RedcarRacer
As if morale amongst Redcar fans was not bad enough, Brian Havelock announces the worse field ever for the Silver Helmet - what an absolute load of dross! I have seen Jason Crump, Tai Woffinden, Peter Karlsson, Freddie Lindgren, Peter Kildemand fighting for this in recent years, now we have this - oh dear... LINE-UP Mason Campton (Glasgow Tigers), Max Dilger (Redcar Bears), Kevin Doolan (Redcar Bears), Josh Grajczonek (Glasgow Tigers), Richard Hall (Sheffield Tigers), Damien Koppe (Australia), Matej Kus (Redcar Bears), Ulrich Ostergaard (Redcar Bears), Aaron Summers (Redcar Bears), Michael Palm Toft (Scunthorpe Scorpions), Andrew Tully (Edinburgh Monarchs), Carl Wilkinson (Redcar Bears). StevePark
MPT is a busy lad that night, isnt he down to ride in the Ipo v Newcastle meeting??? That's certainly what George English told me when I interviewed him for the Newcastle vs Plymouth DVD! Wouldn't be the first time a rider is announced to ride in an individual meeting at Redcar and not even been asked!
Backless
According to the Speedway Star he's also issued an invitation to Joe Screen, who may well be big mates with Havvy Jnr, but evidently not enough to ride for what Havvy Snr will be prepared to pay, and Sebastian Alden who at the time of printing wasn't due to be in the country since the Sunday before. It could be that the invited field may well prove to be the strongest field yet - well done the consortium.

pvm
"There will be 12 riders who race 12 qualifying heats before two semi-finals for the top eight scorers and then the four-man Grand Final for the Silver Helmet. SILVER HELMET : Sponsored by Costcutters Supermarket of Eston" So it's not even the traditional 16 rider 20 heat's format. Well I suppose it ties in with the sponsors. Backless
This morning's Speedway Star reckons Kevin Doolan to be one of the favourites for the Silver Helmet tonight in a field with other bears and "the likes of 2006 winner Richard Hall, James Grieves, Joe Screen, Andrew Tully and Seb Alden" Well, that should help pull the crowds in: "the likes of"..... so that'll be someone the same height as Grieves, the same build as Screen & someone with blonde hair like Alden? I still believe that, with a bit more effort this could have been the highest quality field ever (advertised).... maybe even the highest quality field (invited). Maybe that's the way forward for the consortium: if only they have fould someone the same build as Chris Holder, an old pair of kevlars & a helmet... Yearbyred
Maybe it should be billed as "Stars in Their Eyes" Silver helmet. "Tonight Matthew Im going to be................................................ at home".
