Warning: if you are planning on bringing your own food and drink into the stadium make sure you stuff it in your pocket. Security are searching bags and not letting any food in (not searching pockets though) this includes baby food and those who have allergies.

This is NOT a Sheffield Speedway decision, Neil Machin appears very unhappy at the number of upset fans. Flask of tea or coffee is allowed...logic doesn't prevail!!

Been raining since the parade with no sign of it stopping. Not seen a race for nearly an hour. Either get them out there or call it off

Bloody joke. This is the first time it's happened at Sheffield and with no advanced warning. They ain't getting a penny off me after I've entered the stadium

Have to agree with those comments, and you have to wonder why they insisted on a parade that was long drawn affair when they could see that the rain was coming down.

Really feel for those fans who made very long journeys down for the meeting, surely they should be some way that they can get their money back, as not everyone will be able to attend the re run.

Today I think we saw another nail in the coffin for the sport in this country.

Have to say I didn't think what happened was too bad or deserving of serious criticism. Yes, they could have got on with the racing a bit quicker but we'd still have had an abandonment and its easy to be wise in hindsight about the raining not stopping. If it had there would have been complaints about an unnecessary postponement.

Couldn't do right for doing wrong, I'd say.

The only criticism I'd make is about the terms of refund. I can appreciate no cash, but why can't fans simply go to one meeting anywhere in the country ? Much better than the re-run (which apparently is at Swindon) or nothing.

Big thanks to Spinny for organising the drinking session - even if he did take an unnecessary degree of sadistic pleasure in making me pay up our bet.

Same amount & terms again next season, mate ?

Can only echo some of the comments so far.

Bag search for food -is that really needed in these hard economic times, absolutely disgusting. Only imposed to ensure paying punters have to pay even more for inflated food and drinks inside the stadium. Thought programme at £4 was good value compared with £10 rip off at Cardiff.

Public Address system was poor and could hardly make out what Shaun was saying-not his fault as could not hear Rob Godfrey either! :D

Why have a long drawn out parade on too few bikes when all weather reports was for imminent rain?

Why was it riders had already packed up and back at their vans before public was told meeting was finally rained off?

Why were there so few Sheffield fans attending this meeting ,it seemed more like a home meeting for the hoards of Scunny fans present?

What was the announcement about re run or 2013 events for this rain off?

Can't blame the rain for everything, just seemed Joe Public got shafted again

Any weather updates?. Kinda in two minds at the mo whether to bother or not.

Wish I hadn't bothered, my fault, should've of let my head rule my heart....£20 petrol, 1 x adult £20, 2x kids £10, £4 prog, £2 car park....£56 for 4 heats and not much chance of us being able to attend a re-staging. Oh well, thats the life of a speedway supporter....we give, they take!

On the bright side...Josh n Nick get another chance after a dodgy first ride :-)

The announcement about re-admission was basically this:

- Write to BSPA and you can get a refund

- Tickets will get you in to any BSPA shared event this year or next. Can be used for re-staging or ELRC at Swindon (That's the event at Swindon someone mentioned, re-staging isn't at Swindon!)

Only problem I had was that we were left waiting an hour for it to be officially called off when it was clear looking at the sky the rain wasn't going to stop and even if it did the track was a complete mess.

On a positive, first time at Sheffield and very impressed with the facilities.

Can't believe they didn't have air fences though!

Just arrived back in Preston and I dont hold anybody to blame for this , just one of those things , they give it 5 minutes and if ( and ok it was never an if ) it cleared up after an hour they get slaughtered , give it an hr and the slim slim chance of a clear up and the criticism comes , agree that the riders where clearly aware prior to the official cancellation that it was off but who can blame them for wanting to get packed away , the weather beat us but for my first time to Sheffield it wont be the last , enjoyed the carvery , got me Rico race jacket , met a few decent fans just wasnt to be , oh well Match of the Day on Tele it is .... :( , the real loser today is the Sport but us Speedway fans always come back for more just in less numbers buts thats another topic !

Pretty much ditto, Albert.

The question I'd like to ask everyone who attended today is this:

If Sheffield had put out an announcement at 9 am this morning that the start time today had been brought forward to 3 pm (instead of 5pm) would they have been prevented from attending ?

Most people have access to the internet these days, and I would think that any speedway fans that don't would have friends that do and who could've passed on the information.

For the last 24 hrs it was pretty clear that the later this meeting started the greater the chance of a rain-off.

Was there a practical reason that my suggeted course of action would have been impossible?

For all that, I tossed a coin at 3pm and set out from Grimsby in hope rather than expectation and can only blame myself for the wasted trip.

Speedway, it's a mug's game

Left it as late as possible to get from essex got there last minute parked up down the road went to go in and was told i couldnt come in as i had a cheese sandwich in my bag, what do you do? Annoyed because of the time i hadnt eaten it on the way. Slung it the paid up having been assured by the bspa site that weather was due later. Sixty quid on petrol and another twenty four for entry and programme and treated like an animal. Always my favourite meeting of the season since it was first run donkeys years ago. Sadly it will be my last, sorry sheffield speedway but it seems the owners of the stadium have cost you my future visits to the place.

I believe once something has been officially advertised as starting at a particular time, then legally you can't bring it forward at such short notice.
