Plymouth 2013

Recommended Posts

There is a report in the local paper today where Ashley Taylor says that progress on signing one of the remaining riders is progressing well, but the club is still considering what they are going to do about the vacant reserve place, i'm glad to hear that, because the club needs a rider with PL experience to fill that gap, the rider everyone was talking about taking that place would be taking a big risk for the club, he needs to prove himself in the NL for me, and riding at heat leader in that league, the club will not be getting a world beater for the points left, but i feel they need to get a rider that at least has some PL rides behind him, Glanz would do for me, not the best rider around but for the points we have left he is.

This report in the local paper is different to the one quoted above, i'm losing the will to live, i'm behind any rider the club signs, but i wish one person from the club would deal with the Herald, because you get a different story in every report they put in the paper, and in my opinion the paper's not helping the club by doing that.

Total condradiction to what Trigger said at the new Supporters club neeting last night!

He said he was concentrating the getting the number 2 race jacket sorted first before seeing what points were left for the reserve!

Last night was,imo,a shambles.

Before the new committee were formally installed, the guy who is now the Chairman addressed the gathering without introducing himself.Others may know who he is,but quite a few didnt.I still dont.

The way the whole evening was handled left me with no doubt at all.

I wont be joining the Supporters club.

Blind leading the blind springs to mind.

Lastly,I sincerely hope that the 50/50 draw is exactly that.Unlike under Bowdens tenure, where he wanted his cut, which is one of the reasons the Supporters club folded.

The first thing the club needs to do is to appoint a press officer, then when a story goes into the paper, it don't contradict the one before, for at start i'm not impressed with the reporter for the Herald whoever he or she is for not quoting the previous report and questioning what was said by Ashley, but then the club has never been helped by the paper from the word go, when you see good reporters they will question previous coments if they are different from the one being offered, thats good reporting to me in my opinion.

Like you i will be staying clear of the supporters club, i was warned when the club first started to stay away from the supporters club, i will support the riders by buying 50/50 raffle tickets, but will find out first that 50% of the money will be going to them, i trust Carol and if she says that the money will be going to the riders, then thats good enuff for me.

Ben Reade is just not the answer I'm afraid! The boy isnt even a heat leader at NL I would think he needs at least a season at that level before even being considered for the PL

Paul Starke is your man. 100% trier and picks up useful Points too. :approve: :approve:

let me put a few things staright. Thee new chairman did introduce himself and spoke at length about the many organisations he is involved in, whether anyone else wanted to be chairman and even told us how ill he is! The agenda was followed re election of officers and the committee, all of which had stated their interest before the meeting commenced. We even have people who have come forward regarding the running of the track shop and these are experienced speedway people with the expertise and many contacts re merchandise etc. Another person has come forward and wants to be responsible for the running of the junior section of devils supporters and this will be ll discussed at our first committee meeting next week. The 50/50 draw will be run by us again as we did in the first 5 years with a definite 50/50 split as it was before. The only reason we stopped doing this was because the promoter wanted a cut and we weren't prepared to sell the tickets on that basis. It is not compulsory to join the supporters club, but pelase don't post negative comments on here because we are all doing our best and we know we have a mountain to climb and if you thought we were dong things wrong why didn't you speak up at the actual meeting when Bernard asked for any questions and also said anyone who has any queries please address him and he will try and answer them We will carry on and do our best for the riders which is after all what the supporters club is all about

A fantastic post from 'Devilforever' of which explains exactly how the night went & where the supporters club stand.

For those who are not willing to join the supporters club, it is your own decision & must be respected however I do not feel you need to come on a public forum & slate it especially as you obviously do not know what hard work has been put in already to get the supporters club back up & running!

The supporters club has been taken over by hard working trustworthy VOLUNTEERS, who I for one will be supporting as much as I can.

I wish the supporters club all my best wishes for the future of which I am sure will be very successful.

He did NOT introduce himself at the start of the meeting.

When it came to voting, someone from the floor asked for his name. I didnt hear as he didnt have the mic to his mouth, and others around me were talking.

I didnt raise any issues on the night simply because the whole thing was poorly presented and found it rather embarassing.

Ive since found out that the new Charman is the very same person who laid into the previous committee for wanting to disband the supporters club, because of Bowdens interference.Long before he tried to find out the facts behind the decision.Left with lots of egg on his face to boot!

I would have thought the best way forward would have been for one of the new consortium to be present. For him/her to explain what was happening and why. After introducing Bernard,he/she would then take a back seat and allow everyone else to then make any decisions.

