Dudley Heathens V Isle Of Wight Islanders 04.09.12 N L

Recommended Posts

Yet again, some of the posters on here manage to get just about everything wrong. From Birks guest appearance being questioned as illegal, through to even no updates and quoting that ther aren't any supporters capable of texting. Well on that score I should learn to read if I were you son, they were there for everyone to see. They are listed under the National league, and then If you are familiar with the alphabet, look under D for Dudley.

This might help

At the time of the posting, they were no Updates, as an updater hadn't come forward at the time.

In fact, if you actually took time to look at when the thread was created, that would be obvious.

I would have thought that with having riders like Perry, Morris, Becker etc in the team and riding at home against a team not likely to make the play offs it would have been an opportunity to use rider replacement on this occasion which in turn would have provided more income for other Heathens riders.

More style Greyhoundp?? You lot certainly have no class man! Read heathhen1's moronic post above.

Can't wait for ya to defend it!!

Just to reiterate what others have said - It's was in jest (though as an in-joke I wish I spotted it so I could have posted to clarify earlier). Dan actually quoted it on his Facebook page yesterday with a "haha", and part of my opening post too. Dan has pretty much daily banter with the Heathens (and others I'm sure) fans through his Facebook page. He gets a lot a stick for his steel shoe problems (which came up again last night as he was 'worried' about it happening again :D) and the fact that he posts more 'selfies' than a teenage girl. :D Top bloke and well liked by the Heathens faithful.

He seemed a bit down after last night and very quickly had lots of support.

You should be a spin doctor in politics ! Looks like your worries were unfounded as the heathens edged past their play off rivals without their number 1.No doubt the Heathens posse lapped it up as usual.

I wasn't worried and of course we were huge favourites, which I stated. But last season we had some dreadful results, even at home, when we were huge favourites. They just had to guard against complacency and make sure the points were secured. Everyone involved has done a good job of making sure our riders stay fully focussed and do not take their foot off the gas.

Of course the fans enjoyed it. We were without a team for a very long time and are enjoying seeing the very rare sight of a group of riders all clicking and improving in the same season. It's an absolute pleasure to see in particular what Tom, Ash, Dan and Darryl have achieved this season. It's such a shame that some are so blinded by their petty sniping that they can't take a moment to acknowledge these young lads.

I would just like to say that I hope the man who suffered a fall pre-meeting injuring his head, is doing ok !!

Furthermore I would like to add that I was very impressed by the visitng Paul Starke this evening, he was very sharp from the tapes and impressive when taking the lead, he was unfortunate to suffer problems when he was on a tactical ride for double points also, and his race with Tom Perry prvided first class entertainment for the crowd.

Also an appreciative mention to Isle Of Wight fans travelling to support their team, and I hope they had a safe journey back

Porky announced at the end of the meeting that he was okay other than a cut to the head.

Starke and Warwick did well at times and forced the Heathens riders to work very hard, especially early on in the meeting. Unfortunately they weren't able to reproduce their generally good starts in the latter heats so the entertainment tailed off for the last few races. Starke in particular rode with his head as much as his throttle and knew exactly where to put the back wheel to block numerous attempted moves by Tom and Ash a couple of times, though ultimately beaten all-but once.

I would have thought that with having riders like Perry, Morris, Becker etc in the team and riding at home against a team not likely to make the play offs it would have been an opportunity to use rider replacement on this occasion which in turn would have provided more income for other Heathens riders.

It was a tricky one. I can understand the management's point of view. IOW and 3rd in the league and they wanted to show respect to them as being a pretty decent team. Also, how many times do you hear fans moan about not having a full 7-man team out on track? I can also see the view that it would have been a chance for our riders (4 at least) to get an extra ride). It was a bit of a no-win.

---------------------------------------

There was some decent to very good action at times. I would say off the top of my head that at least half the races saw a visiting rider make a good start and a Heathen have to make an early move (first corner or on the first lap) to hit the front. A few races were very good value with three races involving Starke standing out. A quick mention for Darryl who recorded his second successive maximum and for Dan who rode very well indeed and was disappointed not to get the nod for heat 15. It shows just how far he's come in a year since his return to the sport. I was very pleased to see James pick up some good points and look better last night. Well done all.

Iow are third in the table so how have they not

Got

Much chance of playoffs?

Ok so they are in with an outside chance but if those teams competing for 4th place all win at home and lose away from now on they will not finish up in a play off place. I think Dudley, Mildenhall & Stoke will be in to leave just one place available.

i personally can see scunthorpe getting into the play offs, they have 2 meetings left v rye house home and away, which are both winnable, whilst the iow have got to go to kings lynn which can be tricky, therefore my money is on scunthorpe to scrape into play offs.

I understand there may be an issue with getting the Lynn/Wight fixture run before the cut-off in any event.

Going back to the guest, I would regard it as part courtesy to the play-off chasing visitors and part insurance when so near to fulfilling the aim of finishing top of the NL. Imagine the home outcry if someone had got hurt or had a torrid night mechanically and the match had been lost. So many potential pitfalls with RR.

After my response to some negative comments, let me comment on the meeting, first all of the Heathens riders rode well, very impressed in particular by Tom Perry, Dan Greenwood, and Daryl Ritchings, Dan has shown recently he is coming to terms with his elevation to the main body of the Team, Daryl seems to have got some speed into his bikes, never doubted his ability, either one or both of these last two should have been in the nominated riders heat, Tom & Ash dont/didnt need the extra rides, and The Heathens didnt really need a 5-1 heat win, and it would have been a fine gesture by the management. For the Islanders Danny Warwick was competitive in most of his rides, but the rider who impressed me most was Paul Starke, fast from the gate, and rode good lines to hold back the Heathens who were all behind him at various times, and what a steal for 2013 on his current average  , Oh and final word to Ashley Birks, another unbeaten guest appearance for the Table Toppers, thanks Ash.

Yes good job you had a top guest as insurance against the play off chasing visitors.Dudley have been vulnerable at home this season.
