spin king
Sheffield are looking to sign a number 1, so surely this can't be right? Kauko Nieminen Premier League average is 8.18 so would fit in as a number 1.
Cue Ball
Kauko Nieminen Premier League average is 8.18 so would fit in as a number 1. To my mind, to be an `out an out` number 1 which apparently we want to sign, you've got to have an average in excess of 9 at least. Its not that long ago that 8.18 would only have got you the 3rd heat leader spot in a team (in what was a much stronger league).

psycho3a
Speedway needs more rider like Hall, after all its the entertainment business and he is just that Entertainment at Home dreadful away, Most points for a win is away points.. The Premier league is mostly won on how teams fare away from home, we cant carry one track ponies any longer

The Premier league is mostly won on how teams fare away from home, we cant carry one track ponies any longer I suppose it depends on the make up of the team, if were to say get a erserve in that could score decent points away from Sheffield then it could be possible for Richard Hall to come back to the club.. But for me Ricky Wells offers more to the club than Richard in terms of points at home and away so for me Ricky Wells would be my own personal choice. spin king
Not exactly, entertaining your home fans is just and important and first base is winning at home I think after the season that we have just had the objective is for us to build a team that is going to challenge for honours or that looks like it will. I think there was a lot of people that looked at last seasons team and just did not fancy the teams chances and deep down that is why there was so many fans stayed away. To most Sheffield fans these day finishing as lowly as 8th is generally termed as a poor season, so to finish 2nd from bottom was a disaster, we generally expect to have a team that finishes in the top 5. Friddy75
What's the point winning 4 points away then loosing 3 points at home the next week? You should aim to win all your home meetings( home track advantage and entertain your fans ) then pick up the occasional away win against the lower teams. Look at the facts, Scunny this season. So Niemenen isn't a no 1 because he's an 8+ rider but Stead who hasn't even turned a wheel in the prem league yet is because he's 9+?? I think there's a lot of over expectation on how well Steads would do. I personally doubt he will retain a 9+ point average at the end of the season if he rode for Sheffield. tigerowl
Watching Ricky Wells made me a bit angry this year. Great when he wanted to be, awful when he wasn't in the mood. I really don't want to see him in Sheffield colours again, I just got the impression that he wasn't all that bothered and Wolves were his number 1 priority. Steady would be a fantastic number 1. It reminds me a bit of the Sean Wilson situation - no one remembers him from being a reserve at Belle Vue, they remember him from being a star at Sheffield, Steady would be the same and would attract some of the missing fans back to the terraces much more than Kauko Niemenen would - no disrespect to Kauko. And i hope they do just that as i feel its good for Scunny to have our nearest rivals up there at the top,if both Scunny and the Tigers are close to the top, means fans travel to both race tracks, away fans are lacking in Speedway, this year Scunnys coffers im sure suffered because Sheff were s h y t e,! Steady a no brainer really Shooey, Reg WIlson ,Valentine, Dougie and the Prawn at Pl level were in and out no 1s at there best very very good at Owlerton i think get Stead back they will challenge again, Haines i am chuffed has done well and will improve not all doom and gloom but the Tigers i think should be minimum top 4 every year. Cue Ball
So there are only four number one's in the PL Screen 9.18 Barker 9.83 Gjedde 9.22 & Doyle 9.17 Are you saying that they don't stand out as being the out and out best in the PL? They score well regardless of track or track conditions week in and week out and don't let you down, if you need to win a race they are the riders that you would want in your team to go out there and do it. I haven't said that Stead is the answer as Friddy seems to suggest, although he is a proven performer at PL level and think he would do the job of the above 4. If there is anybody else available I would possibly prefer them as it would probably mean that we get to retain our Thursday night racing. Friddy75
Cue ball I'm certainly not suggesting that Stead is the answer, in fact I'm pretty much the only poster on here who doesn't want Stead. Sorry for any confusion. Only thing I will say is how can Stead be a proven rider at prem level when he hasn't rode prem level for years. And I agree if we're changing to Sunday to accommodate him it could be suicide for the club. Suggesting Stead is definitely going to be an out and out no 1 because previous reterning riders did is....well.

Friddy believe me if Sheffield go to Sunday's Stead will be a in and out no 1 and they will have a chance this year they odviously never had a true no 1.Franc i don't know because of long track commitments whether he will stay hope so Hall and Haines i think could be a better year for the tigers.