Not an encouraging start as far as Im concerned. The sooner the club appoint someone to handle these things professionally, the better.

Like you lewy i'm all for the supporters club if they help the riders, and the best way to do that is with the 50/50 draw, even like me you don't want to join, you can still help the riders.

Are you talking about the bloke who serves the TEA Opinionated? Charman - interesting concept - it MAY catch on.

I may be a bit thick - but - what is someone with a POOLE 'Pirates' Avatar doing on a PLYMOUTH 'Devils' Thread slagging off Plymouth Supporters and their Supporter's Club.:nono:

Why don't you go on the Poole Thread and slag off their Supporter - seems MUCH more sensible to me. :approve:

Not that there is anything wrong with Poole Supporters - apart from ONE I can think of.

Starke or Reade are for me much of a muchness. Paul hasn't had the best of times over the past 2 seasons in the NL however he is a rider I've always liked and a 100% trier who is back on the right road and improving again as the Newcastle fans saw last season. Ben had a brilliant here last year putting nearly 5 points on his average in the NL and is also a grafter who never gives up. Both would be decent 3 pointers in my opinion.

The key is who goes at 2 as ideally we need someone who can maintain a reasonable average so we can keep Todd at reserve for as long as possible. If we can do that then we could well do well in 2013.

Is Graham Hambly not the Press Officer?

The only decent report on the club is in the Sunday Independent by him, so you could be right Mike, but i don't no what the score is with the Evening paper, you get a report one day, then the next day you get a different one from the day before, seems someone in the herald needs to do there job.

Mike i agree with you about the situation with the rider that goes at 2, if Todd does well at reserve and moves up we need a good rider at 2 if he does have to move to reserve, i think the rider at 2 is a crucial rider for the club to get, i have no problem if the club brings in Ben Reade or any 3 point rider, but they need to use the points left to find a half decent rider for the 2 position, if they do get a rider on a 5.5 average and he don't at least keep that average we will be in trouble if Todd moves up, but like you say Mike keeping Todd at reserve would be ideal, but it's all down to who the club gets for the final position in the main body of the team, and if he can keep his average he comes in on.

As usual, spot on :approve: . Reade's average is somewhat inflated given that he spent most of the NL season at reserve but the scale of his improvement from 2011 was astounding. I also seem to recall him bringing the house down (against Workington, I think) with a late win that kept the Devils in the match. I thought Starke was disapponting when I saw him ride for Isle Of Wight last season, he's better than that. Given the choice, I'd go for Reade.

Is Glanz still an option ?

Im Devon born n bred! Plymstock, fyi.

The Poole avatar shows that even one of the Countries top clubs can get it wrong. This photo is of a banner outside the Stadium advertising the next meeting in 2011. Note the spelling of 'Belle Vue'! It was removed as soon as it was pointed out to the Management.Oh,and I know BobC from Poole,a good friend.

This forum is for expressing honest opinions. Some you like, some you dont. Thats life,Im afraid.

I am all for the club to be successful. Including the Supporters club. I simply think everyone could and should have gone about things in better manner, rather than the disjointed efforts so far.

Just my opinion of course. If thats all right with you?

Thank you for the explanation. :)

Perhaps you would care to enlighten me about where I am DISHONEST in the opinions that I Post on this Forum. I may be mistaken sometimes, but I don't believe that I am ever intentionally dishonest.

I would be interested to know.

You and I are BOTH entitled to our opinions - I have no problems with that. :)

I have closed the old Plymouth devils facebook speedway page and opened a brand new one, the old one was one where u added us as a friend, but this had a 5000 friend limit and we reached that pretty quick, with many people asking me why they are not being accepted. So I have set up a page this time where you click on the page and then click "like" this is unlimited to how many people can like it so much better and easier to follow. Please like the page and follow the devils on facebook.

Well he'd be 3.69 so my guess is yes he is. That said I'm told he's quite expensive and for that reason he probably won't be the man to fill the reserve slot. I'd put money on it being Reade.

The interesting thing is that there seems to be work permit issues with whoever we are looking at for the main body role meaning we may be looking at someone else now instead. One of the guys on the Plymouth forum brought up Hawkins' name and I tend to think he could end up being our number 2 which I'd be quite underwhelmed with as I don't really rate him. It's just such a shame Boxall can't sort himself out as on 5.69 and Reade/Starke on a 3.00 we'd be looking decent!

I am told that Hawkins couldnt agree terms elsewhere with what is considered one of the better paying teams -one that would also have been much closer to his base.

So it doesnt seem he would be a cheap option.
