Robinh88
You were never seriously going to make top 6 because of injuries and you sound like Aljack picking on either Doolan or Lanham as being responsible for Ipswich's failure to be top 6. There are always a combination of factors injuries, management picking wrong riders/tactics, and riders screwing up. My point was you said "minimal return" and i said silverware was delivered aided by Alden not forgeting Ashworth as well. Everyone says the 4's crap quite sure the other 12 wouldnt be complaining if they won it. Right, and we cleverly replaced Kozza with a No1 in Ricky Ashworth, ok yes we were weakened by Lee's injury but we strengthed up with Aspegren coming in for Alex. King, Tomicek, Jakobsson were and are not up to standard. So that's not injuries fault so we would have be stronger with a team of Seb, David , Lee, Filip, Kozza, Brentpn and Alex? I'm not saying its Seb Alden's fault that we have not made the Top 6, But his average has dropped and that fella is a fact while riding in a easier posistion in the side. I think he is "ability-wise" our best rider and while I think Ricky has done a tremendous job Alden is our best rider, he can gate and contrary to what people have written on here Seb is certainly not a gating tart by any stretch of the imagination. Comparing me to Aljack? aye cheers! Big Alden fan, he could score a maximum tonight and be a 9.00 rider next year, he's got it in his locker. I think we have not seen the same tenacious powerful rider that we had last year? But all at Berwick know when he's up for it he's probably the best in the League, not consistant enough and that is why I mentioned Ryan Fisher who maybe wont even get near the track record but he will average 9 points.
spin king
And he`s done that,Ashworth has been excellent this year and has given Berwick a genuine no1,Im sure Sheffield will offer a team place to Ashworth, they`d be crazy not to,but Im hoping Ashworth will return to Berwick next year. Not expecting Ricky Ashworth to be back at Sheffield next season to be honest. I think the move away from Sheffield was right for Sheffield and right for Ricky although I not too sure whether at the time he was actually thinking along those lines I think that he does now. He had start to go a bit stale at Sheffield, and I think the move has given him a new lease of life and I think it has given him more credibility that he deserved, I think that people are starting to realise that he is a better rider than what he has been credit for..

DSC67
Nicki Barrett is looking a good bet for one of the reserve spots next year , I'd like to see Micky Dyer along side him but I've a feeling his future will be elsewhere and it will probably be Alex Edberg that gets the nod it's a joke that a quality rider like ashworth hasn't been used by elite clubs to d/up ,there hell bent on finding/signing foriegners who cost a fortune when a brit who's superior/ cheaper and more reliable , near enough can't get a meeting in the elite my mind boggles Ricky's had a couple of chances in the E/L but for one reason or another it hasnt worked for him which is a real shame as I'm sure he will be evey bit as good as " Bengt Muddigaurd " or some other rider from forgien shores who does nothing for the sport apart from put a strain on club resources and only turns up when they feel like it .

Agree Barrett and Dyer would solve reserve problem for next season. Both could improve IMO which is what you need.
Pinny
Alden the best in PL when up for it? Lol! You can say that for most heatleaders in all honesty but the top PL rider doesnt thrownin 3's and 4's on a regular basis. Hes a good rider but an inconsistent one... A 9.00 average is something he will never acheive and for anyone to chose him over Fisher would be crazy. So what if Fisher has had a few scuffles with Berwick riders in years gone by, didnt Ashworth punch Makovsky (who was no angel himself by a long way) from his bike a few years ago at Berwick?? Now hes the best thing since sliced bread!! Feel Berwick may of been a bit hasty purchasing Aldens contract, may of been better to review his form at the end of this season before making a decision. Ashworth, Aspegren, Bellego, Alden, Barrett, Kozza and Edberg would be a decent side should it fit under the 42.5 limit (assuming it stays) for 2013 . Wouldnt bother with Complin purely because he doesnt cut it away from home, and if reports that the rider Albin has already signed up on 5.00 are true then thats total lunacy imo. Cant help thinking Edberg is a bit over rated either, as many have posted he has a low average for a reason, the figures dont lie.

I think you will be right, but the shouldnt stop Machin and co at least offering some sort of terms to Ashworth, just on the principle of if you dont ask you dont get. After that of course and once his name has been circulated for a loan then you can bet there wont be just Berwick looking at a rider like Ashworth. I wouldnt be bothering with Complin either for the very reasons you give, though Id be amazed if he isnt in the team for next season, some supporters see to be blind to the fact we need to pick up points away from home. Agree with you on Albin, theres only our centre green presenter come talent spotter keen on the idea, there are better alternatives.
alang
If we run in the Premier league i think it might be along the lines of 1.Ricky Ashworth 2.Facundo Albin 3.Kozza Smith/Lee Complin 4.David Bellego 5.Seb Alden 6.Alex Edberg 7.Nikki Barrett Might not be what everyone wants but might be what we get. If it's National League Liam Carr,Jade Mudgway,Jade's wee brother,+4 others from somewhere. Might not be what everyone wants but might be what we get!! If we can't afford to run at all Crap Saturday night telly. Might not be what everyone wants but Mr Anderson is making a few realisic comments in the programme re crowds/finances. tweedcider
Better than no speedway at all. History shows that there are a band of fans who will turn out to support any Bandit team, regardless of which league they are in. As long as they pay their money, and buy food, does it matter which league the team is in?

If at all possible Id like Berwick to remain PL,though if it were a choice between NL speedway and no speedway, thens theres no choice really is there.I hope the promotion can confine this season to the history books and start afresh next March, but its easy for me to say that,Im not the one having to put my hand in my pocket to cover any losses. tweedcider
Naturally PL is first choice, but clubs can only lose so much. Berwick is not alone in making losses this season - a combination of the weather, and a reduction in many peoples available spending money. Playing Devils Advocate- what is the answer? To pay riders less? Are there any overheads than can be trimmed further?(I would imagine not). Stoke dropped down this season - I don't know how they have done, I feel there are probably 4 or 5 teams for whom dropping down is a very real possibility this winter. Where will riders come from? As a nation we have no infrastructure to bring on young talent (especially in the North), but NL could not afford foreign imports. The Albin signing was a good idea at the time, any chance to increase your asset base is normally a good chance, but things have changed. We have brought in Barrett & Dyer, both of whom need to be considered before Albin, like I said earlier there are better alternatives than Albin,to sign Albin after the season we have had would be a massive mistake IMO,but if Barrie`s said he`s signed then that might be that. Worth noting though that Berwick are struggling even with a £10 entrance, something you advocate for every club on another thread.
