screm
That Berwick has been chosen to host the Ben Fund meeting suggests that the promotion are doing something right. You stick to spraffing on about toilet roll holders though…. Is Ben Fund meeting being given to Berwick is well deserved, obviously the air-fence helps, but it seems the fact that Berwick have been one of the best or the best for Ben Fund collections over the last few seasons. As things stand right now its about the only thing thats guaranteed for next season. Fromafar
Back in the late 1980s,a nice wee man called Eric Stead - grandfather of Simon - was the promoter down the road at Brough Park,Newcastle. 1987 wasnt a great year for the Diamonds, and a section of the Brough Park fans, sighting the glory days of Mauger,Olsen or the Owen brothers, were impatient for success. Although in these days there were no forums or Facebooks by which to vent their annoyance, there was still a great deal of public sniping and complaints from a small but vocal cluster of critics about Eric`s team building efforts prior to the `88 season. Supporters` meetings, fanzines (the forums of the day) and letters carried moans (behind his back of course) as he manfully laboured to service the demands of his garage in Sheffield ( a business which was funding his devotion to running speedway) alongside preparing to launch another season on the Fossway. One day in March, with the season nearly upon him,Eric was doing one of the many unsong treats which befall someone stuggling to run a speedway -- probably shivering in the speedway office (no mobile phones either, back then) while trying to persuade a rider to join the Diamonds at a reasonable rate of pay or even working down a hole at the track in the freezing rain, unblocking a drain or something. Whatever he was doing it wasnt fun,but it was something which was needed in order to move the club forward into the new season.Hard work, funded out of his own time, money and the love of his sport to allow the turnstiles to start clicking in a few weeks` time and give the loyal speedway-going Novocastrians their summer entertainment. At that point, just a couple of weeks before the season was to begin,he was informed of the latest attack on his efforts by some so-called "fans".Totally - unfair criticism which took no account of his problem in balancing the books, his physical drudgery or his stress.Such people, some perhaps with private agenda, had no real conception of what speedway promotion entailed, but just thought it was clever to put the boot in. Well,it had an effect alright. Eric Stead considered their words and walked away.He climbed out the drain,or closed the office door, and thought "sod it".He notified the league office that Newcastle would not be running that season and shut the operation down there and then.No speedway on Tyneside in 1988. Think about it. The above is taken from Barries`s notes last saturday, looks very much like its directed at fans, and especially fans on this forum, the media arent even mentioned once. I'm afraid that what hapens when you give Mr Barrie a column in the programme ,Soi Disant . Edited October 15, 2012 by Fromafar

That is not the article I was referring to. The ones who are constantly greeting about things should take heed though. I've never been involved in a sport where people who don't actually seem to enjoy it, pay to go and watch it? Even worse, so called fans that don't even go! Very, very dull people who clearly can't find anything as an alternative. So, it can't be that bad: can it?

The trouble is BIG ED these people who go and don't enjoy it are starting drop away at a rate of knots by the looks of things at every venue. When it’s a section in the programme in some ones name they aren’t hiding behind anyone……., its his opinions and his views, it even has his picture at the top of the page, just to make it obvious that it is his views. If you want to reply, or feel that your view is that important, here is a grand idea, go up to his face and make your point, or e-mail him. But naw, instead you will show how a:hypocritical you are and b that you have completely missed the point of his article by doing the exact thing that he is highlighting. BigRackBandit
Hopefully some folk that are travelling to Berwick make a day of it and go to the Berwick game, crowds aren't great there either - Berwick match, few pints in the black and gold, then go to the Ben Fund meeting, that's what I'll be doing The game has been moved to a 2pm start, presumably the Berwick promotion asked the Rangers and the SFL for this to allow more time to prepare the track? If so, good to see good relations between the two clubs, this wasn't always the case! Edited October 16, 2012 by DeeksYaMahaga
YAMYAMBANDIT
Good to see the Ben Fund coming to Berwick. I have supported this cause for years, it doesn't matter where it is held it is what it is for, that counts.. For the first time I will be able to go, it always clashed with work, until this year I always found someone to give my tickets to, next year I can use them myself. What they do for injured riders is fantastic, our own Adrian Rymel can testify to that. I have just returned from Czech with the lunatic fringe of Berwick Bandits fans, I think they all had a good time, as they all had The Skitters at some time or another. Caused by taking byThe Czech Medicine, which by the way we had to leave in Adrians car as for some reason they wouldn't let us bring any home on the plane. On that note Adrian sends his regards to all his friends in Berwick, as does Michal Makovsky. Also Fillip Sitera, Lubos Tomicek and Hynek Sticheur, would like to thank those fans they met in Berwick that helped them so much,

However there are at least a couple of regular posters on Berwick Forum pages who only seem to want Berwick to fall flat on face it would appear? Think I heard Berwick were in line for a top Under 21 Meeting in 2013? My news from the corridors of power were correct this time!
Normski
Let us as fans be positive that we will be running in the PL in 2013 what kind of team do we want to see out on track if the averages stay at 42.50 how would this team do. 1 Ricky Ashworth 8.84 2 Todd Kurtz 4.38 3 Kozza Smith 7.19 4 Robin Aspegen 6.40 5 Seb Alden 7.58 6 Alex Edberg 4.36 7 Nicki Barrett 3.75 Total 42.50 In a perfect world at the AGM the points limit would be put up to 45 so we could fit Bellego back in.
