Big Yin
This can't be the same 'New Holland' that sponsor Juventus FC, is it? Yes Deeks. Fiat agriculture bought Ford tractors before being bought by New Holland

bigeddiechek
Great deal that - I am sure - has taken a long time in putting together. Some of the speculative postings on here were ludicrous. Our club is run by strong businessmen: of course they were going to find an excellent new sponsor. Exceptionally well done

Teal
So do you guys reckon there will be any changes re: presentation this year? Thnk it was conclusive in comments that changes to the overall presentation of a meeting need to happen- but will they?? My money's on sh*t music, lack lustre commentary and an overall stagnant late 70's early 80's feel, hope I'm proved wrong but can't see it

Teal
I'm not wanting the latest hits either, but music to suit speedway racing, maybe I'm just being picky and should just be there to solely watch the speedway however its just the way of the world, the need to be entertained constantly! I compare it to really enjoying the wine in a certain Pub, however the atmosphere, music and all round feel of the place is depressing- wouldn't really draw in new punters - despite the good wine.

And THAT is EXACTLY why there are fewer and fewer people paying to attend each year. No bike parade, because "the fans want to see the riders" - huddled like refugees on the back of a pick up, presumably. it's not just at Berwick, but perhaps more noticeable there than most, given the huge strides in almost every other aspect involving the sport. Quite literally from the track to the lights, the team to the marketing everything has moved on hugely in the last few years - until 7pm on a Saturday, when it's 1973 all over again. Fans saying "just ignore him" simply haven't got a clue. All the initiatives & cut price deals in the world will do no good at all if the recipients don't come back & pay full price - and these are the people who'll take one look and run.
screm
Less of Dick Barrie, less laps from the tractors, push the meeting through, its not to much to ask.

emilali
Personally speaking I think Dick should go. The people who actually enjoy his presenting I believe are in the minority. Everything is looking very positive for a change for this season, just need to get rid of that prat now.
Teal
It's a shame because I actually think he's alright, but just not on a Saturday night at a speedway meeting...... Who knows huh, little under a month till we find out, have a feeling it will be starting out where it left off, but we can but dream
havenagotahope
Hard to say Dick didn't compare at the Bandits team announcment night so maybe with a bit of luck he is taking the hint. I am sure he is a mine of speedway knowledge but the way he delivers it is out of the Ark, there's a need for a fresh approach this year.

Many valid points raised in your post Backless, I have to say I agree with them all. I think the overall product and presentation has come on leaps and bounds over the past couple of years, but as you state, come 7pm there has been no move forward. Dick is without question a passionate and very knowledgeable speedway man. However, the entire presentation during his possession of the microphone is very outdated. I for one would much prefer a traditional parade with bikes out on the track. We can still see the riders before they put their helmets on for a couple of laps to get a feel for the circuit. This in turn would feed into the quality of the first few heats, as the riders would have a feel for track conditions and would be able to attack from the off as opposed to using the first heat to get a feel for conditions. The musical presentation leaves much to be desired, but this is a real difficult one to overcome. Finding a selection that caters for all who attend is a tricky task, though it could be said that we are nowhere near at the moment and improvements can certainly be made here. Workington have to be commended for the introduction of match races. Granted it is only for one meeting, but the additional interest in seeing their top guys taking on one of the Elite Leagues best riders is certainly appealing. Perhaps there is scope to see what we could implement on a similar level.
Robinh88
Dick wont be going anywhere he's a trusted companion of the promotion, he's keen about the club and lets be honest we'd babble on the mic every Saturday if the club weve always supported paid us to do so. The racing at Berwick is one dimensional we've got a similar shape of track as Exeter. If you like seeing solely bikes going fast with minimal passing, cool. But thats not Speedway too me anyways
