DW
It would be reassuring to learn from the promoters/directors/owners/team manager that Harley Horwood will be granted the required permission to start. Sheffield and Scunthorpe must have the same worries, as will any club landing Max Fricke. Before the promotion get more flack for not doing something yesterday and not telling us, thought I would paste one of the requirements for a work permit. Quite how O'malley got one last year is a mystery, would say most of the Aussies would fail under two of the requirements: "Endorsement of the applicant by the sport's governing body In order for a Certificate of Sponsorship to be issued in the Tier 2 Sports People Category, the sponsor will need to have an endorsement for the applicant from the appropriate governing body for his or her sport. The endorsement will confirm that: The player or coach is internationally established at the highest level The player or coach will make a significant contribution to the development of his or her sport at the highest level in the UK The post could not be filled by a suitable settled worker" so we have to wait on presumably the BSPA making recommendations, although I cant see any of them passing the first one and there are a few UK riders still without team spots!!! After last season and the O Malley situation and the no doubt embarrassment this caused i wouldn't be surprised if Fricke, Horwood,Douglas and Koppe were refused entry based on point's 2 & 3 above i think personally they will make thing's more difficult to gain entry from the commonwealth and shall be much more stringent in there vetting . I think Glasgow, Edinburgh,Scunthorpe & Sheffield shall be looking for alternatives.

Koppe is already here, he has stayed in the country and found employment as a car mechanic during the winter, so he is sorted.

It will be interesting to see how thing's pan out with the other three then don't think it will be as easy this year to get them in.

Think you will find that non sporting employment in the UK will have absolutely no bearing on a non EU rider being permitted to ride in the PL. If was that easy I'm sure all potential overseas recruits would be found other jobs as well, be it as mechanics, brain surgeons (which are obviously in short supply in Yorkshire ) or window cleaners ! Not been a legal eagle or having much knowledge about employment laws in this country I would not know that information. I am merely taking my information from the local press releases, where Damien has said that he did not plan to go back home for the winter and had found work as a mechanic in Wakefield. I just assumed that work permits/ visa's were the same for any kind of employment.
luluthetiger
Here's another name to throw into the mix: Joey Ringwood. You heard it here first!
freddyfivetoes
Might the fact that Max Fricke is named by Edinburgh, where the promoter might be thought by some (not me of course) to have a weeny bit of influence over BSPA rulings, help his case? And if Max gets the nod of BSPA approval, then surely so will Koppe, Horwood, Douglas and, er, Ringwood.
Heedthebaw
I've got to say I'm surprised at Max Fricke going to the Monarchs. If I was a Tigers fan I think I'd be a tad hacked off bearing in mind that your new team manager was in fact Max and his Dad's host last year in the UK and was acting as his agent touting him around the northern tracks and has now watched go to your nearest and dearest

msc1874
You have got to say that glasgows ultimate success Is going to be based on what James wright does. Screen and Grieves you know what you getting. If James wright hits done of that old form you never know how far Glasgow could go, if he doesn't then it may be a struggle. But with screen and grieves you've always got a decent base to build.

He said he was pleased with Harley Horwood with the fact that he didn't barter when the deal was put to him .
whowasthatberntpersson
Very surprised at Fricke's decision to head so far North. I'm sure he had other offers, and has gone against the advice of some keen observers no doubt. On the other hand i'm sure Horwood would have taken a huge chunck off any hand offering him a deal. Cant see what difference a few hundred miles makes when you're leaving home and travelling half way round the world!! Id say feeling welcome and trusting those you are dealing with would be most important along with the level of back up you feel you will receive.
