whowasthatberntpersson
Josh G and Nick Morris, didn't do them any harm going to Glasgow. Very true, but I don't think there was the interest in them at the time as there is in Fricke now...don't get me wrong Scotland is a great place to start a British career, i'm just surprised with this one.

Rory Schlein did ok starting in Scotland. Honestly edinburgh a club with titles in the bank good people like doc Bridget preparing the track a friend if fricke s in Sam Masters. Why would he choose Scotland. Obviously for some reason you believe scottish speedway to be inferior. I on the the other hand look at the reputation edinburgh and Glasgow have got developing young talent, winning titles and being well run clubs, why not choose Scotland. End of.., I don't think the poster was belittling Scotland or Scottish speedway . Like it or not we are still an outpost in speedway terms , Jim McMillan always said that his biggest regret was not moving south earlier in his career . Edinburgh will be a good place for him to start his speedway education , they've proved time and again that they're good at bringing young riders on , but he'd have been more in the spotlight based down south . Whether or not that is a good thing is debateable .

luluthetiger
Hardly surprised at the amazement of those who cannot believe a rider might prefer to join a northern club than one in the south -- amused, more than surprised. That old "north of Watford wilderness" attitude!  Rory Schlein, Cameron Woodward, Robert Ksiezak, Matty Wethers, Aaron Summers -- they all started with Edinburgh as young teenagers, and haven't done badly (Bobby K has been so unlucky with injuries, but back in the day commanded an £8K transfer fee when he left the club).  Max Fricke has been to Europe for at least the past two summers, and his closest advisers were probably George Taylor, Sean Courtney and Dick Barrie -- all from up north. He's stayed in the Berwick area while in the UK both previous trips. Regardless of final choice of club, I'd think he's likely to be best-suited if he stays in an area he's familiar with.  Also, might it be thought his visa and/or work permit could get a more-favourable consideration if lodged by Edinburgh?

I notice Dilger hasn't re-signed for Redcar, could he be an option? Sedgmen would also fit and could be worth a punt as a reserve, even though he may come with attitude! JakeDaniels
My concern is that we have of the current riders we have signed the only who will possibly improve on the average is James Wright. Joe Screen, James Grieves & Henning Bager will no doubt fluctuate around there current averages. No idea what Joe Jacobs will do I'm hoping he can at least achieve a 3.00 average. A decent season for Harley he could maybe hit 4-4.50. Â We have 5.30 left for final place and the general concensus is Charles Wright is the favourite, a tried and tested 4.00-4.50 reserve leaving us over a point below the points limit, but we really need a ready made second string because no matter if Harley could match this we need him dropping to reserve in his rookie season. I personally think Justin Sedgman is the ideal candidate for the job on a 4.99 average the rolling averages could possibly put Harley to reserve by the end of April. I know people question Sedgman's attitude but he seems to look up to Screeny as an idol, and he would end up partnering him in the team. Â I personally think with the collective experience of Sean Courtney, James Grieves & Joe Screen if they could get Justin Sedgman and James Wright back on the the rails we'll certainly push up the league a bit from certain wooden spoonists. I sincerely hope we are not about to sign another rookie Aussie, the only one worth the risk was Max Fricke. Â Incidentally though has it been confirmed that Harley is definitely getting a work permit? if he doesn't then we'd have 10.30 for 2 places..... Claes Nedermark & Charles Wright. piston197
Justin Sedgemen ??? occasionally wonderful, but mostly woeful, have a look at his Wasps effort 2 great openers and then drivel, and mostly riding with Jason doyle, can't see him riding with Joe Screen any different,we couldn't wait to get rid of him and bring back Mellgren, mind you a team at Newport consisting of 7 off sedgemen would be better than the flattened site that is there now.
