? On the hot topic of the last place in the side Wells looks to have the potential to do the job but will he convert his EL form to the PL this time? Why was Franc that bad that people are so against him - he did average more than Wells and would have the pressure of being top man lifted this season? What has happened to Magnus Karlsson & Jordan Frampton as both have gone well around Owlerton and fit the bill from what I remember of them from a few years ago? What can anyone tell me about the other names I have seen mentioned - North, Nedermark or Poole? On the averages the latter would leave room to add Justin Sedgmen (again I know nowt about him!) at the bottom end and looks a more all round team to support Stead who will hopefully be able to score well in every match... 1. Simon Stead 2. Joe Haines 3. Taylor Poole 4. Damien Koppe 5. Richard Hall 6. Facundo Albin 7. Justin Sedgmen Would love to hear what people think about it all - although as a warning to the internet whiners you get on any forum I don't really want to hear anybody moaning and groaning before a wheel has even been turned without properly justifying any opinion! Halifaxtiger
Good for you, I'm sure you'll be sorely missed by everyone. Actually you will at least potentially miss him a lot, and I mean a lot. It is quite clear that last season's disastrous losses were incurred largely as a result of the numbers that decided to stay away and that any who did continue to go need to keep going this season. The consequences of them not going are pretty obvious to everyone. You might regret that flippant remark, because its hardly likely to persuade him to go, is it ?

First bend on the picnic benches (although I am not sure which meeting yet). My advice is to listen to the more reasoned posters like Spinny and give the team a chance. My view is they don't look good on paper but that doesn't necessarily mean they won't look good on the track (whoever signs).
Shale Shaker
You might regret that flippant remark, because its hardly likely to persuade him to go, is it ? I'm just very tired of the same old statements -"If Hall signs, I'm not going" , "If Sanchez signs, I'm not going", "If Franc signs, I'm not going" It's really a very childish attitude to take in my view. If its how they feel, then these people have alredy made their minds up and there's not a lot to say to pursuade them to go.
bamber
I would give wells until the end of this week to make his mind up..he has a ride with wolves i dont think he is that bothered about sheffield..He has backed them up against the wall to try and find sponsors or a better pay deal..i would offer him whats on the table if he cant agree tell him to sling his hook..there are plenty of riders to pick from who "Want" to ride so give him the choice take it or leave it..still think he has outside influences advising him...rant over.com.. spin king
I would go come rain or shine, and even if they put out 7 Klaus Jakobsen's I love my speedway team and my speedway, but they don't have to convince me to come to meetings but I do worry that Sheffield speedway public will look a the team and maybe stay away. I just hope that we are not putting too much pressure on too many young lads, but I am starting to get really impatient for the season to get started and see what the team can do. As for the last rider I agree with Squall the two riders banging on the door are Poole and Nedermark, both are decent riders not too sure whether they are heatleader quality but could have the potential to make the break through. Of the 3 riders I would like to see the following take the last spot in this order. 1st Ricky Wells 2nd Taylor Poole 3rd Claes Nedermark Squall loving everything Scandinavian, would probably go for Nedermark, but I would rather go with Wells as I think that there is unfinished business with him and I think he could establish himself as a genuine heatleader.

I'd say its a perfectly reasonable position to take and indeed one that is taken by a significant number of speedway fans across the country. Clubs do have their hard core but there simply aren't enough of them to sustain the team. That means that others must be persuaded to part with their money, which means that the product must be sufficiently attractive for them to do so. If it isn't, then the promotion are as culpable for the consequences as any stay away fan. On your last point, you're probably right but it must be better to suggest that they give the team a try rather than telling them to sod off. Apparently he does have until the end of this week to make his mind up. Do you know who these 'outside influences' are that are advising him? What I can't understand is how the likes of Albin can come over from Argentina just to ride in the premier league. Is he going to be on more money than whats being offered to Wells? A rider on an assessed average getting a better deal than the supposed second heat leader! Is he bringing some kind of super sponsorship deal over with him, surely he can't have another job, or is his dad a rich man? Suppose he'll be living rent free at Grenoside! I very much doubt that Albin will be on more money that Ricky Wells. As far as I am aware Facu Albin will be based around the Berwick staying with a family up there who I beleive were originally going to look after him when he was earmarked for a place in the Berwick team. I suppose the difference between Facu and Ricky is they are at differing stages of their career and their demands will be different.
CardinalSin
I am starting to get really impatient for the season to get started and see what the team can do. Me too. The off season always seems to take forever but this year it seems to be dragging even more. Just need to get this month out of the way and get stuck in to February, then we can start to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

The point I was making, but obviously didn't high light, is that Albin is obviously on less than what Wells will be being offered and that Wells is already going to be earning with Wolves. I accept that they are both at different stages in their careers, but the cost of living over here is the same for both of them. Wells will probably earn a little more for riding for USA, if they can qualify for the World Cup again.

Point taken mate, I don't think that we will ever get to the bottom of what Sheffield have offered Ricky Wells, I suppose it all boils down to who you believe the rider or the Promotion. Could be that he is taking it to the limit to try and get more money out of the club, my guess is that he will put pen to paper by the end of the week because it will implications for him riding for Wolves. Deep down I thinm both Sheffield and Ricky Wells need each other, and think they will come together by end of the week.

Got to agree with you on that, and yes I would like to see him back at Owlerton. He has unfinished business in Sheffield and I'm sure if the tracks right, plus his set up from first race to last, there are more than a few 15 point maximums to be earnt! If you read this Ricky there are plenty at Sheffield would like to see you back giving it 100% - remember to smile a little more and look like you really are enjoying it! Do any of us really know what riders are offered, there are not many of us really. I do find it strange that Nedermark was given the rider of the season award for Newcastle in Speedway Star for last season but then is not offered a team place for the following season, does seem very strange. Hardly good p.r. ? Who ever signs lets hope we have a good season.

Maybe if he did that he'd get sponsors to make up whatever his shortfall is! Riders who look as though they enjoy themselves and inter act with supporters will always find a few quid going their way. churlish ones won't.
