How Many Teams

Forgive the possible ignorance on all that goes on in the NL but one of the things that seems to affect the riders/clubs is the lack of meetings (and I mean not just due to the weather) and track time and this will get worse if you have fewer tracks operating. Therefore would it be possible to have the league meetings, the KO cup meetings and a NL British Championship where every track gets to hold one or two rounds of these individual events. Those who find it difficult to operate a league club could be given 'open licences' which use to exist years back so that they could just hold the ocassional individual meeting. And it is probably a no for most speedway followers but why not have mixed meetings with speedway and short track if that is what it takes to keep the various marginal tracks operating until better times come along. Why does it just have to be speedway, why not festivals of speed with other two wheeled motor bikes who could race on shale. Afterall, what stops short track riders formimg teams as well to run alongside the speedway.

While the EL and PL do what they do, it is the grass roots level where perhaps they could make a stand and with a mix of disciplines and show what an evening of two wheeled entertainment could be about.

I certainly think there are some interesting ideas put forward in this posting...

I'm not sure that more ind. meetings is what the lads need they need to develop their team skills. Most riders in the NL are trying to shine to get themselves noticed for a spot in in the PL and who can blame them they seem to have be 10 times better than a junior foreign rider to get a chance. You get lots of incidents like team mates taking each other out. Team mates pushing each other out when in scoring positions. Slowing the race down to get a team member through is another skill that is lacking in the NL. I'll always remember seeing Armstrong at Dudley using all these skills to get him and a team mate through to a much needed 5 -1 he had a well planned race he knew exactley when to make his move by getting everybody in the right place on the track These are the kinds of skills they need to develop to make it in the higher leagues but your idea of combining disciplines is a briliant idea as that seems to be the way the stock cars are going by running bangers (I think) at the same time therefore attracting supporters from both disciplines although I'm not sure the Stock car fans are overly keen on banger racing. Does the track have to be prepared differently for flat track short track etc????

Stockcar meetings do have a number of formulas on the same day but the F1s bring in the bigger crowds. As for shorttrack/flattrack we don't do anything different to the track when they race at Buxton and would presume it is the same elsewhere. The only problem I can see with mixing other disciplines in speedway is the crossover between ACU and SCB and the insurance situation but I guess if the will is there these can be overcome. Stockcar meetings seem to still attract the fans maybe its because they put on more of a show and it is more of a day out than just a couple of hours at speedway so the spectators feel that it is better value for money as the price structure for a F1 meeting is similar to EL.

Thanks Jayne.
