Main Man
MDL : The top of the table clash between Long Eaton and Coventry-Mercia turned out to be a rushed and truncated affair after long delays in the preceding Premier League clash between Leicester and Rye House. As it was the Vikings were forced into two late team changes with new signing Darryl Ritchings having to pull out of his debut after encountering motor problems that left him without a suitable engine to use. 15 year old Max Clegg , who rides for Belle Vue in the MDL, stepped but had a troubled night with a fall in his second ride. Tyler Govier’s problems encountered in the home match on the Wednesday were compounded by travel troubles and Conor Dwyer stepped in for him. On track the Vikings just didn’t trouble the home side with two falls for Cam Hoskins, one for Clegg and bike troubles for Dwyer and Knuckey hitting their scoring power. The rushed meeting came to an abrupt halt when Conner Coles crashed and Cam Hoskins had to lay his bike down to avoid him hurting his wrist in the process. The red lights were displayed by ref Jim Lawrence along with the blue exclusion light but the race was neither re-run or awarded with the referee seemingly deciding enough was enough and closed the meeting and went home! The problems encountered by the youngsters , who travel long distances (Martin Knuckey comes from deep in Cornwall) for track time and receive no remuneration either for travel or points money , must be addressed. Vikings co-team boss Laurence Rogers wonders if the whole set up needs looking at , “ I do not know the answer but having been involved in the sport for a long time and run hundred and hundreds of meetings I have some ideas. Lakeside run theirs before the main meeting starting earlier than normal but some tracks may not be willing to do this. I did suggest to Leicester’s clerk of the course that instead of waiting for the Premier League riders to get ready for their celebratory laps that they run the first two junior races then when there are two rides on the trot then do the winning celebration.” “Another idea which may not receive universal agreement is to do a heat after races 4, 8 , 12 and 14 in the main meeting leaving two to fit in after ….I don’t know what the answer is but for the future of young British riders coming through clearly something has to be done.!” Long Eaton 17 : Oliver Greenwood 3,3=6, Connor Coles 2*,3=5+1, Lee Geary© 3,1=4, Liam Rumsey F,2*=2+1 Mercia 7: Max Clegg 1,0=1, Cameron Hoskins 0,0=0, Martin Knuckey 1*,1=2+1, Conor Dwyer 2,2=4 H1: Greenwood, Coles, Clegg, Hoskins 5-1/5-1 68.54 H2(Awd): Geary, Dwyer, Knuckey, Rumsey (f,x) 3-3/8-4 NO TIME H3(Awd): Greenwood, Rumsey, Knuckey, Hoskins (f,x) 5-1 / 13-5 NO TIME H4: Coles, Dwyer, Geary, Clegg(f,rem) 4-2 / 17-7 68.90 Edited August 12, 2012 by Main Man

Skodaman
Thanks Bomber , and by the way did you make the same suggestions at YOUR home track when the Godiva trophy was cancelled ? . as you say you have been involved in speedway for long time .so you should know well that promoters view any form of second half racing as an inconvenience and as such don't particularly like being told how they should run their meetings , Long Eaton have a very good relationship with the promotion at Leicester and would very much like it to stay that way . For once I agree with you!! Most of the hold ups during the PL meeting were unavoidable especially when Gjedde was taken from the track in the ambulance. Perhaps some of the ideas from Main Man should be brought up at the pre season meeting for the Development Leagues and hopefully something positive will come out of it. Riders in the DL need track time to improve. There are so many complaints about dearth of British riders coming through; lets help them!!
