secsy1
Hope that this news doesnt effect any deliberations with future planning. Sorry to hear about it as have visited on several occasions prior to the speedway and always a great day out. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-19535750
21st century heathen
It's a shame but I fail to see any link with speedway in the area. Significantly less visitors can almost certainly be attributed mostly, if not entirely, to the very wet Spring and Summer.

Well if you read the article where it states 'Impossible situation' From next year the museum will also lose a £70,000 a year grant from Dudley Council. The council made the decision to withdraw funding in March because it needs to save £13m from its own budget. So if Dudley Heathens `were` looking for any type funding through the Council towards a Stadium it looks like the budget could affect them? 21st century heathen
To the best of my knowledge no funding has ever been sought, nor would it be. That said I don't have any insider knowledge, just what we (the fans) have been told over the years. The Council representatives said from the off that the Council would back speedway as long it didn't cost them anything. Easy to scoff now but to be fair the then Council did turn down the initial planning applications for Barratts to build houses on the Dudley Wood Road site. The problem has not been funding as such but rather finding land the Council consider suitable and then jumping through the variety of hoops that appear just as you think you're on to a winner. villiers210
Absolutely spot on, and that is exactly what is making the whole situation heart breaking. Dudley / Cradley have never sought one penny piece from local government, it would be a self funding proposition without my cost whatsoever to the council tax payers. Money is not an issue - getting the council to find us somewhere is.
greyhoundp
getting the council to find us somewhere is. They have never tried to find us anywhere, nor even attempted to, indeed many feel they have put obstacles in the way, and only ever given lip service to us at best. In my Opinion, there are only 1 or 2 possible vacant locations in Dudley Borough suitable for hosting Speedway, and at least one of those doesnt want the land used for Speedway, but prefers future Industrial use, again in my humble Opinion we would be better looking outside of Dudley for a possible location, because any time spent searching or talking in/to Dudley is wasted time, which when i last spoke with Nigel Pearson he said they were awaiting a meeting with Dudley Council, yes Dudley may eventually speak, but that is all they will do, and even that "is in there own time" and with little hope or prospect of anything new, except for the usual "Dudley Council support the return of The Heathens, at a location suitable for Speedway" which has been the case ever since the demise of Dudley Wood.
