CardinalSin
Lanham could indeed be at Rye next year, but he may well be one of the 5 he has signed and not as the number 1 he is still looking for.
bolly
Len has said recently and announced to all in attendance at the end of year presentation that the team will be based around the four, 21 and under aged riders (Nelson, Garrity, Mellgren and Kasper Lykke. Then Bunyan has virtually stated outright that he has signed for next year. Lanham cannot by any stretch of the imagination be classed as a young rider, so therefore if he joins Rockets next year it can be assumed that he will be as No. 1 or reserve ? He is not my idea of a top No.1, but he is experienced and is not a spectacular prima dona ??? Maybe in as second or third heat leader but not No.1 please Len. Lanham struggled at number 1 at Ipswich. I reckon you can write off Doolan, doesn't fancy the travelling.
Arch Stanton
I reckon you can write off Doolan, doesn't fancy the travelling. Doesn't make an awful lot of sense considering he's been travelling to Ipswich for a couple of years, and was quoted in the Ipswich Star a few weeks back saying that he still harboured hopes of returning to Ipswich next season. Sheffield to Rye would actually cut his journey slightly by about half hour!

He's often been quoted as loving the Rye track, so can't see why he wouldn't contemplate it, unless his services aren't required?

Possibly, but I've got to admit the description of the rider your promoter is quoted as looking for, sounds exactly like Doolan/Lanham. iand
Perhaps len is looking at using Morley/Sargent as 3pt reserve. Would leave us 2.5 / 3pts spare for Bowen to drop back in when he is fit. Crazy thought really or is it?

As mentioned many times before on this forum, Luke is not going to be anywhere near riding until August/September once his pins in his leg are removed. On top of that, I understand he has settled into a regular job outside speedway. I'm sure Rachel would prefer to see him choose another career with his accident history. So count him out of 2013. Ben91
Perhaps Len knows Nelson isn't coming back and has signed Nielsen, Garrity, Bunyan and Mellgren as well as a heatleader leaving us needing a number one and a reserve, no necessarily a 3 pointer? If we do go down the 3 pointer route who would the fans want to see? I reckon Sarjeant is the best option realistically, he can mix it gone and away and I reckon with regular meetings he could even put a little on his three point figure. I think the stand out 3 pointer is Stefan Nielsen but he'll probably be at Scunny or Ipswich. Who knows maybe Rambo Lambo will be back... JT
There are three Elite League Swedes who could fit the bill as new Rye No.1. Kim Nilsson (average - 9.08, age at the start of 2013 season - 23), Daniel Nermark (average - 8.95, age - 35) and Thomas H Jonasson (average - 8.83, age 24). Nilsson is one of those riders who seems to up his game against top riders and always looked a better rider in the Elite League for Lakeside, than in the PL for Newport. Whether that was a lack of interest in the PL, I don't know, but the Lakeside/Rye connection and his friendship with Mellgren could make him the ideal candidate. I also think he's a much more savvy rider now, than he was for Newport in 2011. The following side would be pretty potent in my opinion; 1. Kim Nilsson 9.08 2. Jason Bunyan 5.14 3. Anders Mellgren 6.47 4. Tyson Nelson 5.33 5. Kevin Doolan 7.29 6. Kasper Nielsen 4.28 7. Jason Garrity 4.79 Total; 42.38 JT. msc1874
Kevin Doolan would be great for any team. Still a top performer. In demand this winter
Ben91
Mellgren, Bunyan, Nelson, Garrity and Nielsen confirmed on Herts Mercury website, subject to Nelson's visa naturally In talks with a few potential number ones too, be interesting to see who we end up with. lionking
If those 5 reported in the herts paper are correct then the 6th rider is Simon Lambert . Just a no1 needed now another typical len side good at home & with potential away rather then an all round solid look. bolly
How do you know its Simon Lambert ? Documentation ? Proof or heresay ? As much as he improved at the end of last year, I dont think he is going to improve much on his starting average and on some days looks decidedly wobbly around Rye. If its him because we have a superstar No.1 and his average fits, maybe, but otherwise I am sure there are better prospects out there. lionking
It is fact His mechanic told me last night that Simon has signed for Rye House
Cockney Rebel
According to today's Speedway Star Simon said Rye House would be his first choice by a long way even though everybody's speculating a return to Sheffield. he also says riding at a smaller track will help bring him on as a rider. Think he did quite well after he settled in, a lot better than some people expected (that inludes me)
Ben91
If it is Simon Lambert at reserve we can have anyone up to a 7.20 EL average, Eddie Kennett returns perhaps?
Rteyp
Personally, I like the look of this side. Lambert was very poor in his first few outings and you wondered why Len has bothered - wobbly was a good description . He was much improved by the end of the season and produced some exciting racing and impressive scores.... so happy to have him back at reserve. A big No1 would be the icing on the cake. A 7.2 EL average should open some doors, but who will Len pick ?
