Glasgow 2013

So, are you saying -- confirming -- that Edinburgh was the club?

There was no "one club" that vetoed Glasgow's request to be allowed to change its race Day. Those for and against were given the opportunity to state their point of view and then it went to a vote. Although there was sympathy for Glasgow's request, a substantial majority voted for the race day to remain as it is. A bit boring, I know, but that's how it happened.

Gordon, I appreciate you probably can't be specific, can you enlighten the supporters on the general types of objections?

PS Thanks for spoiling my new signature ;)

Well, fair enough, Gordon. But at Firhill on Saturday, the audience was told it was because one club objected.

And this week's club newsletter says:

Dear Tigers fan

As you will now have heard, following an objection raised by another club at the recent BSPA Conference, we have suffered the deep disappointment of losing a vote which prevents us from switching race night to our desired Friday.

Mixed messages.......

Seems strange that there was a vote, I didn't think there could have been unless someone raised a concern, whether it was at the conference or a flea in someones ear before the conference. I'd definitely say Edinburgh had a right to object to it. Although if they did then they must have short memories, when Edinburgh moved to Powderhall they couldn't get a Saturday night so Glasgow allowed them to ride simultaneously with us on a Friday night for 8/9 years whilst we were racing at Blantyre 2 and we only moved because Billy King wanted dogs on a Friday night at Shawfield.

It's about time we stood up to people and didn't just accept things as done, new promotion haven't even had a bike on track and been shafted twice already. Karma eventually runs it's course though....

Would be interested to know when Edinburgh were having discussions whether to run in 2013 or take a year out, I wonder if Glasgow taking the Friday night priority away from them was high up the list of pros.

if a team wants to change race night or a new team coming in then the other teams in the league have a say in it thats the way its done

edinbrugh being there local track will be the obvious choice for the people looking to point the finger bas as said it could be other clubs that either run on a friday or the southern clubs looking to cover 3 away meetings close by as a mini tour and cut down on travel costs

Utter garbage honestly. Edinburgh running in 2013 was to do with fans and nothing to do with Glasgow. Fans put money in.

Edinburgh have not ran on a Saturday regularly since meadowbank. Honestly, if the club was edinburgh who voted for the status quo then so what.

Edinburgh need Glasgow. Glasgow need Edinburgh. People on this forum are ridiculously biased and bitter at times. Scotland needs to strong speedway clubs end of....

Agreed, though not sure JD was necessarily having a pop at Edinburgh...

The decision to run in 2013 had nothing to do with Glasgows potential of taking the Friday night superiority away from us. It was the fans that ensured the sport continues in the East together with a stubborn promotion, not wanting to let the sport die:)

I think I've also read that the promotion had no problems with Glasgow running on Friday's if it was their wish. Think the objections may have come from a little further south.

Well above is an unequivocal reply from someone who should certainly know, having actually been present at the BSPA Conference.

However it appears some "paranoids" on here would prefer to believe this unsubstantiated drivel instead and conclude it must be Edinburgh of course.

C'mon when are you going to let us know who we will be hammering this year :-)

Thats what i like positive thinking and talking about the respective teams i like your mis-placed confidence but there is nothing wrong with overhyping your team we have done it for years :t:
